Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Shiraz has a very fragrant nose; with blueberry and dark cherry fruit characters, floral violet aromas and a background of complex cocoa and spice. The palate starts with lots of dense berry fruit, which is ripe and juicy and yet also very fresh, this develops further with savory toasted spices and brioche characters coming through. This is an elegant wine with a fine and silky tannin structure. The wine is drinking well now, yet can be cellared for quite a few more years.

About Shirvington:

Our story started in 1996 when we, the Shirvington Family (Lynne, Paul and sons Tony and Mark), purchased 16 hectares of prime land in Willunga, South Australia. After extensive researching and touring of Australia’s major wine regions, this area was chosen for its ability to consistently produce outstanding table wines of great character and quality. Willunga is just south of McLaren Vale on the Fleurieu Peninsula, an area internationally renowned for its red wine, in particular Shiraz.

In the winter of 1996, work began on the development of our first vineyard, Redwind.

Further purchases in 1997 and 2001 saw the development of two new vineyards, Kurrawyba and Manjalda, in McLaren Flat and McLaren Vale.

Working closely with our viticulturist and winemakers, the quality of fruit was such that our first commercial release, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, was awarded Wine of the Year at the prestigious McLaren Vale Wine Show. This wine, coupled with our 2001 Shiraz, was the first to be selected by Dan Philips of The Grateful Palate, for distribution in the United States.

We will continue to produce wines that are testimony to McLaren Vale’s great reputation.

Enjoy.

Winemaker's Notes:

The winery's colorful founder, The Count of Buena Vista, pioneered premium winemaking in California. A tireless and passionate devotee of California wine, The Count imported hundreds of premium vines from Europe, dug Sonoma's first wine caves, introduced innovative viticulture techniques, and wrote the first treatise on California wine. Buena Vista Winery honors his legacy, bold vision, and commiment to excellence through this red wine – the Founder's Red Wine.

The wine's bouquet opens beautifully with rich aromas of black currant, cherries and just a hint of espresso. Smooth on the palate, the wine offers flavors of plum and blackberry that give way to cardamom on the long, silky finish.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Buena Vista Winery:

About Buena Vista Winery:

Founded in 1857 as California's first premium winery, Buena Vista, under the direction of winemaker Jeff Stewart, is a leader in cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah. Straddling Sonoma County in the southern end of the Carneros appellation, the 523-acre Ramal Vineyard Estate is broken up into 167 small blocks, with 21 different clones of Chardonnay and 13 different clones of Pinot Noir, and is set along rolling south-facing hillsides overlooking the San Pablo Bay. The Ramal Vineyard is the crown jewel of all Carneros.

Most winemakers will agree that cool-climate wines like Pinot Noir are the most difficult to produce. And most will agree that Jeff Stewart does so with unparalleled success. Jeff comes to Buena Vista with over 15 years of achievement in cool-climate viticulture and his focus on gentle handling of the grapes and temperature moderation produces wines with complexity, character and depth.

My Notes:

About Punto Nino:

In 2002, the ambitions of Michel Laroche and his partners led them to Viña Punto Alto in Chile, as they sought to take on the challenge of introducing their French style of wine to the New World. Three years later, Michel Laroche bought 53 hectares of slopes ideally situated in Casablanca Valley, to the west of Santiago, towards Valparaiso, at the foot of the mountain El Mahuco which separates the valleys of Casablanca and Maïpo. In 2006 he acquired a 23-hectare estate and a well-appointed cellar in the Casablanca Valley. Laroche's vineyards are situated on gentle slopes covered with a layer of granite that offer remarkable conditions for vine growing: good drainage, favorable exposure and plenty of minerals available to feed the vines.

About Casa Gran del Siurana:

The Casa Gran estate covers 10 hectares of deep flat land, mainly composed of sedimentary fluvial soils from the river Siurana. The vineyard houses the Casa Gran farmhouse, which lends its name to our bodega: a building with a history of three hundred years that was the former headquarters of the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei in ancient times. There’s a project to build a cellar and wine tasting facilities in this estate

Some years ago Castillo Perelada made a bid for the success of quality winemaking in the Empordà. This same passion for high expression wines has guided us to Priorat, one of the most highly regarded Designations of Origin in Spain and the world, and one of the few that are recognised as being a Qualified Designation of Origin.

Our venture with La Casa Gran del Siurana began with the main aim of creating modern, quality wines, through a winemaking process that would control all aspects from the moment the vine is planted onwards.

Meiomi (May-oh-mee) is a Pinot Noir that gets its fruit from the most noteworthy coastal areas in California. The wine is crafted, lush, balanced and luxurious. Three of the California's most sought after coastal growing regions brilliantly meld together in this deeply flavored, stylish and truly balanced Pinot Noir; at its most fundamental core, it is an approachable, food friendly wine with a style and place all its own.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Meiomi:

About Meiomi:

The name Meiomi means "coast" in the language of the native, coastal dwelling Wappo and Yuki tribes, and best pays tribute to and symbolizes the origin of this Pinot Noir. Meiomi is a high style Pinot Noir that is shaped, more than anything else, by the fruit sources that lay the foundation of the blend. A pure bred enjoyment wine, built to accommodate any pairing from food to friends. Unifying California’s most noteworthy coastal areas opens the door for a dynamic and opulent wine that is ready to enjoy whenever you are.

