Winemaker's Notes:

Roederer Estate Brut, the first California sparkling wine produced by Champagne Louis Roederer, builds upon a 200-year tradition of fine winemaking that has made Roederer champagne among the most sought-after in the world.

Roederer's winemaking style is based on two elements: ownership of its own vineyards and the addition of oak-aged reserve wines to each year's blend or cuvee. All the grapes for the Anderson Valley wines are grown on the Estate.

Each year, the winemaker selects a portion of the best wines for aging in Center of France oak casks. Aged from one to three years, wines from this reserve cellar are added to the blend, creating a multi-vintage cuvee in the traditional Roederer style, known for its body, finesse and depth of flavor.

The Roederer Estate Brut debuted in October 1988, and has since established its reputation as one of California's premier sparklers, remaining true to the heritage of excellence and style of its French forebears.

About Roederer Estate:

The crisp, fresh and rich flavors of Roederer Estate sparkling wines reflect the cool, fog-shrouded Anderson Valley that is home to their family-owned estate's 600 acres of vineyards. This protected valley in Northern California provides the ideal ripening conditions for their 100% estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Founded in 1982, Roederer Estate adds oak-aged reserve wines to all their blends to create complex, dry and harmonious sparkling wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Rich and intensely flavored wine. Classic fruit aromas of talcum, crushed stone and limes, with a hint of overlaying dried herb. The palate shows great length and depth with lemons and limes. The wine finishes with a soft but fresh natural acidity which balances the flavor intensity and a minerality that will reward medium to long-term cellaring.

Additional wines from Pewsey Vale:

About Pewsey Vale:

Pewsey Vale Vineyard was first planted to Riesling by Joseph Gilbert in 1847. The site was later purchased by well known grazier Geoff Angas-Parsons whom in 1961 invited his friend Wyndham Hill Smith to jointly develop the historic vineyard site. They believed the site could produce "delicate Rieslings in the Germanic style".

With an altitude varying between 485 metres and 500 metres, Pewsey Vale sits 250 metres above the Barossa Valley floor. The cooler temperatures found at this height encourage a longer ripening period which extends well into autumn. This longer ripening period is essential for producing superior quality grapes with exceptional flavour and character - hallmarks of Pewsey Vale wines. Block to block variation enables winemakers to select from separate parcels of fruit to tailor wines to the Pewsey Vale style, ensuring consistency from vintage to vintage.

This wine shows a light ruby red color and nuances of deep pink, moderate transparency. The nose reveals intense, clean and pleasing aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, almond, blackberry, peach, plum and rose. In the mouth it has good correspondence to the nose, a pleasing crisp attack however well balanced by alcohol, intense flavors, agreeable. The finish is persistent with flavors of raspberry, strawberry and peach.
My Notes:

About Cataldi Madonna:

Cultivation of the vine and production of wine have very ancient origins in Abruzzi and it is likely that it was the Etruscans to introduce the vine in this region. The Greeks were probably the first to praise its qualities and soon after, they were followed by the Romans. Abruzzi is mostly mountains; to the west there are Apennines, of which Gran Sasso and Maiella are the most important and to the east the region meets the Adriatic sea. It is in the province of L'Aquila, at the feet of the southern side of Gran Sasso, where the Luigi Cataldi Madonna winery is located. The winery was established in 1920 and in 1968 began a modernization process started by Antonio Cataldi Madonna, who worked to plant new vineyards and to renovate the winery's structures and facilities.

The winery is run by his son, Luigi Cataldi Madonna, who continues the important working philosophy whose goal is to safeguard and enhance the specific characteristics of the terroir. Ofena, the city where the winery is located, is in a mountain's valley at 380 meters (1246 feet), to the feet of Gran Sasso, which is traditionally called "oven of Abruzzo". Thanks to the exceptional exposition to the sun and to the sensible diurnal tempratures, this area has remarkable qualities for wine making, also thanks to the composition of the soil.

Our Riesling beautifully complements all manner of Asian cuisines, spicy fare and flavorful, fresh, local foods.

Sustainability from Vine to bottle

  • Our winery is centrally located within fifty miles of all our vineyards, reducing freight and therefore reducing our carbon footprint.
  • Skylights offset demand for electrical lighting. And energy-efficient alternatives are employed throughout our winemaking process.

