Winemaker's Notes:

A lovely deep crimson color, this intense, complex Morgon, develops ripe dark berry aromas (black cherries) and hints of kirsch. These fruity aromas are superbly extended on the palate. A structured, fleshy wine with rich tannins that need time to soften and delicate, spicy notes on the finish: promising signs of a great future.

Additional wines from Georges Duboeuf:

About Georges Duboeuf:

For over 40 years Georges Duboeuf has been the Beaujolais region's most renowned négociant and is today regarded in the wine world as the "King of Beaujolais." Over the years, Georges has developed long-standing relationships with the region's top growers and winemakers. Georges is involved in every aspect of his enterprise and is known for his passion and his legendary palate. In 2003, the Duboeuf family opened a new, modern winery in Romanéche-Thorins. Winemaker's Notes:

Intense, dark ruby color with enticing aromas of ripe, black plums and black currants. The richly textured plum and currant flavors are joined by accents of dark chocolate and some vanilla-scented oak. The ripe, vibrant tannins give the wine beautiful structure and an amazingly long finish. This is a big wine for just a little money. Drink it now or over the next few years to enjoy the fruit flavors at their best. It will pair well with traditional Cabernet-friendly foods like grilled or roasted meats.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Crios de Susana Balbo:

About Crios de Susana Balbo:

After 22 years of winemaking, Susana Balbo has a strong sense of what she wants from her wines. From every harvest, she creates the grandest possible wines under her Susana Balbo label. To achieve this, she makes a rigorous selection of the finest barrels prior to making her final blends, dividing them into the parents (reserve level wines) and offspring or "crios."

Wines under her Crios label display ripe fruit flavors, excellent balance and concentration, and are meant to be enjoyed in their vibrant youth. These wines are produced under Dominio del Plata's code of sustainable agriculture.

Like Susana's own crios (a boy and a girl), they are extremely lovable and fun to be around. The label features a series of three connected and overlapping hands, an image inspired by a Mayan artifact. The artifact illustrates the interconnectedness of every generation, and the irony that we will be both the parent and the offspring at different times in our lives.

Winemaker's Notes:

Color: Ruby red with purple rim variation. Nose: Intense with notes of blueberry and gooseberry. Taste: Full bodied, fresh and harmonious, rich in its fruitiness.
My Notes:

About Château de Paraza:

The estate stretches over 130 hectares. The vineyard is located on sloping ground with a southerly orientation and a soil suited well to the vine. The vineyard extends over 65 hectares, 50 of which are given to vines classified as A.C. Minervois and 15 to the local vin de pays d'OC.

Before becoming essentially a wine producing business, over the centuries the property enjoyed many different activities including the cultivation of olive groves and cereals, as well as the breeding of large herds of sheep.

Minervois is one of the oldest Mediterranean vineyards. Its soil was indeed chosen by Romans so as to establish the first vines in Languedoc Roussillon. The castle's vineyard is , located in the soil called "Les Serres". The average age of the vineyard is twenty years. The estate grows 30% Syrah for dark fruit and spice, 30% Grenache for roundness and red fruits, 20% Mourvedre for structure, color and deep aroma, 10% Carignan and 10% Merlot for violet and roasted red fruit.

Winemaker's Notes:

As always the California Zinfandel is a challenging and rewarding wine to produce. Severe selection criteria and master blending show in the final product, which showcases a wide array of dark berry fruit including black cherry and raspberry. Additionally, spice notes and a lasting finish of vanilla from oak aging and firm, supple tannins add complexity to this wine. This wine is ready to drink now and will continue to develop complexity over the next three to four years.

Additional wines from Cline:

About Cline:

Fred Cline founded Cline Cellars in 1982, in Oakley, California. In 1991, the winery facilities relocated to the Sonoma Valley on a 350 acre estate in the Carneros District. The Cline Brothers, Fred and Matt, are Zinfandel and Rhone varietal specialists. Their holdings include some of the oldest and rarest vines in California. They are best known for the one hundred year old plantings of Carignane, Mourvedre and Zinfandel grapes they farm in Oakley, California. The Mourvedre represent approximately 85% of the state's total supply of this fascinating and versatile varietal. This treasure is the inspiration for Cline Cellars many "Rhone style" bottlings.

A blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Carignan and 15% Cinsault.

This blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault grapes has produced a typical Rhône Valley style; full of fruit and spice aromas, it has soft tannins and good body.

