Winemaker's Notes:

A deep dense ruby color, this sumptuous Cabernet explodes with expressive aromas of black cherry and cassis complimented by notes of black pepper, mocha, and vanilla. The palate is a mouthful of juicy ripe berries and spice, seamlessly integrated into a long finish of fine grained tannins. The classic steakhouse wine, pair with well marbled rib eye, a New York steak or rack of lamb.

Winemaker's Notes:

Pale straw color with green tints. Vibrant citrus lemon peel and nectarine fruit characters with underlying toasy oak and minerality. A fine, elegant style with attractive citrus and stonefruit characters. Barrel fermentation chashew nut characters add further complexity, finishing with integrated toasty oak and balanced acidity. Predominantly sourced from the Upper Yarra Valley, this wine exhibits attractive cool climate Chardonnay characters from the dry 2007 vintage.
My Notes:

About Coldstream Hills:

Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday. From its initial vintage of 450 cases it has grown to become one of Australia's leading small wineries, its wines sold in some 16 countries and a reputation out of all proportion to its size.

Situated in the cool and beautiful Yarra Valley, about one hour's drive east of Melbourne, its steep, close-planted vineyards have become a signature of the region. So too have its wines (most notably Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs) which reflect a climate cooler than Bordeaux and a little warmer than Burgundy.

France too provides all the oak barriques (1500, but increasing year by year) and no small amount of inspiration for the winemaking team of James Halliday and, Paul Lapsley.

The wines are quite literally, hand made, mainly using small open fermenters (of three to four tonnes capacity) for the red wines, while the white wines are barrel fermented. Notwithstanding the increasing production, there has been and will be no significant change in the winemaking techniques or philosophies inherent to Coldstream Hills.

These techniques are directed to making wines, which are characterised by elegance and finesse, by silky supple texture, length of flavour, subtle oak and the ability to develop extra dimensions of complexity with bottle age. These are not weighty, extractive, tannic or alchoholic styles, however impressive well made examples of these may be.

Winemaker's Notes:

On a terrace of Sonoma Mountain at 1150' elevation, the van der Kamp vineyard has been farmed for over 100 years and sustains some of the oldest Pinot noir vines in Sonoma County. A trout pond, fruit trees, prayer flags, Native American artifacts and a few roosters are found around the north-facing vineyard, which traverses soils from the reddish volcanic loam of the "Red Shoulder" area to a deeper, darker clay loam region.

Offering enticing aromas of cran-raspberry, baking spices, hints of pine duff and eucalyptus, this wine is lifted and bright on the nose. The palate entry brings distinct minerality traced by notes of sarsaparilla, plum, dark cherry clove and pronounced, yet silky tannins which broaden through the finish.

My Notes:

Additional wines from DeLoach Vineyards:

About DeLoach Vineyards:

The Russian River Valley has come to be known as "America’s Burgundy," and DeLoach is proud to have been an important factor in this distinction. DeLoach's wines have won numerous accolades and scored many 90+ ratings over the years. DeLoach's mission is to produce exceptional wines that spotlight the singular personality of the Russian River Valley in a socially responsible, environmentally sensitive way. They seek to foster a better understanding of the Valley's unique terroir, with its rare and bountiful convergence of the sea, the soil and the stars.

A very complex and intense aroma, quite fresh and vibrant highlighting the characteristics of the 3 grape varieties, violets and spice from the Merlot, cherry/savory aromas from the Cabernet Franc and berry/earthy elements from the Cabernet Sauvignon. A very attractive wine and a true reflection of balance, elegance and power.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Penley Estate:

About Penley Estate:

Established in 1988, by Kym Tolley, a direct descendant of the famous Penfold and Tolley winemaking families – the name Penley is an amalgam of the first three and last three letters from each title.

Tolley has over 25 years of winemaking experience, including being involved in the making of many vintages of the famous Penfolds Grange. The estate is located in the heart of Coonawarra, with the vines planted in the famed "terra rossa" soils – bright red top-soils overlaying soft free-draining limestone.

Critically acclaimed as one of Coonawarra's leading estates, and voted as one of the International Wineries of the Year 2001 by Wine & Spirits Magazine, while the Reserve Cabernet voted best wine of Coonawarra 2001, as judged by winemaking peers and critics.

The Penley Estate signature style comprises distinct, precise, terrior driven wines – not overly oaked or excessively alcoholic. They display ripe clean fruit with true regional character – the senior wines will age for many years.

