Winemaker's Notes:

Sandalwood, hazelnut, and powdered cocoa spicy aromas waft around a core of plum and dark stone fruit. Lively black plum and blueberry flavors transition seamlessly to a walnut, toasted almond finish. This elegantly balanced will continue to bring pleasure for years to come.

Additional wines from Conn Creek Winery:

About Conn Creek Winery:

Conn Creek was founded in 1973 and immediately established itself as one of Napa Valley's premier Cabernet houses with the release of its 1974 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery name comes from its location, next to Conn Creek near the Rutherford Crossroad that connects the Silverado Trail with Highway 29. Conn Creek specializes in limited production Bordeaux varietal wines exclusively from Napa Valley’s best vineyards. Present production remains at fewer than 6500 case per year.

This wine also available as part of the Hess and Gourmet Food Pairing Set

A soft entry, with ripe plum and raspberry in the forefront, is supported by background flavors of tobacco and caramel, which add complexity to this imminently drinkable wine.

Pair with any dish incorporating sweet peppers, caramelized onions or roasted Portobello mushrooms, a hearty bacon burger with blue cheese, barbecued shrimp, mild blue cheeses and cheddar cheese.

Additional wines from The Hess Collection:

About The Hess Collection:

The Hess Collection was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess, who first purchased vineyards on Mount Veeder in 1978 and began making wine under The Hess Collection label in 1983. In 1986, he began renovation of the historic winery, originally constructed in 1903 by Colonel Theodore Gier. The winery opened to the public in 1989. The Hess Collection has vineyards on Mount Veeder, along with their Napa Valley estate vineyards - Su'skol and Allomi in Napa Valley, and Shirtail Creek Vineyard in Monterey. Each of these vineyards is sustainably farmed in accordance with Donald's philosophy: "Nurture the land, return what you take."

Winemaker's Notes:

The soul of Cabernet Sauvignon, many believe, lies in Napa Valley.

Wines from these grapes taste richer, fuller and have legendary regional characteristics such as cherry or dusty nuances. Is it the weather, the soil, the sun, we aren't sure.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Avalon:

About Avalon:

Like the Indie films that inspired Avalon, our wines are original and uncut. We focus on the essence of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. We differentiate ourselves by producing flavorful wines at a decent price. We specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon and just recently branched out with our first release of Merlot from the 2009 vintage.

Avalon - AKA Paradise. According to Arthurian legend, the town of Glastonbury in the U.K. was once known as Avalon. Avalon has long been associated with paradise. It is a land of souls. Many believe that King Arthur's soul rests there and will some day rise again to defend England.

Our wines don't cost a king's ransom, but that's exactly what our Winemaker Alex Cose used to make. We joke with him and say, "Make us a wine that tastes like $75, and then let's sell it for about $15".

Winemaker's Notes:

The 1990 vintage of this wine was ranked #7 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 1993

To the eye the wine displays a deep ruby red. The aromas include bold cassis with ripe layers of black plum and dark cherries, complemented with complex notes of clove, molasses, bay, and vanilla.

On the palate, the wine has a full and dense mouthfeel with rich, velvety tannins. Flavors of blackberry, cocoa, tobacco, mocha, and cassis fill the palate with generous body and supple texture.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Mount Veeder Winery:

About Mount Veeder Winery:

Mount Veeder Winery is a dramatic estate with three vineyards carved high in the hillsides of the Mayacamas Mountains, overlooking southern Napa Valley. The property totals 121 acres, mostly forest and brush, out of which only 47 are planted to vine.

Vines ranging from 1,000–1,600 feet in elevation cling to rugged, steep slopes that offer cool conditions that lead to slow ripening, which extends the growing season. Mount Veeder is usually the last to harvest in Napa Valley. The result is fruit with highly concentrated flavors - big, bold and brambly - a Cab lover's feast.

Mount Veeder Winery was the first in Napa Valley to plant all five red Bordeaux varieties in the same vineyard. Its expertise with these grapes is manifest in Mount Veeder Winery Reserve, a meritage blend of these noble grapes, which are still grown on the property.

Additional wines from Pascual Toso :

About Pascual Toso :

When in the mid 1880s Pascual Toso set out towards Argentina from its home town, Canale D’Alba, in Piamonte, Italy, he could not have imagined that he would become the founder of a winery, which is today one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Argentina.

When he arrived in Argentina, he settled in Mendoza. As he had been closely involved in the development of his family wine business in Piedmont, he promptly saw the promising future for winemaking in the region and decided to use his expertise. Thus, in 1890, Pascual Toso established his first winery in San José, Guaymallén.

