Winemaker's Notes:

Rich yellow color and becoming more golden with age. Inviting fruit aromas of honeydew, yellow peach and fig are supported by vanilla and caramel. Creamy vanilla integrates with honeysuckle, pineapple and apricot for a fabulous richness on the palate. A luscious mouthfeel leads to a generous and creamy finish. Pleasantly voluptuous from a cooler vintage.

Our favorite pairing for this wine includes salmon fettuccine with peas, burrata cheese with arugula salad, roasted turkey, and fried green tomatoes.

About Rombauer Vineyards:

Rombauer Vineyards was founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley. The winery features caves that extend for over a mile into the hillside. The caves provide a constant temperature and humidity which result in optimum conditions for aging our wines.

Rombauer wines are consistently ranked high in the wine trade journals. Many of the finest restaurants throughout the country include Rombauer wines on their list and feature them by the glass. The joy of wine is something that's important to Rombauer. Whether you are a collector of fine wines or like to have wine with food, wine is something that truly should be enjoyed. Rombauer Vineyards puts a lot of hard work and tender care into making drinkable wines. And because wine is a simple product to enjoy, emphasis is given to taking the mystique out of enjoying fine wines.

Our emphasis on the joy of wine comes from the heritage of the Rombauer family. Koerner's ancestors made wine in the famous Rheingau region in Germany and his great aunt, Irma Rombauer, wrote the book The Joy of Cooking. Hence our focus on wine as complements to good food and good friends. Every family member is actively involved in the day to day operation of the winery from selecting grapes for the winemaking process and getting the wine to market.

Winemaker's Notes:

A feat of complexity, perfumed and profound, the 2006 Mount Veeder Reserve presents layer upon layer of wild mountain berry, plum, and forest floor aromas wrapped in notes of sage, mocha, clove, and bay. Romantic and brooding on the nose, with hints of cassis and violets, this Reserve brings a lush, bold mouthfeel with further notes of vanilla and dark chocolate on the palate. The full-bodied, integrated tannins lend robust structure that extends into a lengthy, infinitely expressive finish.

Additional wines from Mount Veeder Winery:

About Mount Veeder Winery:

Mount Veeder Winery is a dramatic estate with three vineyards carved high in the hillsides of the Mayacamas Mountains, overlooking southern Napa Valley. The property totals 121 acres, mostly forest and brush, out of which only 47 are planted to vine.

Vines ranging from 1,000–1,600 feet in elevation cling to rugged, steep slopes that offer cool conditions that lead to slow ripening, which extends the growing season. Mount Veeder is usually the last to harvest in Napa Valley. The result is fruit with highly concentrated flavors - big, bold and brambly - a Cab lover's feast.

Mount Veeder Winery was the first in Napa Valley to plant all five red Bordeaux varieties in the same vineyard. Its expertise with these grapes is manifest in Mount Veeder Winery Reserve, a meritage blend of these noble grapes, which are still grown on the property.

Winemaker's Notes:

This crisp and fresh Chardonnay opens with aromas of orange blossom, lemon oil and toasted brioche with sweet cream apple butter. "Medium" on the richness scale, KARIA charms with its balance of ripe fruit, understated barrel spice, mouth-filling texture and refreshing acidity. The palate is loaded with flavors of ripe stone fruit and apple blossom that lead to a persistent citrus and spice infused finish.

Try pairing this wine with a fresh goat cheese salad drizzled with honey and toasted almonds, Dungeness crab cakes or garlic-studded roast chicken.

Additional wines from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars:

About Stag's Leap Wine Cellars:

Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Founded in 1970, the winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famout 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgement of Paris." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V. and Fay - are among the most highly regarded and collected Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide. The wines are fashioned to express richness balanced by elegant restraint, an approach often described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove."

Enticing aromas of dark cherry, brambly berry, bay leaf, anise, and toasty oak layer on the nose, highlighted by notes of clove and black pepper. Intense and complex.

Full-bodied and robust. Well-knit flavors of dark cassis, cherries, bay leaf, and vanilla are interwoven in this rich and structured wine. Dense mountain expression fills the palate, with nuances of clove, plum, and sage lingering on the finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2006 vintage of this wine was ranked #6 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 2009

The depth and complexity that mark the spectacular 2009 growing season are fully on display in this wine, with head-turning aromatics of black currant, cherry, plum and violet leaping out of the glass before revealing subtler notes of cinnamon, clove, espresso, cocoa and anise. On the palate, the tannins are large, yet velvety, supporting voluptuous layers of blackberry, Bing cherry, cassis and baking spices. Oak-inspired notes of caramelized brown sugar and molasses add additional nuance, while leading to a plush, lingering finish.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Chappellet Winery:

About Chappellet Winery:

For more than four decades, the Chappellet family has been crafting world-class wines from fruit cultivated on the steep, rocky slopes of Napa Valley's renowned Pritchard Hill. As one of the first wineries to pioneer high-elevation hillside planting, and one of the few remaining great family-owned Napa Valley wineries, Chappellet Vineyard and Winery has influenced generations of vintners. Throughout its history, Chappellet has also established an enduring legacy as one of California's most acclaimed producers of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Chappellets' romance with Pritchard Hill began when Donn and Molly Chappellet first glimpsed the mountain's spectacular vistas in the late 1960s. Inspired by the notion that Bacchus loves the hills, Donn and Molly followed the advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on the rocky eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. There, on the mountain’s serene and picturesque hillsides, the Chappellets established their home and winery, raising their children and cultivating the vineyards.

Since being founded by Donn and Molly in 1967, Chappellet has earned acclaim championing the robust power and complexity of wines crafted from mountain grapes. At the same time, Chappellet has helped to establish Pritchard Hill as one of California’s most revered winegrowing sites. To honor the mountain's rich, expressive character, the winemaking team focuses on creating extraordinary, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignons that embody the intensity and finesse of fruit from Pritchard Hill.

Luxurious, rich and concentrated aromas of black cherry, currant and blueberry are just the start of this 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The harmonious flavors of black cherry, anise and plush cassis explode through your mouth. This classic Napa Valley Estate Cabernet is elegant and wonderful young but also has everything it needs to age beautifully.

Winemaker's Notes:

This Cabernet is deep ruby in color with massive extraction and great density. The nose opens with huge intensity, great depth, and lots of layers. Big fruit aromas of black cherry, bright red berries, and plums all lead into the barrel notes of toasty oak, vanilla, and smoky undertones. The palate entry opens smoothly and builds predictably with big, firm (but not coarse) tannin, good acid balance and lots of structure. There is a great progression from ripe, sweet cherry and plum fruit up-front to rich, dried black fruit and spice on the finish – with the vanilla and spice from the barrel layering in seamlessly. For a young wine, it is already showing quite well and will continue to improve over the next 10+ years. This wine is definitely trying to seduce you, enjoy!

About Chateau Montelena:

Chateau Montelena was founded in 1882 by Alfred Tubbs. The renaissance of the winery, under the leadership of James Barrett, began in 1972 with the replanting of the Estate vineyard and the establishment of the Chateau Montelena philosophy: make the best, period. After more than three decades of experience with the same vineyards and varieties, the Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Chardonnay are recognized as world-class.