Deep, brillitant red color. Ripe and aromatic, this wine has an explosive nose with intense red fruit expression. On the palate, it is fine and elegant, with a good balance of alcohol and acidity. Black and red cherry flavors, surround sweet earthy notes. A long, rich and smooth finish due to the very ripe and soft tannins.
My Notes:

About Llai Llai:

We do not think of who we are and what we do in terms of Old World or New World. We think of ourselves as passionate people who want to make a difference in wine, with wine and around wine.

Exploring South America is our passion. Not content to continue growing grapes in the same regions we always have, we set out more than two decades ago to explore new lands, curious to see how different soils and climates would affect our favorite wine varietals.

#43 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2011

The rich and toasty character of our Blanc de Noirs is balanced and superb. Aged for two-year minimum, the palate is developed and shows rich complex flavors. The amazing berries aromas and the creamy texture play a leading role and create a great finesse. Winemaker's Note: A fine salmon color, aggressive mousse and a lovely fruity wine with plenty of immediate charm and toasty aromas. There is also an explosive juicy flavor of raspberry.

About Gruet:

Gilbert Gruet founder of Gruet Winery was born in Bethon, France in 1931. He grew up in a poor family, and began working at a young age. In 1952, Gilbert Gruet, along with his wife Danielle, dreamt of producing fine quality Champagne. Gilbert followed his heart and in 1967 created the U.V.C.B. (Union Vinicole des Coteaux de Bethon), a co-op in the village of Bethon.

In 1983, the Gruet family was traveling through the Southwestern part of the United States, and while in New Mexico met a group of European winemakers who had successfully planted vineyards In Engle, near the town of Truth or Consequence, 170 miles south of Albuquerque. The land was inexpensive and the opportunity golden. In 1984, Gilbert Gruet, whose Champagne house, Gruet et Fils had produced fine Champagne in Bethon, France, since 1952, made the decision to plant an experimental vineyard, exclusively planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. His children, winemaker Laurent and daughter Nathalie, then relocated to the great state of New Mexico to begin their American wine making adventure.

Winemaker's Notes:

Grown in the heart of the Rutherford appellation the 2010 Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc alludes to its storied region with aromas of wet stone, peach blossom and Meyer lemon zest. Across the palate the varietal's fruit character moves forward with more citrus and a touch of stone fruit all supported by the wine's minerality and crisp, bracing acid. This refreshing wine has a lingering finish that is sure to satisfy on a warm summer's day, or with an array of dishes from pan roasted Petrale Sole to a few simple slices of Chèvre.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Frog's Leap:

About Frog's Leap:

Frog's Leap is an iconic California winery dedicated to organic farming, sustainable living and quality wines. Situated in the Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley, Frog’s Leap produces wine under the leadership of John Williams, a former dairy farmer from New York who created the winery in 1981.

John Williams grew up in Western New York and originally attended Cornell University to extend his studies as a dairyman. A fortuitous work-study program at Taylor Wine Company and a few bottles of wine later, John entered the Enology and Viticulture Masters Program at UC Davis. Following Davis, he returned to the Finger Lakes as the start-up winemaker at Glenora Wine Cellars. Taking inspiration from his first Napa Valley winemaking post in the cellars of Stag's Leap, John began making wine commercially in 1981 and named the new operation "Frog's Leap."

Frog's Leap presents a relaxed approach to enjoying wine. An easy hospitality and warm sense of humor is juxtaposed with a more serious sensibility when making wine. Frog's Leap produces some of Napa Valley's finest wines and, undoubtedly, has one of the wine world's best mottos: "Time's Fun When You're Having Flies."

The wines produced range from Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc. We have quite the line up to offer so we hope you’ll try one of these delicious wines that harmoniously combine quality, sustainability and value.

First certified by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) in 1988 Frog's Leap has been a leader in the industry for over two decades. The winery relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and control pests on a farm. Organic farming excludes the use of manufactured fertilizers and pesticides, plant growth regulators and genetically modified organisms. Organic farming involves mechanical weed control (via cultivating or hoeing) rather than herbicidal weed control.

Winemaker's Notes:

#4 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 of 2007!

One of the first "Super Tuscans," Tignanello is meant to last. Although its delicious structure and flavors can be enjoyed while young too. The nose shows layers of dark fruits and spice, with subtle notes of toasted oak. On the palate the wine is rich but well structured with fine tannins. Layers of fruit give the wine complexity, which continues through the long finish.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Antinori:

About Antinori:

The Antinori family of Florence, one of the world's oldest and most distinguished wine producers, has lived in Tuscany since the 14th century and celebrated its 625th anniversary as wine makers in 2010. The current company president, Marchese Piero Antinori, believes in the tradition that the primary role of wine is to accompany food and enhance the dining experience. In Florence, the Antinori family has led a "Renaissance" in Italian wine making by combining long traditions, a love of authenticity and a dynamic innovative spirit.
