Winemaker's Notes:

Our Gewürztraminer is crafted from Washington grapes. The fruit from these two regions possesses different yet complimentary characteristics, producing a balanced, more expressive and complex wine. We often put the juice and the grape skins in contact to extract and unleash the exquisite Gewürztraminer aromas locked in the skin. The juice is then cold temperature fermented over 20 days. We do not use any oak and do not put the wine through malolactic fermentation.

The wine is crisp with a slight residual sugar of 1.7% with flavors of lychee, melon and tangerine. Our Gewürztraminer is an exceptional match with spicy Indian food, lemon chicken and blue cheeses.

A lively rich ruby hue announces an equally appealing complexity in the bouquet, which has the classic essences of red berries, complemented by delicate nuances of oak and licorice. On the palate this wine is warm, and ample; showing a well integrated balance of tannins and acidity, a great structure and a long persistent finish. This Brunello reveals great elegance.

Succulent raspberry, plum and black cherry fruit aromas and hints of brown spice and forest floor announce this delicious Pinot Noir, perhaps our best ever. Complex, round and mouthfilling, the wine glides onto the palate displaying pure black cherry and ripe berry flavors, and the long aftertaste is rich yet fresh and agile.

Delicious with seared Ahi tuna, duck breast with cherry compote, lamb chops, wild mushroom risotto, roast chicken or grilled salmon. Try Manchego or Fontina for the cheese course. Seasoning affinities include orange peel, shaved fennel and dried berries.

Winemaker's Notes:

Long inspired by the wines of the Southern Rhone Valley, this is our an- swer to a Washington version of a Cotes-du-Rhone Villages wine. Ripe and hedonistic, this wine displays vivid ruby color with varying degrees of purple black. Aromatics lean towards cherries, pomegranate and black- berry with layers of exotic spices. Nuances of licorice, pepper, and pro- vincial herbs mingle with the fruit. Flavors closely mimic aromatics with a broad expansive texture. This is sausages or country cheeses.

About Syncline:

James and Poppie Mantone craft highly sought after Rhône varietal wines. Syncline wines have great depth of character and show a sense of singular identity and connection to the land.

Winemaker's Notes:

80% Zinfandel, 19% Petite Sirah, 1% Carignne.

Maybe it's that we found our early inspiration for Zinfandel from a different source — instead of reinventing Zinfandel, we looked to the past and the incredible Zins of the '40s and '50s. Those wines taught us the lessons that the old-timers knew: that field blends of Petite Sirah, Carignane, and Napa Gamay all picked at ripeness (not as raisins) added color, aromatics, and earthy complexity. In other words, the help of other varietals was needed to reveal the Zinfandel grape's true flavors. These principles form the foundation for our wine today.

In the centuries-old tradition of the "field blend" the 2008 Frog's Leap Zinfandel reveals the great character and multi-layered nuances of its almost forgotten varietals. The Zinfandel offers lush layers of wild raspberry and mulberry underscored with a touch of cinnamon and white pepper. The 'Pets' deepen the rich dark color, add a weighty mid-palate and strengthen the flavors of blueberry and spice while that dash of Carignane helps to drive the finish. The tannins are polished and the texture is plush. With an alcohol level under 14% this wine is rich yet quaffable and is the perfect partner for your next barbeque.

Additional wines from Frog's Leap:

About Frog's Leap:

Frog's Leap is an iconic California winery dedicated to organic farming, sustainable living and quality wines. Situated in the Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley, Frog’s Leap produces wine under the leadership of John Williams, a former dairy farmer from New York who created the winery in 1981.

John Williams grew up in Western New York and originally attended Cornell University to extend his studies as a dairyman. A fortuitous work-study program at Taylor Wine Company and a few bottles of wine later, John entered the Enology and Viticulture Masters Program at UC Davis. Following Davis, he returned to the Finger Lakes as the start-up winemaker at Glenora Wine Cellars. Taking inspiration from his first Napa Valley winemaking post in the cellars of Stag's Leap, John began making wine commercially in 1981 and named the new operation "Frog's Leap."

Frog's Leap presents a relaxed approach to enjoying wine. An easy hospitality and warm sense of humor is juxtaposed with a more serious sensibility when making wine. Frog's Leap produces some of Napa Valley's finest wines and, undoubtedly, has one of the wine world's best mottos: "Time's Fun When You're Having Flies."

The wines produced range from Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. We have quite the line up to offer so we hope you’ll try one of these delicious wines that harmoniously combine quality, sustainability and value.

First certified by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) in 1988 Frog's Leap has been a leader in the industry for over two decades. The winery relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and control pests on a farm. Organic farming excludes the use of manufactured fertilizers and pesticides, plant growth regulators and genetically modified organisms. Organic farming involves mechanical weed control (via cultivating or hoeing) rather than herbicidal weed control.

Winemaker's Notes:

Filled with fragrant notes of rich black berry and traces of cocoa powder, the 2008 Frog's Leap Merlot exhibits a cascading flavor profile of ripened red berries and cherry accentuated by delicate notes of mocha, herbs and spice. The famed 'Rutherford Dust,' in which the grapes were grown, generates a mouth-feel and finish that is long and lovely all wrapped in plush, soft tannins. With such a diverse set of flavors and bright acidity this wine can be paired with a wide range of food from lamb stew to chocolate soufflé.

In Vierlas, 10 miles upriver from Cascante and just into the region of Aragón, One hundred and thirty acres of vineyard located on a unique quaternary gravel deposit called La Lombana was acquired in its entirety through dozens of individual transactions during the late 1990s. Taking full advantage of La Lombana's complex vineyard composition. Spicy, refreshing, intense and long in finish - a seriously FUN red wine for frequent consumption. Unique, complex blend of 45% Merlot, 30% Syrah, 18% Tempranillo and 7% Graciano.
My Notes:

About Bodegas Guelbenzu:

In 1851, the Guelbenzu family of Cascante presented wine, olive oil and wheat at the First Universal Exposition in London's Prince Albert Pavilion (Paris 1855 being the second such world's fair). Don Miguel Guelbenzu had graduated in chemistry from the Sorbonne in Paris, and he returned home with the latest techniques in contemporary winemaking. Quality was the aim from the inception, and Gold Medals awarded the family's wines at the Exposition Universelle Bordeaux 1882, Navarra Exposition 1882 and Barcelona 1888. After Don Miguel, commercialization of wine under the family name declined. Don Miguel's great-grandchildren, eight siblings pooling their resources at that time, initiated renovation of the vineyards and winery in 1980. 1989 was the first vintage from the re-launched family vineyard estate.

98 acres of vines planted in 1980 to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 30% Tempranillo, dispersed in numerous small plots encircling Cascante in the Queiles River Valley. The 7,600-foot Sierra del Moncayo rises just 20 miles to the south, its late-melting snows providing adequate moisture in the sub soils to withstand summer droughts. The vineyards lie between 1200 and 1800 feet, ripening the grapes in stages for an unhurried and perfectly timed harvest.

The modern winery maintains Don Miguel's original gravity-flow design from 1851, and is a gem of space utilization. Stainless fermentation tanks were inserted through the roof of building formerly devoted to olive oil production, while custom-made 10,000-litre Aillers oak uprights (for assemblage) fill the original cellar. Barriques are of various French oak types in which Guelbenzu's aged reds spend one full year prior to bottling, racked four times. The enologist, Yoseba Altuna, is a French educated native of Navarra with experience in a top Bordeaux Chateaux.
