Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2010 Ménage à Trois Rose is the epitome of a good rosé. No pretension, no pretense. Just a fruit-laden roller coaster ride of raspberries, strawberries, lychee nuts and flowers with a silky smooth finish. A medium weighted palate with a cocktail of citrus and tropical flavors.

About Menage a Trois:

Given the choice, would you rather be a party of one…or a Ménage à Trois? In a blended wine, the different varietals each bring something to the table, making for a more complex, delicious wine. As a master chef uses different ingredients to achieve the perfect recipe, a winemaker skillfully selects and blends different grape varieties to create harmonious and intriguing wines. With each of our playful blends of three, there's no doubt that the whole is greater (and more fun) than the sum of its parts.

Additional wines from La Vieille Ferme:

About La Vieille Ferme:

Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.

Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value.

Winemaker's Notes:

Blue Suede Chardonnay channels the youthful 1950s Elvis at the outset of his singing career – fitting because Chardonnay grapes are picked early in the harvest season. Its fresh, vibrant personality boasts lovely tropical fruit aromas followed by crisp, lingering apple and pear flavors.

In the glass, this medium bodied Chardonnay exhibits tropical fruit aromas, followed by pear and melon flavors all wrapped up with a juicy, full finish.

This refreshing Chardonnay complements a wide range of foods including roasted chicken, grilled fish, mild cheeses and pasta with light cream sauces.

Additional wines from La Maialina:

About La Maialina:

La Maialina celebrates the history, culture and cuisine of Chianti, prized since antiquity for its rich soil and favorable climate. Rolling hillsides lend themselves to the optimal cultivation of the Sangiovese grape, ripening to perfection during the dry, warm summers. The La Maialina wines express the essence of Tuscany and the tradition of quality that defines this historic region. The name La Maialina (little pig) references the Cinta Senese heirloom breed that originated in the Siena area during the 1300’s and is the only Tuscan native pig to survive extinction. Produced by the revered Attilio Pagli, La Maialina Chianti, Chianti Classico, and Chianti Classico Riserva are crafted to express the essence of the territory and tradition of quality of this historic region. Settled first by Etruscan then the Romans, the earliest documentation of a “Chianti wine” dates back to the 13th century when viticulture was known to flourish in the “Chianti Mountains” around Florence. The Chianti denomination was first delimited in 1932 by ministerial decree and its boundaries have remained unchanged.

My Notes:

About Freixenet:

The Freixenet cava business started in 1914. Pere Ferrer Bosch was the son of "La Freixeneda", the family estate located in the Alt Penedès region since the XIIIth century. Right from the start they decided to produce only cava, a natural sparkling wine, following the method used in Champagne (France) for a couple of centuries. The cellars were set up in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Catalonia, Spain), a town situated in the heart of the Penedès region--already well-known from the era of the Roman Empire, for the quality of the wines produced there. In 1941, Freixenet launched what in time would become one of its leading products, the cava Carta Nevada and in 1974 the cava Cordon Negro.

Wonderful value in Rose - perfect for summer! Its color is an intense peony pink . Its bouquet is very aromatic, exhaling scents of small red fruits such as raspberries or blackcurrants. In the mouth there is a perfect balance between vivacity and mellowness. The final taste is very long, leaving an delicate impression of fruitiness.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Chateau de Campuget:

About Chateau de Campuget:

Château de Campuget in Costieres de Nimes is a beautiful wine property dating back to 1640. The soil is typical for the region, with many stones that force roots to find water deep in the lower layers of clay, contributing additional character to the wine. The property is managed by Jean-Lin Dalle, assisted by his son Franck-Lin, named after one of Jean-Lin's heroes, Benjamin Franklin. Château de Campuget which has belonged to the Dalle family since 1941, produces AOC Costieres de Nimes wines.

BELIEFS: The Dalle family makes every effort to produce wines that are true to the "terroir" of the Costieres de Nimes.

NOTES: Château de Campuget wines are produced by respecting tradition while utilizing the most modern oenological techniques. Although equipped with stainless-steel tanks and modern tools, wines are made and matured in a traditional way, and quality is strictly controlled from the vineyard to the bottle. Chateau De Campuget's main varieties are Syrah and Grenache Noir for the grapevines classified in AOC. For white wines, the company uses Roussanne and Grenache Blanc in Costieres de Nimes and Chardonnay in Vin de Pays.

Smoking Loon Chardonnay 2008
Smoking Loon Chardonnay 2008
(search item no. 105275)

PRICE ON 7/31/2014: $8.98

Winemaker's Notes:

Creamy, bright aromas of vanilla bean poached pear and fresh brioche bread waft out of the glass, with a slight hint of nutmeg in the background. Full of flavor on the palate, Meyer lemon, caramel apple, and smoky vanilla oak are all tightly intertwined. The four unique California appellations in this blend contribute balanced citrus acidity, fruit avor, and oak nuance to this Chardonnay. A touch of tangerine peel shows on the mid-palate, while lemon meringue lingers in the complex finish. Medium-bodied overall, 75% of this wine went through malolactic fermentation before aging for 9 months on the lees of the grapes for added depth and roundness.

The mellow acidity and balance of toast and citrus in this Chardonnay make it a great wine to stand alone or pair nicely with food. A chicken sandwich with grilled pineapple would complement this wine well, as would a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. For people who appreciate wine without the pretense, Smoking Loon is the full-bodied California varietal wine that celebrates independent character and a Bohemian personality by going beyond a single plot of land or a château, to explore the best vineyards in each vintage through our négociant relationships.

60% Pinot Nior, 40% Trepat

Beautiful scents of raspberry and cherry on the nose with fresh, clean strawberry and cherry flavors in the mouth and a consistent bead. The finish is clean and crisp and invites another sip.

Cristalino Brut Rose Cava is an excellent match for fried appetizers such as calamari or light desserts such as creme brulee. It is also excellent on its own or with fresh fruit.

Did you get a bottle with a gold label rather than this white label? No worries, it's still the same great Cava. Cristalino is undergoing a label change and released some bottles with the original packaging and some with the white label packaging.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Jaume Serra Cristalino:

About Jaume Serra Cristalino:

The winery behind Cristalino, Jaume Serra, was founded in 1943 by distinguished enologist Jaume Serra Guell. It is located in the Garraf subdivision of the Denominacion de Origen Penedés, the largest wine growing area in Catalonia. Jaume Serra lies within the “El Padruel” estate in the Mediterranean Coastal town of Vilanova y la Geltru, some 50 kilometers south of Barcelona,. Wine making began on this property in 1947. The winery underwent renovations in 1984 and then again in 1997, after the J. García Carrión family purchased the property.

The white varietals of Parellada, Chardonnay, Macabeo and Xarel-lo are grown in Jaume Serra's vineyards situated in the Alt Penedés, a sub region of the Penedés, and are used to produce the area's famous sparkling wines, called "Cava". By law, Cava must be made in the Methode Champenois or Champagne Method. Due to European regulations prohibiting use of that term, Cava is now labeled as Methode Tradicional, which has the same requirements with an added stipulation that cava must age for a minimum of nine months on the lees before release. After researching local yeasts, the Jaume Serra winery has taken the extraordinary step of importing their yeast from Champagne, France in order to impart the finest quality to their Cavas.
