Winemaker's Notes:

Ripe plum and black cherry fruit aromas followed by hints of mint and fresh herbs announce this delicious Pinot Noir. On the palate, this wine displays complexity and roundness with flavors of cherries jubilee and fresh berries followed by a lingering dry finish.

Delicious with duck breast, lamb chops, wild mushroom risotto, roast chicken or grilled salmon. Try Manchego or Fontina for the cheese course. Seasoning affinities include dried citrus peel and berries along with shaved fennel.

#36 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2011

Bright, deep ruby red color. A bouquet of dark berry fruit, a hint of cocoa and toasted almond, and tanned leather aroma. Perfectly balanced body, with concentration and freshness. Overall balance, solidly built with very well-developed tannins.

Additional wines from Terrabianca:

About Terrabianca:

The first document to mention Terrabianca is dated 1085: two centuries before Dante. Located just over 35 miles from Florence towards Siena, in the heart of Chianti Classico, its gently rolling country is much the same as it was in the Middle Ages. The Guldeners have 'only' been here since 1987; although in this relatively short period of time, they have propelled the estate to the highest quality levels, entirely restoring the seventeenth-century homestead, constructing a brand new winery, and restructuring the Terrabianca range.

In 1997, the couple purchased a second property, some 44 miles southwest of the original Terrabianca nucleus: Il Tesoro di Terrabianca ("Treasure of Terrabianca"). Its 262 acres bring the Guldeners' total acreage to 334, and are a mere 6 miles from the sea, in Maremma - the new frontier of Tuscan viniculture. This recent acquisition focuses on the olive oils (from over 4,000 Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olive trees, many of which some 300 years old!) and Sangiovese grapes that go into a youthful and appealing 100% varietal, La Fonte. Packaging and label for this wine (see photo) have been kept distinct from the rest of the line, although the product itself is also styled by Vittorio Fiore, Terrabianca wine-maker from day one.

Winemaker's Notes:

2010 Ghost Pines Red Blend has a dark purple color that alludes to the intense blueberry, licorice and cracked pepper aromas that are framed by hints of toast and cocoa powder. Flavors of syrupy black cherry, blackberry and blueberry and brown spice meld with velvety tannins, creating a rich mouthfeel and a long, plush finish.

Blend: 42% Petite Sirah, 28% Zinfandel, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 1% Syrah

Beautiful deep red in color. Complex and rounded, with the notes of wild herbs, spices and red fruits. The Grenache grape is, vinified at low temperature and raised in new oak barrels for twelve months, to express the freshness of the black fruits and licorice.

Serve at with roast red meats, stews, stilton & Camembert cheese.

Deep, powerful wine redolent of tar, violets, licorice, and black cherries, all of which come together on a powerful, focused frame. Round sweet and polished through to the finish, the La Vina shows off considerable class and pedigree. All it needs is more time in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018.
My Notes:

About Samsara:

Samsara is a Sanskrit word meaning the eternal cycle of life. The world we live in now. One of passion, oneness and harmony. This idea is key to the philosophy of Chad and Mary Melville's Samsara wines. Chad and Mary produce limited releases of Pinot Noir and Syrah from micro-sites within carefully selected vineyards.

As the first American sparking wine venture by a French Champagne house (Moet & Chandon), Domaine Chandon has been a leader in sparkling wine production since 1973. Bringing hundreds of years of winemaking tradition and experience to the Napa Valley, Chandon's principal achievement has been to craft a range of sparkling wines that reflect California's vibrant regional character, yet remain true to the practices of methode traditionnelle. In 1990, the winery parlayed its experience with the classic Champagne varieties into an exciting varietal wine collection. Domaine Chandon continually strives to seek new ways to heighten its reputation as the fullest hospitality experience in Napa Valley, and to provide its guests with inspiration to entertain with Chandon at home.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2000 'Aprile' has a spicy perfume of cinnamon, anise and leather from the small barrel aging that integrate with the varietal aromas of cherry, plum and dried Mediterranean herbs. On the palate the aromas translate into a similar flavor profile that expand into a rich fruit character that hints of currant, black cherry and raspberry which is supported by the ripe tannins. For our interpretation of a 'Super Tuscan' we have blended Sangiovese with ~5% Cabernet Sauvignon to craft a wine with a deep ruby color, complexity and long, broad finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

To make a wine of greatness, the vintner must accept losses in both grapes and wine due to strict quality standards similar to the very best crus in Bordeaux. Two significant frosts in spring of 2008 affected grapevine growth, lowering grape cluster yields as much as 20% per vine. A wine that captures the heart of Jordan's style—balance, elegance and full expression of fruit—Jordan 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon has a smooth, silky structure that showcases the delicacy of the vintage. Elegant aromas of cherries and plums open to a soft, silky mouthfeel boasting a spectrum of red and black fruit flavors with a hint of spicy oak. Enjoy now or cellar through 2020.

My Notes:

Additional wines from MacMurray Ranch:

About MacMurray Ranch:

MacMurray Ranch was purchased from the Porter family by famed actor Fred MacMurray in 1941. Fred raised his family on the ranch and they enjoyed the natural wonders of Sonoma County. Today, the ranch looks much as it did a century ago, surrounded by rail fences and framed by oak and redwood groves. Only now it is home to some of Sonoma County's finest vineyards. Aside from being beautiful, the Russian River Valley is among the premier growing regions for Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. MacMurray Ranch speaks to the legacy of the land by crafting wines from this appellation with elegance and finesse.

The wines of MacMurray Ranch are crafted with care by winemaker Susan Doyle, who has a patient, gentle approach that gets the best out of Pinot Noir and its cousin Pinot Gris. Susan is guiding the wines of MacMurray Ranch to achieve both depth and the finely nuanced range of flavors that expresses the nature of the place where they were born. With her university studies in both winegrowing and winemaking, Susan makes wines that reflect the old Burgundian sense of "terroir", the special qualities that weather, land, and the hand of man that give her wines their individual distinction.
