Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 Edizione Pennino Zinfandel is dark and lush, with jammy extraction and profuse aromas of pomegranate, plums, chocolate and spice. Bright, juicy flavors of blackberries and cherries are accented by hints of white pepper and nutmeg, a note of mocha and vanilla nuances, which are derived from the oak.

Blend: 92% Zinfandel, 6% Petite Sirah and 2% Primitivo

My Notes:

About Inglenook:

In 1879, Finnish explorer and adventurer Gustave Niebaum searched the Napa Valley with the goal of establishing a wine estate to rival the finest chateau of France. For decades his wines won acclaim and remain some of the most admired in American wine history's classic period. By the mid-1960's, his property was divided, and estate-wine production ceased.

A decade later, Francis Ford Coppola purchased 1,500 acres of this historic property and revived Captain Niebaum's fine winemaking tradition. In 1995, Niebaum-Coppola acquired the remainder of the property and restored the Inglenook Estate to its original dimensions.

Winemaker's Notes:

This amazingly well endowed profoundly rich red wine must be smelled and tasted to be believed. The color is a rich, deep purple garnet and gives but a small hint as to what's inside. The nose gives off soaring and wonderfully focused aromas of ripe stone fruit, vanilla, cherries, cedar cigar box, blackberries and cinnamon. In the mouth, there are layers upon layers of broad, sweet opulent fruit balanced by firm tannins, great acidity and oak.

This wine truly showcases the potential of blending and is a must have.

Winemaker's Notes:

No wine better depicts the extraordinary range of Cabernet Sauvignon expression from Alexander Mountain Estate than this one. Meticulously considered block selection from all elevations is the key: the mid-mountain blocks (700-1,100 ft.) provide floral and spice aromatics, flesh and vivid red fruit while the higher blocks (1,200-2,400 ft.) offer a black mineral streak and the etched structural backbone for which this wine is so well known.
My Notes:

About Stonestreet:

In the autumn of 1989, Jess Jackson acquired the Zellerbach winery and renamed it in honor of his late father, Jess Stonestreet Jackson. Stonestreet quickly garnered international acclaim for their powerful reds and luscious whites.

Today, Stonestreet wines are undergoing a transformation, using fruit from Alexander Mountain Estate and new winemaking techniques. Alexander Mountain Estate, with lean, well-draining soils and cooler temperature, produces fruit with smaller berries and more intense color and flavor. Stonestreet is dedicated to fulfilling the promise of Alexander Valley's exceptional and distinctive vineyards. Traditional, Old World methods of hand harvesting, small barrel lot production, native yeast fermentation and bottling each wine unfiltered brings out the best in specific grape varieties and provides the quality framework for each Stonestreet wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

Deep reddish purple with aromas of bright berry/cherry fruit. Like swallowing a whole bowl of mixed ripe berries at once. Big body yet very balanced, with luscious layers of raspberry, cherry, and cocoa flavors. Just a hint of baking spice at the end brings it all together. Pairs well with grilled meats such as beef and pork, smoked ham, and even pizza with meat toppings. Incredibly fun to drink! About Tikal:

Tikal is owned by Ernesto Catena and is named after his son. Ernesto spent his childhood in the vineyards of Mendoza among wine-growers and local pundits. Since then, he has experienced a kaleidoscope of cultures, living in New York, Buenos Aires, Berkeley, Cambridge (MA), Milan and London. But his heart remains in his homeland of Argentina (where he now lives), with its natural beauty of mountains, streams and vineyards, its wines, and its people who hold a special passion for living.

There are few wine brands that reflect the sensibilities of their owner more than Tikal. A skilled horseman, fashion designer, software developer, and book editor, Ernesto pursues all that gives pleasure in life. This hedonism (in the best sense of the word) shows through in the wines. It is a style meant to provide enormous pleasure rather than provoke contemplation; an expression of emotion rather than intellect. He has named his wines with passion in mind: Patriota (Patriot), Corazon (Heart), Amorio (Love Affair), Jubilo (Rejoice).

Luis Reginato is the winemaker at Tikal as of the 2002 vintage. Luis is young, but is already a highly trained and respected vineyard consultant and winemaker with long experience at his family's winery in Mendoza. Truly an up and coming talent, Luis and his wines are already garnering high praise from U.S. wine critics. Definitely a winemaker to watch.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2009 Hartford Vineyard's low-yielding vines produce elegant Zinfandel characterized by a sumptuous and velvety texture. Boysenberry, anise and allspice aromas transition into ripe black raspberry and mulberry flavors with a cinnamon stick finish. Well-integrated tannins juxtapose juicy flavors and an opulent texture.
My Notes:

About Hartford:

Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast.

Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of the Hartford family's vineyard sources, the limited production of their bottlings and the varietals they use. "Character through adversity" is an expression that the Hartford family believes to apply to both people and grapevines, and they feel that surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both. The Hartford Family makes wines under two marks, Hartford Court and Hartford.

Winemaker's Notes:

Blackberry, anise and mineral aromas with suggestions of mulberry and briary spice against a toasted oak background; big on the palate, rich and broad with velvety fruit, supple tannin and a clean finish. Not simply a "fruit bomb" like many California Zins, this wine shows the firmness and freshness which are hallmarks of high-elevation fruit.
My Notes:

About Miraflores:

Nestled in a quiet canyon in the mountainous Sierra Foothills stand the breathtaking vineyards of Miraflores Winery. The vineyards are the soul of the winery. Each vineyard is cultivated to infuse its natural characteristics into every bottle. The commitment to excellence continues in the winemaking artistry for each small-lot production. Miraflores Winery strives to emulate the old world tradition of crafting memorable wines, while also being attentive to the creation of gracious surroundings.