Winemaker's Notes:

Located south of the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County, Central Avenue Vineyard produces striking yet friendly wines because of its moderately warm days, cool nights, and shale loam soil. This delicate wine offers floral and violet aromas, followed by bright cherry fruit flavors. Its complex aromas make it a perfect accompaniment for afternoon entertaining or lighter meals. Pair this wine with luncheon salads, seafood, or chicken dishes.

Handpicked fruit was gently crushed on top of approximately 10% whole cluster grapes and allowed to "cold soak" for 72 hours. A highly specialized yeast provided a slow, cool fermentation to help preserve the delicate aromas and flavors characteristic of Pinot Noir. Pressed directly into French oak barrels, the wine was then aged for nine months before blending bottling.

Floral aromas of violet and rose petals are nicely complimented by dark cherry fruit flavors and caramel, a result of French oak aging. This Pinot Noir is a perfect accompaniment to afternoon entertaining or lighter meals. Being quite versatile, it pairs well with luncheon salads, seafood, pork, or chicken dishes.

My Notes:

About Pessagno Winery:

Each vineyard is carefully selected for the high quality of its fruit and meticulously overseen during the growing season to intensify the aromas and flavors of the grapes. The wines are handcrafted in separate lots using only the finest winemaking techniques and traditional French oak barrels.

Winemaker's Notes:

Our Brut Rosé offers a bouquet of ripe Pinot Noir fruit, rich with black cherry and strawberry notes. Part of the wine is initially fermented in the press, producing the soft fruity character that gives Brut Rosé its directness, while a small percentage of Chardonnay gives the wine power and structure. This more robust quality makes Brut Rosé a wonderful wine with many kinds of cuisine, ranging from Thai to Italian.

#63 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010

The 2008 Stump Jump Red has a nose of ripe and juicy red fruits and fresh plums mixed with dark cherry, rhubarb and cardamon. The palate is soft and generous, with juicy fresh red berries, mulberry and a hint of pomegranate. Underlying is a more subtle layer of plum stone, star anise and cinnamon which adds complexity and interest, with soft powdery tannins to finish.

About d'Arenberg:

One of the undisputed kings of Australian Shiraz and Rhone varietals, d'Arenberg has managed to turn individuality into an art form by doing a whole lot of little things differently. The original vineyards were established by Joseph Osborn in 1912 in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia. A century on, the estate has grown to 345 acres, and the mantle now rests with fourth-generation winemaker, Chester Osborn. By maintaining a focus on traditional winemaking and nurturing their old-vine material, the Osborn clan has successfully established themselves as one of the country's leading producers of concentrated wines that are full of character.

Winemaker's Notes:

Because of the popularity and demand of our Dry Riesling and Sweet Riesling, we thought it made perfect sense to craft a Riesling in a taste profile that was directly between our other popular Rieslings. Combine the facts that this slightly sweet flavor profile represents over one million cases sold in the market and that our new Riesling is line-priced with our Dry Riesling and Sweet Riesling, it's a homerun proposition.

As wine lovers crave alternatives to heavy and oaky white wines, Riesling is experiencing a true revival (like a phoenix rising from the ashes—the inspiration for our label artwork). Portraying bright crispness, subtle sweetness and aromas of jasmine, pear and apple, the wine exemplifies the harmony of Riesling. The sweetness plays wonderfully with fiery fare (from Thai to Mexican), while the natural acidity stands up to richer foods (from French to German).

Winemaker's Notes:

The Columbia Valley grapes that we choose for the Sweet Riesling are picked earlier (at about 20-21 Brix) than the grapes for the Dry Riesling. We use mostly native yeast and ferment at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Like our Dry Riesling, there is no use of oak barrels or malolactic fermentation. We stop the fermentation at about 7% residual sugar, and we clean the wine rapidly to retain as much freshness and fruitiness as possible. We leave a fair amount of carbon dioxide in the wine to create a lively feeling to the wine – although it's not spritzy. The resulting wine is moderately sweet and refreshingly low in alcohol with flavors of pineapple and peach. Our Sweet Riesling brings perfect balance to all fiery fare – especially Thai, Szechwan, Mexican, Middle Eastern and Caribbean cuisine…or simply enjoy as an aperitif.
