Winemaker's Notes:

Due to some grey rot, the bad botrytis, we have selectionned the grapes very carefully when they came to our press room, to avoid the mushroomy flavor which one can detect in numbers of 2006 Alsace wines produced by unskilled or undisciplined wine makers.

The result is a clean and well balanced 2006 Trimbach Gewurztraminer with all its classical fruit and flavors.

Its flavor reminds the lychee and some exotic fruits and it finished dry and spicy, perfectly in the Trimbach style.

Gewurztraminer should be drunk with spicy foods from all around the world; From Chinese cuisine to Indian curries, from sushies to fusion cuisine. It is the only wine able to stand up to spices. One should drink Gewurztraminer with strong cheeses as well, like Munster, Epoisse, or Livarot, as well as blue cheeses like Roquefort, Fourme d'Ambert and Stilton.

About Trimbach:

Maison Trimbach began in 1626 when Jean Trimbach settled in Riquewihr and established the family wine trade.

Jean-Frédéric Trimbach, born in 1811, was appointed Gourmet of Hunawihr, a position designed to protect the quality of wine exports. He transferred the Maison Trimbach business to Hunawihr, where he served as mayor for many years.

Jean-Frédéric and his son, Frédéric-Emile continued the family tradition, and Frédéric-Emile traveled extensively to promote the wines. In 1898 he received the Certificate of Highest Quality at the Brussels International Show. With Frédéric-Emile at the helm, Maison Trimbach began bottling its wines in Alsace rather than selling in bulk, providing a new guarantee of quality and authenticity. The contribution of Frédéric-Emile Trimbach was recognized when the family adopted his initials in the firm's official name: Maison F.E. Trimbach.

Today, the tradition of quality continues with the 11th and 12th generations of the Trimbach family. Hubert and his older brother Bernard, along with Bernard's sons, Pierre and Jean, have continued operations and currently produce approximately 80,000 cases of wines annually. Over one-third of their production is exported to the United States. While one of the smallest of the many producers in Alsace, they are nonetheless the largest, most widely recognized Alsace brand in the United States.

Additional wines from La Vieille Ferme:

About La Vieille Ferme:

Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.

Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine is lemon yellow in color with green reflections of good intensity. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine has a youthful quality. The nose is frank, pleasant and distinguished. It gives out a dominant of mature fruity scents, of citrus fruits, candied lemon, as well as a slightly floral hint. Airing remains on citrus fruits, delicately enhanced. The nose is marked by a good typicity, delicate and fresh, and the grapes display a beautiful maturity. The onset in the mouth is moderately ample. The alcoholic base is present; one evolves on a fresh and edgy medium. The range of flavors is marked by citrus fruits, candied lemon, lemon peel, and delicately spicy ginger. The finish offers a moderate length and a sharp vivacity.

The structure of this wine makes it a good companion for salads or pan fried scampi. To be served at a temperature of 54°F. Drink immediately or keep for 5 years.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Domaines Schlumberger:

About Domaines Schlumberger:

Domaines Schlumberger only harvests grapes from their own vineyards and are entirely dedicated to quality, which is achieved through deliberately producing very restricted yields per hectare.

The planting and judicious choice of grape varieties, pruning the vines, constantly surveying the grapes as they ripen, and the precious care that they are given enable a strict selection to be made during harvesting. Each plot, or even each bunch of grapes, will only be picked if it is completely ripe.

A blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Carignan and 15% Cinsault.

This blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault grapes has produced a typical Rhône Valley style; full of fruit and spice aromas, it has soft tannins and good body.

"Good blackberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with soft, round tannins. Juicy. This is an outstanding new wine from Angelini."
- Wine Spectator

When things are going well, when life is good, the Italians say, "tuttobene!"

My Notes:

About tuttobene:

Tenimenti Angelini produces excellent wines from the three main wine regions in Tuscany: Chianti (San Leonino), Montalcino (Val di Suga) and Montepulciano (Tenuta TreRose). Under the careful supervision of Director/Winemaker Mario Calzolari, Angelini has managed to do something that is not easy to accomplish: to capture in a bottle the essence of Tuscany, its sunny days, its warmth and the Mediterranean flavors that go so well with classic Italian dishes.

The wine is tuttobene, meaning "all is going well." tuttobene has the TOSCANA IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) denomination and is made from a judicious varietal blend that is characteristic of the Tuscan region.