Joseph J. Wagner is a fifth-generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since the 1880's. In his youth, he worked many spring and summer days in the vineyard and cellar of Caymus, learning the basics from pulling leaves, to dragging hoses. Then he began to focus his efforts on what was to become his passion and career in the wine business. He is the owner of Belle Glos and Meiomi wines and has been overseeing vineyard operations and winemaking since 2002. Joseph has a perpetual goal of crafting Pinot Noirs that exude their origins and represent the best of their class in any vintage. Along with his passion for Pinot Noir, he continues his role at Caymus in viticulture and winemaking alongside his father, Chuck. This blend is very dark red, with crimson highlights with balsamic oak aromas, as well as fig and black plum and hints of tobacco. The palate shows great structure and a full-bodied firmness, with mature, silky tannins. Mineral notes mix with the aforementioned fruit, leading to a very elegant, complex and persistent finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Quinta do Vallado:

About Quinta do Vallado:

In the heart of Portugal’s most famous wine region – the Douro Valley – near the historical center of Regua, the Quinta do Vallado vineyards, winery and guest house spread across both banks of the Corgo River at the very point where it meets the Douro. With winemaking references that date back to 1716, the Quinta belonged to the legendary Portuguese vintner D. Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, and has remained in the family through modern times.

The current owners, Joao Ferreria Alvares Ribeiro, Francisco Ferreira and Francisco Olazabal, are the sixth generation of this remarkable family, and the family’s mission to produce some of the best still wines of this fertile valley continues with the red blends and varietals that are exported worldwide. Of the 38-hectare Estate, 26 hectares are filled with vines 60 years and older. It is from these vines that Quinta do Vallado’s Red Reserve and Touriga Nacional wines are made, so it is no wonder that the wines are often found to be rated and reviewed among the best wines from the Douro.

Winemaker's Notes:

Straw yellow. Lychee and citrus with stone fruit and undertones of minerality. Citrus, stone fruits with a creamy, rich mouthfeel and long finish.
My Notes:

About Alderbrook Vineyards:

Situated on the outskirts of the city of Healdsburg in California's Sonoma County, the Alderbrook estate is located at the southernmost tip of the Dry Creek Valley, within a stone's throw of the Russian River. On a road map this might not seem significant, but in the world of fine wine, this location is considered one of the best in the region. While technically located in the Dry Creek Valley appellation, the official border of the Russian River Valley appellation begins close to Alderbrook's 65-acre estate, giving the winery a unique position at the confluence of these two valleys.

Not only does the estate vineyard receive the afternoon heat that is typical of Dry Creek Valley weather patterns, but the cool night air creeping up the Russian River Valley from the Pacific Ocean produces evening and early morning fog, cooling the vines. Alderbrook's vineyard enjoys the luxury of extended "hang time." This produces more mature fruit resulting in rich, full-bodied flavor characteristics: qualities which are ultimately apparent in the wines.

"The blend of climates is a gift, and our estate vines benefit tremendously from the unique weather conditions," says general manager, George Christie. Our incredible location at the junction of these two appellations gives us the perfect raw materials for wine making."

The Terra d'Oro 2010 Deaver Zinfandel has a deep garnet color with lifted aromas of clove, allspice and cracked white pepper. The palate is focused with crisp and juicy layers of ripe blackberry, plum and cinnamon and a lingering baked cobbler flavor on the finish. The briary tannins and baked spice components add complexity to this bold wine and support a great balance of power and restraint.

For a zesty pairing, serve this wine with a roasted guinea hen or a juicy ribeye steak.

This white Rhone blend displays varietal characteristics of Marsanne and Viognier; vibrant floral aromas of citrus blossom and jasmine are followed by elegant flavors of ripe stone fruit, hints of pear, pineapple and honey overtones. A wine of excellent balance and complexity, the 2010 Treana White will age beautifully over the next decade.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Treana Winery:

About Treana Winery:

Treana symbolizes a trinity of natural elements - the sun, the soil, and the ocean - the elements that make Paso Robles and the rest of the Central Coast a prime area for premium wine grapes.

The Hope family began planting vineyards in the area in 1978. Two decades of experience has taught them not only how to grow the finest quality wine grapes, but has also shown them the tremendous potential of the region.

Formerly, the Hopes sold wine under the Hope Family label directly from the winery's tasting room. Beginning with the 1990 vintage, the Hope ranches became the sole source of fruit for Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1996, they founded Treana Winery after years of hands-on experience in viticulture and winemaking. Today, the Hopes cultivate mature vineyards of the varietals best suited to their area; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Mourvedre and Merlot.

Winemaker's Notes:

2009 was a good vintage with plenty of season to reach peak ripeness. We cold-fermented our Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Blanc juice in stainless tanks and then stopped the fermentation to achieve a lower alcohol level with balanced residual sweetness.

Soft White is finished sweet but with enough acid to keep it in balance. The 2009 Soft White shows tropical notes, a hint of citrus and floral notes in leading to a clean and crisp finish.

Our Soft White is delightful on its own or serve well-chilled with fruit, cheese, and light desserts. The wine is also a perfect complement to marinated fish and poultry dishes.

My Notes:

About Ste. Chapelle Winery:

From high atop "Winery Hill", Ste. Chapelle Winery overlooks thousands of acres of fertile orchards and farmland in Southwestern Idaho. Ste. Chapelle was founded in 1976 and named after La Sainte-Chapelle Church in Paris, France. The winery has grown to produce over 120,000 cases and by adhering to a quality focus, their wines have eraned national and international recognition since the beginning.
