About Robert Mondavi Winery:

For more than 40 years, Robert Mondavi Winery has been the symbol of Napa Valley. Founded in 1966, it was the first major winery built in Napa Valley in the three decades following the repeal of Prohibition (1933), and went on to establish the foundation for modern California winemaking. Robert Mondavi Winery's mission-styled architecture, with the expansive archway and bell tower designed by Cliff May, has become an enduring landmark that honors California's history. With the philosophy that great wines reflect their origins, Robert Mondavi Winery pursues the fullest expression of the terroir of its Napa Valley vineyards: the historic To Kalon Vineyard in the Oakville American Viticultural Area (AVA), and the Wappo Hill Vineyard in the Stags Leap Vineyard AVA.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby in appearance. This wine has concentrated ripe cherry, black currant and plum aromas interlaced with complex notes of dark chocolate, clove and toasty oak and build a complementary blend of enticing aromas. Well-structured and integrated, the richly woven palate boasts mountain characteristics of intense dark berry and cassis with highlights of bay, anise and mocha. Full and textural, hints of nutmeg and vanilla bean add to the long persistent finish.

Blend: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 4% Petite Verdot, 1% Malbec, and 1% Syrah

My Notes:

About Mount Veeder Winery:

Mount Veeder Winery is a dramatic estate with three vineyards carved high in the hillsides of the Mayacamas Mountains, overlooking southern Napa Valley. The property totals 121 acres, mostly forest and brush, out of which only 47 are planted to vine.

Vines ranging from 1,000–1,600 feet in elevation cling to rugged, steep slopes that offer cool conditions that lead to slow ripening, which extends the growing season. Mount Veeder is usually the last to harvest in Napa Valley. The result is fruit with highly concentrated flavors - big, bold and brambly - a Cab lover's feast.

Mount Veeder Winery was the first in Napa Valley to plant all five red Bordeaux varieties in the same vineyard. Its expertise with these grapes is manifest in Mount Veeder Winery Reserve, a meritage blend of these noble grapes, which are still grown on the property.

Winemaker's Notes:

This Pinot is leap out the glass good. The wine has a beautiful rich nose of blackberry pie fresh from the oven with maybe an edge of blueberry. In the mouth there is a velvety richness with bright red fruit flavors and a nudge of black pepper and exotic spices. The sweet berry center has a tad of vanilla or honey that heightens that central sweet spot and escorts the wine through a valley of subtle complexities that add to the melding of berry, earth and graveliness as it dances across your palate.

Additional wines from Roco:

About Roco:

Rollin and Corby Soles planted their small Wits' End Vineyard, located on the southwest slope of the Chehalem Mountains, in 2001. Two years later they produced their first vintage, four barrels of the 2003 Private Stash Pinot Noir. They were so delighted with the wine that they decided to produce two separate ROCO Pinot Noirs each vintage: the Private Stash and Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Rollin brings more than twenty years of Oregon winemaking experience, a passion for Pinot Noir and insistence on the highest winemaking standards to this private family venture.

Bright, dark red. Spicy red berries, cherry and a flinty nuance on the nose. Then silky, supple and sweet with chewy black and red cherry flavors. Not especially fleshy but offers an attractive restrained sweetness and finishes with rather soft tannins and good length. Perfect for sirloin steak, grilled, roasted or stewed red meats.
My Notes:

Additional wines from La Poderina:

About La Poderina:

La Poderina is located in Montalcino, acquired by Saiagricola in 1988 and has been the "dependance" in Montalcino of the group. With 20 hectares of vineyard, situated in the southwest part of Montalcino, it is found in a perhaps little known position but certainly one of the most valid of the entire zone. Production is centered on the renewal of the enological style of Brunello, a famous red wine, but sometimes a bit too much repressed by traditional methods, which are in certain ways obsolete.

The wines of La Poderina, on the other hand, undergo an ageing process in little barrels for years, barriques of French rovere next to large casks, but overall in the vineyard systems of highly qualitative cultivation are adapted, that nothing gives into the quantity of the production for vine stock, with surrender that amply maintain under 8 ton (200 pounds) per acre according to the regulations. Difficult decisions, without a doubt, but also the only possibility if you want to follow with coherence the objective of the maximum possible quality. A tough commitment given the international prestige that a wine like Brunello di Montalcino possesses and in particular that of the sub zone of Castelnouvo dell'Albate, that stands out for its elegance and equilibrium.

It is in this light that the wine making research that the technical staff of La Poderina have been carrying out for 10 years, has to be considered. Emphasizing as much as possible the typical characteristics, not only of Brunello or Rosso but also of the specific area in question. The achievements are greatly encouraging and open an opportunity for new interpretation of a great wine with Tuscan and Italian traditions like Brunello di Montalcino.

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2008 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir exemplifies the characteristics of Pinot Noir from the Northern region of this AVA: bright aromatics of forest floor, oregano, marjoram and fresh cherry. Notes of ripe raspberry and earthy loam give way to intense flavors of blackberry and subtle mineral notes. This elegant Pinot Noir has excellent structure and complexity with a long, intricate finish. It will continue to develop subtle nuances with time in the bottle.
My Notes:

Additional wines from MacMurray Ranch:

About MacMurray Ranch:

MacMurray Ranch was purchased from the Porter family by famed actor Fred MacMurray in 1941. Fred raised his family on the ranch and they enjoyed the natural wonders of Sonoma County. Today, the ranch looks much as it did a century ago, surrounded by rail fences and framed by oak and redwood groves. Only now it is home to some of Sonoma County's finest vineyards. Aside from being beautiful, the Russian River Valley is among the premier growing regions for Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. MacMurray Ranch speaks to the legacy of the land by crafting wines from this appellation with elegance and finesse.

