 A blend of Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

The 2006 growing season was characterized by even ripening conditions resulting in a balanced set crop. Favorable weather, long hang time and a smooth harvest yielded intensely concentrated flavors. Primus 2006 combines striking rich, ripe fruit, exotic spice and a round mouth feel with elegant tannins, leading to a long finish.

About Primus:

 Primus wines are produced by the Veramonte winery. Veramonte represents a return to Agustin Huneeus' Chilean roots. When he spearheaded development of the Veramonte Estate in 1990, there were less than 100 acres of grapevines planted in the Casablanca Valley.

The coastal mountain ranges surrounding the Casablanca estate create a unique terroir with a diversity of microclimates. The valley floor's cool climate is reminiscent of Carneros and ideal for growing premium Chardonnay. The foothills are warmer, akin to the more Northern reaches of the Napa Valley. Here, the climate is more suited to varieties like Carmenëre, the lost Bordeaux grape that has become Chile's citizen and the basis of Primus, our racy, exotic Chilean blend.

Using the latest viticultural technology developed in California, rootstock has been matched to each vineyard block and clone. Vertical trellising and dense vine spacing balance growth and fruit production. Veramonte's Casablanca vineyard produces significantly lower yields than other grape growing regions in Chile, resulting in grapes with more intensity and concentration.

Recognizing that the region also had potential as a tourist destination for its proximity to Santiago, Huneeus began to plant the estate and in 1995, constructed the first Napa Valley style hospitality center in Chile. The first wines were released in 1996.

Winemaker's Notes:

 Each year, Oakley Five Reds is a unique red blend that is easy drinking and medium bodied with the spicy berry flavors that want in their Zinfandels. The Rhone varietals add pepper, cherry and dark fruit character. The wine has smooth tannins and luscious fruit and should age well into the future.

The 2006 is a blend of 74% Merlot, 7% Barbera, 6% Cabernet Franc, 3% Syrah, and 1% Mourvèdre. Flavors of blackberries, black pepper and a delicate green olive note which makes this wine an excellent accompaniment to spicy western grub or tomato-based dishes. Round up your posse and enjoy!

 Fred Cline founded Cline Cellars in 1982, in Oakley, California. In 1991, the winery facilities relocated to the Sonoma Valley on a 350 acre estate in the Carneros District. The Cline Brothers, Fred and Matt, are Zinfandel and Rhone varietal specialists. Their holdings include some of the oldest and rarest vines in California. They are best known for the one hundred year old plantings of Carignane, Mourvedre and Zinfandel grapes they farm in Oakley, California. The Mourvedre represent approximately 85% of the state's total supply of this fascinating and versatile varietal. This treasure is the inspiration for Cline Cellars many "Rhone style" bottlings.

 This is Francis Coppola's second year producing Diamond Collection Cabernet Sauvignon. For a decade they've bottled Claret — a robust red blend largely comprised of Cabernet — but they wanted to offer a single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon as well in order to show off the elegance of their grapes.

The 2006 growing season was long and cool, allowing the grapes to hang on the vine weeks longer than usual. As a result, this wine has immense concentration, rich color, and profuse aromatics that give way to layers of enduring flavor.

Winemaker's Notes:

 Washington State's long growing season of warm days and cool nights provides ideal conditions for producing Syrah. Washington Syrahs exhibit dark, juicy fruit character, brilliant color, a complex varietal herbaceousness, and a relatively low tannin level. The Genesis Syrah is sourced from carefully selected vineyards to emphasize luscious fruit, elegant balance, and complexity. The 2005 vintage opens with aromas of cherry, wild berry, and cinnamon, with a touch of mango, nectarine, and tobacco. On the palate are avors of black cherry, blueberry, and warm Chai spices, with a hint of smoke. The wine is full and rich in the mouth with a long, silkyfinish.

With such a complex flavor profile, this Syrah pairs well with a wide variety of foods: from chicken chili to beef stew, barbecued ribs and hamburgers to roast beef, as well as more sophisticated dishes featuring grilled or roasted filet mignon, venison, lamb or duck.

Winemaker's Notes:

 This wine is ruby/crimson in color, with purple tints. The nose shows intensely complex characters of rosemary, mint and coffee. This is followed up on the palate by an eruption of fruit flavors — primarily black cherry and blackberry, with hints of mocha and dried herbs. The tannins are fine grained and supple and the wine has a long, integrated finish.

As with previous releases of "The Cover Drive", the wine displays harmonious balance and can be enjoyed now or will reward cellaring for 2-3 years.
