Winemaker's Notes:

Casillero del Diablo Reserva Carmenere is a deep, dark purple wine with aromas of dark plum, chocolate and hints of coffee and toasty oak. On the palate, there are notes of dark plums and spice, generously framed by toasty American oak with a soft and well-structured mouth-filling texture.

Enjoy Casillero del Diablo Carmenere with meats, ripe cheese and pasta.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2010 Guenoc North Coast Victorian Claret is a complex blend of our award winning wines. Dark ruby in color, the wine has a wonderful fruity nose bringing on black cherry, plum, and blueberry aromas. Rich and soft on the palate, the hints of vanilla and nutmeg, from ageing in 50% American and French Oak, add to the complexity and the long smooth finish.

The wine pairs well with any meat dish or just on its own.

Blend: 59% Merlot, 18% Syrah, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, 2% Cabernet Franc

Additional wines from Guenoc Estate Vineyards:

About Guenoc Estate Vineyards:

Located 90 miles north of San Francisco, the 23,000 acre Guenoc Estate, claiming some of the oldest vineyards in California, includes the most northwestern area of Napa Valley, all of Guenoc Valley, and the southern extremes of Lake County. From 1888 to 1906 the Guenoc Estate was owned by internationally famous actress and vintner Lillie Langtry, who vowed to make "claret of the finest kind known in the country" in her California valley and placed her portrait on her estate produced bottles of wine. Today, the George Watts' portrait of Lillie Langtry has become the famous cameo trademark of Guenoc wines. In 1981, Guenoc Valley was recognized by the federal government as a separate and distinctive viticultural area, the first appellation under single-proprietorship in the United States. Traditional winemaking techniques and utilization of the best of French oak and highest quality stainless steel equipment allow winemaker Malcolm Seibly to create wines which continue to garner championship awards in both national and international competitions.

Winemaker's Notes:

Meet the twins: a masterstroke of varietal blending from Chile's winemaking legend, Aurelio Montes. On their own, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon shine, but when paired up, these two classic varieties complement each other perfectly. It's a sensational double bill: wonderful richness, structure and fruit from the Cabernet, with smooth, velvety texture from the Malbec. These varieties add up to a wine that's greater than the sum of its parts, while the oak aging contributes with subtle notes of vanilla and liqueur, and its soft tannins provide an especially elegant finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Montes:

About Montes:

With the release of the first Montes Alpha wine back in 1988, Montes became one of the first premium wineries of Chile. Their premise, a clear belief that Chile had an untapped potential as a producer of quality wines, made them a benchmark for other wineries to follow. Its original four partners' total involvement and the continuous help of the angels that decorate their labels was key to their success. Two decades later, Montes is the fifth most important winery of Chile where Aurelio Montes continues leading the winemaking area with the same passion as the first day. Hard work and total focus on quality has led Montes to be one of the most successful and respected quality-driven wineries in Chile as they continue pioneering and breaking new grounds in wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

Appreciating the luscious nature of the Merlot grape, Parducci selects individually-vinified small lots of premium varietal Merlot grapes to blend a wine of lush, charming character and supple flavors.

This Merlot has rich flavors of black cherries and plums followed by a tea-leaf spiciness adding savor and zest. This dry red is a fine match for herbroasted chicken with plum sauce, grilled beef on arugula or smoky chili.

Blend: 91% Merlot, 8% Syrah, 1% Petite Verdot

My Notes:

Additional wines from Parducci:

About Parducci:

Sixteen year-old Adolph Parducci arrived in Northern California with his parents in 1912. The new immigrant family settled in Mendocino County an area that resembled their native Tuscany. Even today, the geography and climate of Mendocino County are similar to Northern Italy. The County's hillside vineyards provide plenty of exposure to ripen hearty red grape varieties, while deep river valleys with good drainage support flavor-packed white grapes. Adolph purchased his first vineyard in 1921, just one-year after Prohibition. To survive, Parducci created a market for his grapes with home winemakers from as far away as New York. Adolph and his four sons built their full-scale winery in 1932 on the site of their original Home Ranch just above the Ukiah Valley.

