Winemaker's Notes:

35% Macabeo, 25% Xarel·lo, 40% Parellada. A Cava with an exceptional, fresh, fruity style and a lingering aroma. It is the perfect partner for the finest food and excellent at any time.
My Notes:

About Freixenet:

The Freixenet cava business started in 1914. Pere Ferrer Bosch was the son of "La Freixeneda", the family estate located in the Alt Penedès region since the XIIIth century. Right from the start they decided to produce only cava, a natural sparkling wine, following the method used in Champagne (France) for a couple of centuries. The cellars were set up in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Catalonia, Spain), a town situated in the heart of the Penedès region--already well-known from the era of the Roman Empire, for the quality of the wines produced there. In 1941, Freixenet launched what in time would become one of its leading products, the cava Carta Nevada and in 1974 the cava Cordon Negro.

Winemaker's Notes:

A Champagne House is eventually judged on the quality of its Brut Non Vintage. It is in the making of such a wine that the true Art of Champagne blending reveals itself.

This is an art in which the House of Veuve Clicquot excels. Our Brut Yellow Label reflects the superb vineyards we own and the consistent nature of our House style.

The predominance of Pinot Noir provides the structure that is so typically Clicquot, while a touch of Pinot Meunier rounds out the blend. Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse essential in a perfectly balanced wine.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Veuve Clicquot:

About Veuve Clicquot:

The House was founded by Philippe Clicquot in 1772. Since its inception, Veuve Clicquot has been a specialist in Champagnes based on Pinot Noir, especially Rosé. In 1803, François Clicquot was married to Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin. Madame Clicquot was widowed just two years later. Veuve Clicquot (Veuve means widow in French) took over her husband's business. In 1810, the house took the name Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. The way that she ran her company, from risky overseas ventures to startling technological innovations, changed Champagne forever. Her motto is still the guiding principle of our company – "Only one quality – the finest."

In 1816, Mme. Clicquot invented the process, called rémuage or riddling, that removes the yeast from the bottle. She used holes cut in her kitchen table to perfect the method of slowly tilting and turning the bottles to gather the spent yeast in the neck of the bottle. Once settled it could be removed by freezing the neck in a brine of salt and water, removing it, and recorking.

The company was taken public in 1963, and merged with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey in 1986. Today, Jacques Peters is the chief winemaker at Veuve Clicquot, and was appointed cellar master in 1985. He has undertaken an ambitious program since this time to upgrade the grape sources, improve the vineyards, and improve the cellars and production facilities.

PRICE ON 7/25/2014: $149.99

Winemaker's Notes:

The first hints of fresh almond and harvest aromas immediately open up into preserved lemon and dried fruits, the whole rounded off by darker smoky and toasted qualities. The presence of the wine on the palate is immediately captivating. Paradoxically concentrated yet creamy, it is energetic and warm in the mouth, focusing on the fruit, then gradually taking on more profound bass notes. The whole holds its note perfectly, intensively, with just a subtle, elegant hint of underlying bitterness.

Tribute to Any Warhol by Dom Perignon
Inspired by Warhol's unconventional representation of icons, and the playful use of codes and colour in his work, Dom Perignon commissioned the Design Laboratory at Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design to reinterpret its timeless bottle. The result is a unique collection of three bottles, each with its distinct label in red, blue or yellow, paying homage to Warhol's iconic colour games.

About Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola August 6, 1928. From an early age, Warhol showed an interest in photography and drawing. After attending Carnegie Mellon University, Warhol moved to New York and worked as an illustrator for several magazines including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker. In 1952 the artist had his first solo exhibition and four years later participated in his first group show exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art.
Appropriating images from popular culture, Warhol created many paintings that remain icons of 20th-century art including the Campbell's Soup Can, Marilyn and Elvis series. Warhol worked in a variety of mediums from painting to photography and in the eighties hosted his own talk-show on MTV.
Andy Warhol died February 22, 1987, firmly established as one of the most important artists of the 20th century.

Additional wines from Dom Perignon:

About Dom Perignon:

Dom Pérignon, a seventeeth-century cellarmaster of the Abbey of Hautvillers, is revered as the spiritual father of winemaking in the Champagne region. Keen observation, respect for nature, pragmatic creativity, technical innovation, the courage of his convictions, and patience were the instruments serving his vision. He constantly mastered and incorporated all its components and the stages of its production, from the vineyards themselves to the pressing and clarification of the wines and their preservation.

Dom Pérignon was the originator of new techniques for cultivating vines and making wine. These innovations spread rapidly throughout the region.

Today, Dom Pérignon is produced by France's largest Champagne house, Moët et Chandon. Dom Pérignon’s principle contribution in the 20th century has been its commitment to vintage years. In addition to the exclusive use of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from only the finest growths and vineyards, Dom Pérignon strictly limits itself to wines of the very best years, which have undergone long ageing.

The Dom Pérignon style is constructed by the Chef de Cave to create a range of sensations on the palate that reflect all the complexity of the structure, and the aromas and characteristics of the vintage.

PRICE ON 7/25/2014: $39.99

Winemaker's Notes:

Laurent-Perrier Brut L-P is the standard-bearer for the house style of Laurent-Perrier. Crisp, fresh and elegant, Brut L-P reflects the fundamental essence of our Champagnes.

The color is a pale golden hue, with fine and persistent bubbles. The nose is fresh and delicate, showing good complexity with hints of citrus and white fruit. Brut L-P's light style has led the way to making Champagne the ideal aperitif drink. Its perfect balance, crispness of flavors and finesse also make it the ideal companion for fish, poultry and white meat.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Laurent Perrier:

About Laurent Perrier:

Laurent-Perrier has been located at Tours-sur-Marne since its creation in 1812, placing it at the epicenter of three famous Champagne vineyards: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs. Since 1949, the House has climbed from 100th place worldwide to 4th place. The impulse behind this growth has come from Bernard de Nonancourt, a man with an ardent and courageous entrepreneurial spirit and the will to build a team around the ambition to create a unique brand.

Laurent-Perrier creates wines that give pleasure and are based on a solid savoir-faire. It was the first champagne House to introduce a large proportion of Chardonnay – a minority grape in the region – into the blend of its Brut L-P. Laurent-Perrier has also created other products, such as Cuvée Rosé Brut, a wine with a unique rosé color with the characteristic aromas of red berries. The House has also created Ultra-Brut, a natural brut (unsweetened) wine that requires the skill of subtle assemblage of high-quality grapes, since this wine can only be made from very mature grapes with low acid content.

Laurent-Perrier is a member of the prestigious Comité Colbert, which gathers together French luxury creators in all lines.

Additional wines from Heidsieck Monopole :

About Heidsieck Monopole :

Heidsieck & Co. Monopole is one of the oldest Champagne firms in all of France's Champagne region. The origins go back to the 18th century. Following in the footsteps of Florens-Louis Heidsieck, his nephew Henri-Louis Walbaum and brother-in-law Auguste Heidsieck created one of the most sought after Champagnes ever. In 1895, the firm already shipped over 1.5 million bottles worldwide. In 1818, Heidsieck was appointed suppliers of Champagne to the king of Prussia, emperor of Germany; in 1911, it was appointed suppliers of Champagne to the English court. In 1933, Heidsieck Champagne was featured at the Swedish court and at the table of Csar Nicolas II (the latter ordered over 400,000 bottles a year for his personal use).

Heidsieck's Champagne is very Pinot Noir-centric, with the varietal making up close to 70% in each bottle. The rest is a blend of Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