My Notes:

Additional wines from La Vieille Ferme:

About La Vieille Ferme:

Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.

Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value.

(search item no. 99584)

PRICE ON 4/20/2014: $11.49

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon, Selected Vineyards is a well-balanced wine. It exhibits a rich nose of cherry and plum fruit flavors, with hints of chocolate and vanilla oak. The flavorful palate shows rhubarb, pomegranate and more oak flavor overtones. The full finish has hints of sweet tobacco.

Pair with tri-tip of beef or rosemary-rubbed filet mignon.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Concannon:

About Concannon:

A historic and once-famous Livermore winery, Concannon was bought and sold several times in the 1980's by large conglomerates that were purchasing each other. Each sale resulted in a loss of focus, and the brand suffered. In 1992 Eric Wente of Wente Vineyards saved it from the jaws of destruction by assembling a group of eight investors to buy the winery. However, Concannon Vineyard is a totally separate company in both ownership and operation from Wente Vineyards.

Nestled amidst the vineyards and rolling hills along the Livermore Valley, Concannon has been widely recognized for crafting full-flavored, complex and award-winning wines. Ocean air pours through the Golden Gate each afternoon cooling the influence of the sun, and enabling the grapes to develop both the ripe sugars and firm acids that fine wine demands.

Concannon is perfectly positioned geologically, atop a 600-foot-deep bed of gravelly soil. These rocks require the vines to drive their roots deep into mineral-rich deposits, and it also keeps the grape and cluster size in moderation.

More than 140 of Concannon's 200 Livermore estate acres are Petite Sirah plantings grafted onto improved rootstocks. Over the decades, they have carefully tuned their planting and trellising to take full advantage of the unique terroir. The result: intensely flavored, memorable wines vintage after vintage.

Winemaker's Notes:

Dark cherry-red, with an intense purplish color round the edges. Aromas of ripe forest fruit, cocoa, violets and a balsamic flourish against a smoky background. Flavorsome, fresh, balanced and meaty, with good fruit on the palate. Forest fruits take the lead for the overture.
My Notes:

About Mano a Mano:

This winery is located in the terroir of La Mancha found in the eastern region of the Denomination of Origin. The soil is the reason that the winery committed themselves to purchasing 95 hectares (228 acres) of vineyards, located at an altitude of 660 meters (1980 ft) above sea level, with an average age of 40 year old vines.

The sandy soils (up to 1 meter in depth) have an underlayment of large river stones, with a lot of iron, clay, and chalk. The vines produce very low yields of 1-2 kgs of grapes per vine. Winters are very cold; summers are hot with cool nights and it is a very arid climate.

The Spanish enologist, Rafael Cañizares seeks to achieve the maximum expression of the Tempranillo grape grown in this environment. After very careful vineyard selections, only the best vines of Tempranillo grapes are hand harvested.

Dark berry and blackcurrant flavors are underpinned by a lick of vanillan oak. This Shiraz reveals a silky, smooth texture and lovely balance. Petite Sirah is a Mendocino specialty and Parducci was one of the first wineries to bottle this varietal. Dark ruby in color, with aromas of cherry, blackberry, mint and chocolate, this big red's spicy dark fruit flavors pair well with marinated tri-tip, mushroom risotto, and hearty stews.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Parducci:

About Parducci:

Sixteen year-old Adolph Parducci arrived in Northern California with his parents in 1912. The new immigrant family settled in Mendocino County an area that resembled their native Tuscany. Even today, the geography and climate of Mendocino County are similar to Northern Italy. The County's hillside vineyards provide plenty of exposure to ripen hearty red grape varieties, while deep river valleys with good drainage support flavor-packed white grapes. Adolph purchased his first vineyard in 1921, just one-year after Prohibition. To survive, Parducci created a market for his grapes with home winemakers from as far away as New York. Adolph and his four sons built their full-scale winery in 1932 on the site of their original Home Ranch just above the Ukiah Valley.

In 1944, Parducci produced one of the first varietal bottling of California Zinfandel. This wine signaled the arrival of California as a premium winegrowing area and of Parducci Wine Cellars as the producer of quality wines. Two years later, we made the first varietal bottling of California Petite Sirah and today we are still the largest producer of Petite Sirah with just over 20,000 cases.

Parducci is "Family Farmed," locally owned and operated in California's Mendocino County. We are committed to sustainable winegrowing practices that yield top quality grapes and wines while protecting the environment and supporting our community and local farmers.
