Winemaker's Notes:

Straw-colored with greenish tints, and with a steady effervescence and a formation of small bubbles which generate a gentle crown. Subtle and delicate, floral, with light toasty notes and recall of dry fruits. Touch of dried herbs. It is appetising, fruity, well structured, rich and mature in the mouth. A slightly toasted background flavor with pleasant traces of lees. Altogether elegant. Lingering and strong.

Winemaker's Notes:

Four decades ago my father Wyndham initiated the practice of putting aside a few barrels of each years production of our deluxe tawny ports. Known in the cellar as "Antique Tawny", these wines are left to quietly mature in various corners of our marble cellars. During this ageing process, evaporation (known as the "Angels Share") occurs at between 2.5% and 4.5% each and every year. Our master port blender, David Doc Zimmermann, then painstakingly assembles a wine with an average age of over 15 years - rich and concentrated, it is an important part of Australias wine heritage.

COLOUR: Deep tawny with green tinges around the edges indicating prolonged aging in wood.

BOUQUET: Intense wood aged rancio featuring dried fruits, chocolate and caramel. Elegant brandy spirit adds sweet vanillin and oak complexity.

PALATE: Rich and soft in the middle. Complex rancio flavours with persistent nutty caramel aftertaste. Fine spirit characters balance the sweetness producing an elegant drying finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

Of a deep red color, the first impression is marked by the intensity of the aromatic expression. The wine is fleshy in mouth, the attack is frank, the finish is long with very present tannins but not rough at all. The woody notes of the barrel is discreet.

Additional wines from Château Patache d'Aux:

About Château Patache d'Aux:

The first owners of the Château were the descendants of the Counts of Armagnac, the Chevaliers d’Aux. They can be traced back as early as 1632. Classified as a cru bourgeois in 1932 the Château has belonged to the Lapalu family since 1964. Strong and concentrated The Patache d’Aux wines can age remarkably well and their aromatic freshness and strong structure are still evident up to 10 or 15 years later.

Additional wines from Cambria Winery:

About Cambria Winery:

Cambria is a private, family-owned estate winery that has carved out a reputation for producing lush, tropical Chardonnay, velvety-textured Pinot noir and rich, spicy Syrah since its inception in 1987. Cambria's proximity to the ocean and east-west orientation gives this 1,400-acre property the diversity it needs to grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah under perfectly suited conditions. As an estate property, Cambria's Vineyard Manager and Winemaker work in tandem to perfect the winegrowing process. Together, they select only the finest grapes from the estate to bear the Cambria name. Every grape is hand-harvested and crafted into wine with the utmost care and respect foe the varietal.

In recent years, Cambria has concentrated its vineyard and winemaking resources into amplifying different aspects of the Cambria estate. This effort launched an in-depth exploration of the vineyard and varieties on this cool-climate property. The result has elevated the quality of Cambria's core wines, created new site-focused and distinct winemaking styles, and dramatically highlighted the bold flavors of each variety. Today, the flagship wines, making up 90% of the production, include Katherine's Chardonnay, Julia's Pinot Noir and Tepusquet Syrah. Each wine represents the broad definition of flavor, for that variety, on the estate.

Winemaker's Notes:

With Vitiano we have tried to achieve a young red wine with explosive, luscious aromatic fragrance. This wine has a wonderful, deep, intense ruby red colour with important, solid, and wide organoleptic qualities, but above all it exalts the food it is combined with. It is very rich in polyphenols which harmonize with its fresh, tasty acidity. It is versatile red, quite innovative in style which can be appreciated immediately. It adapts easily to various dishes and can be drunk litghtheartedly drawing great pleasure from the sharp fragrance of its perfumes and its straightforward character. It should be drunk in wide crystal chalices where it can best develop its bouquet.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Falesco:

About Falesco:

In 2006, our customers purchased more bottles of wine from Falesco than from any other winery in the world! And it's no wonder, as this winery makes some of the top value wines in Italy, if not the world. Falesco's most popular wine is Vitiano, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese grown in Umbria. This is a perennial must-buy: It's lush and fruity, and always seems to garnish outstanding scores from the wine critics.

Falesco was founded in 1979 by Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, brothers that also happen to be two of Italy's most acclaimed winemakers. Their philosophy is to strike a balance between the uniqueness of native Italian varieties and the versatility of more "international" grapes. As evidenced by the enormous popularity of their wine and the countless worldwide accolades they have received, they have clearly succeeded in achieving their goal. Salute!
