Winemaker's Notes:

This 100% Garnacha offers a lovely perfume of spice box, mineral, and wild cherry. This perfectly balanced mix of flavors lends itself to an intensely fruity wine with loads of taste, a smooth texture, and a pure, fruit-filled finish.

Pairs well with white and red meats roasted or grilled, big game, meat casseroles and stews, complex sauces, foie gras and legumes or blue and cured cheeses.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2011 Monastrell is a bright red cherry color of medium structure with purple reflections. Intense aromas of ripe red fruit (blueberry and raspberry). In the mouth it is silky, well structured and balanced.

About Bodegas Castano:

There are only a handful of wineries remaining in Yecla since the phyloxera plague, and they are led by the forward-thinking Bodegas Castano, which has helped to reinvigorate the winemaking in the region.

Created by Ramon Castano Santa and his 3 sons, Bodegas Castano is not nearly as old as the vines it owns. Starting quite small, the family has nurtured these old plantings and re-planted other parcels and now owns 350 hectares of some of the prime vineyard land in Yecla. Today, Daniel Castano, one of Ramon's sons, runs the winery with the help of other members of the family.

The extremely talented Mariano Lopez has taken over the winemaker reins at the Bodega, and has turned the focus toward more balanced bottlings of older vine Monastrell. Both traditional and carbonic maceration techniques are used and all wines pass through malolactic fermentation. Daniel believes that the fruit and tannin structure of the Monastrell varietal stands up well to the use of oak, and as such, many of the wines pass (in varying degrees) through a barrel regime.

Winemaker's Notes:

Evodia is an exciting new project in the Denominacion de Origen Calatayud, hailed as one of Spain's most progressive and promising wine growing regions. It is here, in the vineyards of Atea, that Altovinum sources their Garnacha grapes for Evodia. In addition to the remarkable climate due to elevation, the property is comprised of pure schiste soils, known as pisara in the local area. Aficionados familiar with the wines of the Priorat and the Roussillon are well acquainted to this soil type and its extraordinary influence on the wines.

Blend: 100% Garnacha

Winemaker's Notes:

A semi-sweet medium bodied Germanic-styled wine. Vibrant aromas of peach, pear, citrus and honeysuckle flowers. The explosive mouth-filling flavors mirror the aromas with star fruit and steely apple malic acidity, giving a sweettart balance. Clean and refreshing with a crisp mouth-watering finish.

Great by itself. A good match with light cheeses, citrus fruits, slightly sweet fowl dishes with fruit chutney, prawns, scallops, and crab. Serve well chilled on the table and allow to warm in your glass for optimal enjoyment of aromas and flavor.

"This ripe wine is lush with notes of pear and hints of lemon meringue, the texture fleshy and simple. For afternoon sipping." 88 Points

About Willamette Valley Vineyards:

United in the dream of building a world class winery in Oregon, thousands of wine enthusiasts joined winegrower Jim Bernau to create Willamette Valley Vineyards, which is regarded as one of Oregon's top wineries. Since 1983, the winery has grown to produce some of the highest-rated Pinot Noirs in the U.S. Wine Enthusiast magazine has named Willamette Valley Vineyards one of "America's Great Pinot Noir Producers." Their wines have been served at the White House and are recommended by wine critic and author Andrea Immer, Food Network's Rachael Ray and Public Broadcasting's chefs Caprial and John Pence.

Willamette Valley Vineyards' goal is to make the highest quality Burgundian varietals possible from the Willamette Valley. Their approach is to grow, by hand, the highest quality fruit using careful canopy management, and achieve wines that are truly expressive of the varietal and the place where they are grown. Bernau's stylistic emphasis is on pure varietal fruit characters, with attention to depth and richness of mouth feel and balance.

The people of Willamette Valley Vineyards are deeply committed to being good stewards of the land using natural means to promote soil nutrition and vine health. Both the Estate and Tualatin vineyards are LIVE certified and designated "Salmon Safe" by the Pacific Rivers Council.