At the beginning of the 20th century, he decided to expand his business and acquired vineyards in Maipú. At his estate “Las Barrancas”, he built another winery, “Las Barrancas” (small Canyon) which is dedicated to producing and growing the finest grapes.

In 2001, the Bodega hired as winemaker consultant to Mr. Paul Hobbs for a new high quality wine project. He has been working head to head with our chief winemaker, Rolando Luppino, on the development of premium and super-premium wines. Today, Pascual Toso still makes wines of high quality under the most exigent procedures and rules. The Trophy for Best Argentine Producer awarded by the IWSC (London) in 2007 reflects this commitment to quality.

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry-like fruit aromas with cedar overtones highlight the dense, ripe fruit flavors and elegant finish of this wine. Aged in small oak barrels, this Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with small amounts of other Bordeaux-style varietals that help to accentuate its complexity. This wine complements most cheeses and strongly flavored foods, such as roast lamb and chicken.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Sterling Vineyards:

About Sterling Vineyards:

Sterling Vineyards was born in the 1960s, a time when creativity and entrepreneurial spirit abounded, especially in California. In 1964, Peter Newton, once a paper broker in England, purchased 70 acres of land in Calistoga and became a Napa Valley winemaker. He planted grapes others did not, bottled varietals others did not, and built a dramatic winery with an aerial tramway. His innovations put Sterling Vineyards into the public eye and helped establish the Napa Valley as a premier travel destination.

When Newton began planting his estate, Cabernet Sauvignon was the preferred variety. He planted the esteemed Cabernet, but his decision to also plant Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot was a bold move. His Merlot vines were the first significant planting of that variety in the Napa Valley. Newton saw potential in the soft, velvety Merlot fruit, and in 1969 he took a chance by releasing California's first vintage-dated Merlot. This decision flew in the face of traditional standards, which held that Merlot was merely a blending grape, and forever changed the perception of red wine. People started to enter a restaurant and ask for a glass of Merlot!

About Château Cambon La Pelouse:

The property of Cambon La Pelouse is situated between Cantemerle and Giscours at one of the highest points of Macau. It borders the property of Labarde, from which it is separated by only a small country path.

Cambon La Pelouse is known for uniting aroma and delicacy with stability and fullness and, as it is one of the oldest vineyards in the region, it has largely contributed to giving Medoc wines their reputation.

In June 2003, it was elevated to a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 1996 vintage of this wine was ranked #1 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 1999

This is a classic Cinq Cepages with signature notes of blackberry jam, red raspberry, milk chocolate and violet. The palate offers a rich, dark fruit density surrounded by well-structured tannins. Layers of generous black plum and fresh-picked blackberries combine with notes of black tea and mocha. This wine has beautiful oak integration and a lushness throughout that leads to a lingering finish with hints of blackberry and clove.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Chateau St. Jean:

About Chateau St. Jean:

Chateau St. Jean is a winemaking estate located at the foot of the Sugarloaf Ridge in Sonoma Valley near Kenwood, California. Founded in 1973, Chateau St. Jean has long been recognized as a leader in Vineyard Designated wines. Winemaker Steve Reeder has built a reputation for making wines of power and elegance. With over 20 years of vineyard and winemaking experience, his knowledge of Sonoma makes him a master in highlighting the best of each vineyard. Winemaker's Notes:

Swirl our 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon in the glass to fully open its generous plum, black cherry, cassis and black mission-fig aromas and flavors. You'll find mineral, tobacco, spice, licorice and saddle leather nuances adding complexity to the deep, dark-fruit expression. Smooth tannins structure the wine and enhance its rich, velvety texture, while integrated oak spices linger on the fruit-imbued finish. Blended from some of our finest estate vineyard blocks, this wine is a superb example of the quality of fruit coming off our 20-year-old vines here in eastern Washington's Columbia River Valley.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Canoe Ridge Vineyard:

About Canoe Ridge Vineyard:

Canoe Ridge Vineyard's estate vineyard, uniquely sited at a broad section of the Columbia River in eastern Washington, produces grapes of uncommon quality. The vast river moderates temperatures, prolonging the grapes' time on the vines during summer days, which are longer at this northern latitude, while protecting the vines from hard freezes in the winter. Sheltering ridges limit wind damage and hold warmth around the vines. The grapes from this vineyard are as unique as the area, with layers of concentrated fruit and lush, supple texture.

The winery uses traditional French cellar practices, such as small-lot fermentation, gentle handling and French oak barrels, to enhance the fruit. To allow the best expression of each lot, the winemaker tailors the yeast strains, barrel selection and fermentation practices to complement the many different dimensions of the fruit. The winery is known for its unique Merlot, which displays the traditional elegant, classic flavors of Bordeaux Merlot, yet has the suppleness of Pinot Noir.
