Winemaker's Notes:

This Morgon displays a beautiful intense purple color highlighted with glints of ruby. Its fruit character lies in the direction of apricot, peach, cherry and plum, with subtle hints of kirsch and anise. Notice a broad-shouldered, ample structure.

About Georges Duboeuf:

For over 40 years Georges Duboeuf has been the Beaujolais region's most renowned négociant and is today regarded in the wine world as the "King of Beaujolais." Born in 1933 in Pouilly-Fuissé, the son of a winegrower, Georges began selling his family's wines from the back of his bicycle to now-legendary local chefs such as Paul Bocuse and Paul Blanc. In 1964, Georges realized his dream and founded his own company: Les Vins Georges Duboeuf.

Over the years, Georges has developed long-standing relationships with the region's top growers and winemakers. Georges is involved in every aspect of his enterprise and is known for his passion and his legendary palate. In 2003, the Duboeuf family opened a new, modern winery in Romanéche-Thorins. The following year, the Duboeuf and Deutsch families jointly purchased Château des Capitans in Juliénas. With annual sales of 30 million bottles, Georges Duboeuf is one of the world's best-known French brands.

Bright, deep, cherry-red. Intense aromas of ripe black berries to the nose accompanied with balsamic touches which are reminiscent of coconut and licorice. It is fresh and pleasant in the mouth with a noticeable texture where the smoky and fruit assembled nuances reappear. Long and enfolding finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

An intense crimson color. A fine expression of this lovely 'Capitans' terroir, with highly complex aromas on the nose and palate – hints of flowers (peony), roasting, mocha and vanilla, fruit (blackberry), spices (pepper) and licorices. Remarkably rich on the palate with powerful tannins and an opulent fleshiness. A wine to lay down for many years. Sommelier's tip: decant an hour before serving.

Winemaker's Notes:

#41 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2012

The Tuscan classic. Chianti wines originated in the 13th century, but there's nothing old-fashioned about the contemporary taste of Folonari Chianti.

This 100% Sangiovese is a wine vinified in stainless steel to emphasize fresh, crisp flavors of these grapes. A Tuscan treasure and 100% Italian, this DOCG wine is made using grapes sourced from Italy's most well-known wine producing area, the Chianti region. With juicy flavors and fragrant aromas, this wine is fresh, fruity, full and harmonious, with blackberry and raspberry notes and toasted almond notes on the finish.

Pair with: Veal, pork, pizza, pasta with meat sauce, chicken

My Notes:

Additional wines from Folonari:

About Folonari:

The history of Folonari dates from 1825, when Francesco Folonari founded the firm in Valcamonica in the Veneto. In the latter half of the 19th century, he and his sons moved to Brescia, establishing one of Italy's first winemaking facilities. They pioneered the production and distribution of wine in bottle, thus making it possible for consumers to drink wines of good and constant quality on an everyday basis. This philosophy continues to guide the firm today as it offers a range of typical regional wines from the most popular viticultural areas.

Folonari Soave is the daily choice of many discriminating wine drinkers, an easy; gentle dry wine, which everyone will enjoy. Pinot Grigio is a fresh, dry varietal with a subtle touch of almonds, grown in the Veneto district, and the perfect step up from Folonari Soave. Compare Folonari Pinot Grigio to examples selling several times its modest price! Merlot, a soft, round red wine pleasing to all palates, is a terrific bargain in a variety, and still very fashionable. In keeping with their tradition of assuring value for money, Folonari also offers a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon at a fraction of the cost of comparable wines as well as other selections in keeping with their tradition of assuring value for money.

This wine is a bright, ruby red color, with brick red hints. The aromas are intense and complex, with vanilla, spiced and aromatic herbs perfectly blended with mature red fruit. The mouth shows very balanced, fine, elegant and rounded structure. It has a long, very pleasing finish.

Ideal for all types of grilled and roasted meats. It also matches well with strong fish and all kind of cured cheeses. Tasty with chocolate desserts and puddings.

The color is a lively and brilliant dark ruby-red. The perfume is fresh and intense with clean scents of wild berries, currants and sour black cherry. A light hint of vanilla and toasted oak. The flavor is warm and robust, full-bodied, pleasant and balanced.

This Barbera's sensory attributes make it an outstanding accompaniment for imposing first courses and main-course, meats boiled or roasted.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Marchesi di Barolo:

About Marchesi di Barolo:

Setting precedents is a characteristic of Piedmontese winemaking and Marchesi di Barolo, one of the region's premier producers of Barolo, is no exception. In the mid-1800s, Marchesi di Barolo became the first estate in Italy to vinify its red wines in a dry style, a revolutionary concept at the time, but one with enduring and immensely beneficial consequences for the entire Italian wine industry.

In contrast to its noble French counterparts, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, which flourish in various corners of the world, Nebbiolo rarely thrives outside its native Piedmontese habitat. While relatively resistant to frost, damp and mist, it is highly sensitive to terrain, faring best in the Langhe district's chalky, marly soil of maritime origin.

Producing majestic red wines of phenomenal depth, complexity and longevity, Nebbiolo is the earliest red grape variety in Piedmont to bud and the last to ripen. Its name derives from the early morning mists, or "nebbia," that shroud the lower slopes of the Langhe hillsides during the fall harvest period.

The Marchesi di Barolo estate takes pride in the international reputation it has established for its fine Barolo DOCG and two superb single-vineyard crus, Barolo Cannubi DOCG and Barolo Sarmassa DOCG, all made from 100% estate-grown Nebbiolo grapes.

Winemaker's Notes:

For over a century of production, it is the most important red wine. In the cellar of Barbi Farm, one can see a collection of thousands of bottles of Brunello, starting from the harvest of 1892. It ferments on average for 14 days in steel tanks without ever exceeding 28°C. It is then refined for at least 2 years in barrels of Slavonian oak and four months in bottles. So it arrives on the market ready to drink, but with such a structure to prolong its life in the bottle for many years.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Fattoria dei Barbi:

About Fattoria dei Barbi:

Takes its name from the free-spirited gentleman named Bruscone who lived in the woods of the Barbi Estate. Patented system of vinification, based on the Tuscan tradition of “May Wines.” A wine which was born from the extensive soaking of skinned Sangiovese grapes that rest for 3 months with their pomace. One of the first “Super-Tuscan’s.” Fattoria dei Barbi is "The" reference for Brunello in Montalcino. Barbi's approach of using tradition to anchor contemporary expressions of wine continues to position Barbi as a leading producer in Brunello. The Colombini family is one of the most influential of the region and have been an integral part in writing the history of Brunello. Fattoria dei Barbi's commitment to innovation and quality have lead to many "firsts."

My Notes:

Additional wines from Chateau Pesquie:

About Chateau Pesquie:

In 1985, Paul and Edith Chaudiere left their jobs in private industry (she was a voice therapist and he was a physical therapist) to study wine at one of France's top wine universities at Suze la Rousse. 1989 marked the creation of the property in Mormoiron, one of the tiny villages dotting the beautiful countryside under the Mont Ventoux. Since then, they have been pushing the quality envelope in the zone, forcing other growers to raise quality as well. The name "Pesquie" comes from old provencal (which by the way is still spoken by a few people in the area) and means a "water basin" (the property is built on the site of an old pond.) The wines from Pesquie are some of the best values in the EC portfolio and would be double the price if grown just 20 minutes away in more "known" appellations.
