Winemaker's Notes:

Clos Du Val's flagship estate wine, the 2007 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet in color with complex aromas of ripe black fruit, cocoa, vanilla and a hint of dried herbs. The wine has a rich, entry, and concentrated mid-palate, filling the mouth with black fruit, spice and a hint of cocoa on the finish. With its velvety-smooth tannins and elegant structure, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of Stags Leap District terroir. The finish is long and lingering. Enjoy now or cellar for at least 10+ years.

About Clos du Val Wine Co.:

Clos Du Val, French for "small vineyard estate of a small valley," was founded in 1972 in the now legendary Stags Leap District by Franco-American entrepreneur John Goelet. After a worldwide search to purchase vineyard properties from which to craft world-class wines, 150 acres in Stags Leap and 180 acres in Carneros were chosen, solidifying Clos Du Val's iconic stature and formidable place in Napa Valley history.

Today, for Clos Du Val Winemaker Kristy Melton, it is the bounty from these renowned vineyards that acts as the foundation for the distinctive, terroir-driven wines of balance and elegance for which Clos Du Val is known.

Winemaker's Notes:

A cumulative expression of this renowned growing region, our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon offers expressive character and appealing charm. Intense aromas of sweet cassis and black currant open the nose and are joined by gentle, well-integrated oak notes and suggestive hints of violet and black pepper. On the palate, long, ripe flavors of dark fruit are flanked by clove, cocoa and vanilla, with supple tannins and a long, smooth finish. Pair this gracious wine with grilled meats or hearty pastas.

Additional wines from Sterling Vineyards:

About Sterling Vineyards:

Sterling Vineyards was born in the 1960s, a time when creativity and entrepreneurial spirit abounded, especially in California. In 1964, Peter Newton, once a paper broker in England, purchased 70 acres of land in Calistoga and became a Napa Valley winemaker. He planted grapes others did not, bottled varietals others did not, and built a dramatic winery with an aerial tramway. His innovations put Sterling Vineyards into the public eye and helped establish the Napa Valley as a premier travel destination.

When Newton began planting his estate, Cabernet Sauvignon was the preferred variety. He planted the esteemed Cabernet, but his decision to also plant Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot was a bold move. His Merlot vines were the first significant planting of that variety in the Napa Valley. Newton saw potential in the soft, velvety Merlot fruit, and in 1969 he took a chance by releasing California's first vintage-dated Merlot. This decision flew in the face of traditional standards, which held that Merlot was merely a blending grape, and forever changed the perception of red wine. People started to enter a restaurant and ask for a glass of Merlot!

Winemaker's Notes:

Dense color with a red cherry hue Aromas of plum, chocolate and cherry pie accentuated by hints of violet, clove, cinnamon spice and vanilla bean. Bright red fruit flavors of Bing cherry, strawberry and raspberry, contrasted by dark and compelling layers of blueberry, mocha and molasses. Great structure with smooth, fine tannins, a black pepper mid-palate and long nutmeg and red currant finish.

Blend: 64% Zinfandel, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Paraduxx:

About Paraduxx:

Paraduxx is an uncommon blend of Zinfandel, California's resident grape, and the classic Bordeaux varietals of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Following in the tradition of "Super-Tuscan" wines of Italy, Paraduxx showcases the excellence of Napa Valley grapes in a unique way. Zinfandel has a history of success in Napa Valley's temperate climate and well-drained soils. We source our Zinfandel fruit from warmer growing regions with mature vines that produce concentrated, flavorful berries.

Paraduxx is an ideal wine to pair with a variety of foods, particularly, traditional Mediterranean-style fare of light pasta dishes and grilled meats. We use French and American oak cooperage for the Zinfandel to accentuate the fruitiness and to add a dimension of toast and vanilla. The Bordeaux varieties are aged in traditional French cooperage.

Paraduxx and Duckhorn Wine Company support conservation of the wetlands of the Pacific flyway.