In 1944, Parducci produced one of the first varietal bottling of California Zinfandel. This wine signaled the arrival of California as a premium winegrowing area and of Parducci Wine Cellars as the producer of quality wines. Two years later, we made the first varietal bottling of California Petite Sirah and today we are still the largest producer of Petite Sirah with just over 20,000 cases.

Parducci is "Family Farmed," locally owned and operated in California's Mendocino County. We are committed to sustainable winegrowing practices that yield top quality grapes and wines while protecting the environment and supporting our community and local farmers.

The color and flavors in this wine remind you of fresh, sweet purple plums – velvety layers of flavor are full and lasting-typical of an Argentine Malbec.

Any red meat, especially cooked outdoors, is a perfect partner.

My Notes:

About Piattelli:

To understand our essence is to understand that Piattelli first and foremost is a unique and special place—the soil, the water, the air, and the climate—the terroir. Out of this place has evolved a people, a culture and a passion for wine. From that people, a select few have joined to form a team of specialists who are defined by our shared values and commitment to the truth and beauty that can only be found in our estate-level winemaking process. From our shared vision a respect for traditional winemaking techniques and appreciation for contemporary flavors have fused. Finally, Piattelli must be understood to be a story with a beautiful history, a bright future and a strong legacy.

So what is the essence of Piattelli Vineyards? Perhaps most keenly it can be described as the quite, heartfelt invitation we extend to each and every wine consumer to come and share in the various dimensions of our identity by enjoying the beautiful experience of drinking our wines, which are easy to drink yet delightfully expressive.

Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby color, with violet shade. Intense nose, fresh red fruits at first, then black fruits at the ventilation with light liquorice aromas. Fresh in the mouth, round and fond of red fruits. Good volume, silky tannins beautiful textures and length on cassis and cherry notes.

40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, 10% Carignan

My Notes:

About Les Deux Rives:

The "deux rives" in Les Deux Rives wine refers to the two banks of the Canal du Midi (much like the Left Bank in Paris is called the Rive Gauche), and the label is inspired by a 1920s postcard of the Canal.

Built adjacent to Corbières in the late 1600s, the Canal connected the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, and was one of the most important routes for transporting wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon to northern France, greater Europe and beyond.

Winemaker's Notes:

100% Sauvignon Blanc (61% Awatere Valley, 39% Wairau Valley).

Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw in color. The nose has stone fruit, citrus and fresh tropical notes that eap from the glass. The palate is expressive with stone fruit, citrus and fresh tropical flavors that linger on through the crisp finish.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Dashwood:

About Dashwood:

The Dashwood brand was developed by Vavasour Wines in 1989. Given the commitment to using the Vavasour brand for wines true to the Awatere Valley, it provided flexibility within the company's portfolio to have the Dashwood range as a blend of fruit from Marlborough's Wairau and Awatere Valleys.

Dashwood wines bring the luscious, clean fruit characters of the Wairau Valley into harmony with the flinty, or mineral, characters of the Awatere (resulting from the comparatively cooler but drier temperatures and slightly less fertile soils). Created by long-standing winemaker, Glenn Thomas, who joined Vavasour in 1988, Dashwood wines are made in an earlier drinking style than those carrying the Vavasour brand and are considered outstanding value for money by wine buyers across the globe.

Ferreira Esteva 2010
(search item no. 117453)

PRICE ON 12/19/2014: $8.97

Winemaker's Notes:

Esteva has a very bright red ruby hue. Its bouquet is dominated by ripe red fruit (red currant and raspberry), as well as by a slight violet floral component. Its complexity arises both from the careful selection of blends from Douro recommended vine varieties and from its evolution in the bottle. It is well-balanced, a result of the softness of Tinta Barroca, the full-body and lingering of Touriga Franca and the elegance and tannins of Tinta Roriz.
My Notes:

About Ferreira:

For more than 250 years, Ferreira has been synonymous with high-quality Portuguese wine, and known around the world as "the Portuguese brand." Ferreira was founded in 1751, and under the direction of Dona Antónia Adelaide became the reference point for exceptional ports and Douro wines. Today, Ferreira continues to be a global market leader, and the symbol of a country and a culture.