The wines of MacMurray Ranch are crafted with care by winemaker Susan Doyle, who has a patient, gentle approach that gets the best out of Pinot Noir and its cousin Pinot Gris. Susan is guiding the wines of MacMurray Ranch to achieve both depth and the finely nuanced range of flavors that expresses the nature of the place where they were born. With her university studies in both winegrowing and winemaking, Susan makes wines that reflect the old Burgundian sense of "terroir", the special qualities that weather, land, and the hand of man that give her wines their individual distinction.

Winemaker's Notes:

Every year, we bring in approximately 35 lots of Zinfandel averaging 25-30 years in age. Each of these lots is produced under the careful eye of our winemaker, Ted Seghesio. The best of these lots are selected to make Sonoma Zinfandel. A small amount of Petite Sirah is blended in the wine for added complexity. The result is a tantalizing black raspberry and classic briary flavored wine with a balance of components for which Seghesio wines are known.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Seghesio Family Vineyards:

About Seghesio Family Vineyards:

Established in 1985, when Edoardo Seghesio planted his first Zinfandel vineyard in Sonoma County's Alexander Valley, Seghesio Family Vineyards produces wines that honor the history of Sonoma and the Seghesio family. Seghesio Family Vineyards' 300 acres in the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River valleys represent some of the oldest vineyards and proprietary clones. With a passionate belief that wine is made in the vineyard, Seghesio pairs a century of experience on these treasured sites with aggressive farming techniques. True to their oldest plantings, Seghesio concentrates on Zinfandel, Italian varietals and Pinot Noir. Ted Seghesio is the winemaker.

The 2007 Tomorrowland Syrah is a wine of refinement and purity from splendid cool-climate Sonoma vineyards. Rich yet restrained notes of cured meat, dark chocolate, and underbrush coat the palate. Vibrant essences of violets, cooked herbs, Turkish tobacco, and espresso grounds stimulate the nose. Drinking it transports you to a distant dream.
My Notes:

About Red Car Wine Company:

Red Car uses meticulous viticulture and transparent winemaking to craft wines with authentic character and originality. Combining old and new world techniques, we minimize manipulation so the fruit can faithfully express the cool climate personality of the Sonoma Coast.

Red Car was founded by Carroll Kemp and Mark Estrin in 2000 with 50 cases of Syrah from a single ton of grapes. Besides an enthusiasm for wine, they also shared a Hollywood background – Carroll as producer, Mark as screenwriter. Their intent was simple: source great grapes, make great wine and market it in an inventive, original way.

The winery name is a tribute to the electric trolley cars that ran throughout Los Angeles from the late 19th century through the early 1960’s. These "red cars" provided transportation in a romanticized time and place. We strive to make wines that are similarly memorable and transportive.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 Pewsey Vale Riesling is a rich and intensely flavored wine. Classic fruit aromas of talcum, lemons and limes, with a hint of overlaying dried herb are present, along with a palate showing great length and depth with limes, and a hint of tropical fruit. The wine finishes with a soft but fresh natural acidity which balances the flavour intensity, and will reward with medium to long-term cellaring.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Pewsey Vale:

About Pewsey Vale:

Pewsey Vale Vineyard was first planted to Riesling by Joseph Gilbert in 1847. The site was later purchased by well known grazier Geoff Angas-Parsons whom in 1961 invited his friend Wyndham Hill Smith to jointly develop the historic vineyard site. They believed the site could produce "delicate Rieslings in the Germanic style".

With an altitude varying between 485 metres and 500 metres, Pewsey Vale sits 250 metres above the Barossa Valley floor. The cooler temperatures found at this height encourage a longer ripening period which extends well into autumn. This longer ripening period is essential for producing superior quality grapes with exceptional flavour and character - hallmarks of Pewsey Vale wines. Block to block variation enables winemakers to select from separate parcels of fruit to tailor wines to the Pewsey Vale style, ensuring consistency from vintage to vintage.

Made with full extraction and long skin contact, this wine is made to maximize body and weight while having long silky tannins. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of ripe dark cherry and blackberry notes with mocha, clove and a hint of vanilla. This wine offers lush, juicy cherry and blueberry flavors. On the palate, sweet vanilla, clove, and a hint of cinnamon are brought forth by the nuances of French oak aging. Seamless with a nice long finish, this wine is very elegant with a fine structure.
My Notes:

About Atlas Peak Winery:

Atlas Peak was established in 1987. Over time it became clear that Atlas Peak's most valuable hidden resource was literally underfoot: the elevation of its vineyards. The grapes growing at high elevation, and above the natural fog line, experience much lower daytime temperatures than those on the valley floor, allowing the grapes to stay cool while gaining maximum sun exposure. As a result, growers up on the mountain can afford to harvest later and pick for flavor with less worry about over ripening and excessive alcohol. No grape develops as well in mountain conditions as Cabernet Sauvignon.

Atlas Peak crafts Napa Valley mountain appellation Cabernet Sauvignon from such prestigious areas as Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain District and Mount Veeder, in addition to Atlas Peak. Atlas Peak’s Cabernet Sauvignon wines are driven by an appreciation of mountain-grown fruit and winemaking techniques that capture the distinct flavors derived from the mountain appellations in which they are grown.
