Winemaker's Notes:

The 1997 vintage of this wine was ranked #8 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 2002

The 2006 Castelgiocondo Brunello exhibits layered aromas of wild blackberry, red currant and sour cherry, closely followed by floral notes of sweet violets and spicy characters of black pepper, clove and tobacco leaf. Cocoa, roasted espresso bean, vanilla and a slight mineral character add to the complexity of the nose. The palate exhibits a velvety mouthfeel, bright, crisp flavors, and noticeable tannins, with all of the components in fine balance. Fruit-driven flavors dominate the long finish.

Beef stews, braised meats with potatoes, cheeses that are aged but not too pungent, and large game, such as boar.

About Frescobaldi:

The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of Italy's oldest wineries, with a history dating to the 1300s. The family has included medieval knights, bankers, lawyers and patrons of the arts. The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of the most significant wine producers in Italy, with nine estates—and roughly 2,500 acres—in Tuscany. The family has been growing wine since the late 19th century, when they became the first in Tuscany to import and plant French vine cuttings. Because they have been producing wines for more than 700 years, to experience Frescobaldi is to glimpse the history of Florence, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Wine Spectator has ranked many of their offerings in the 90s and their wines are consistently listed in the magazine's Top 100 Wines of the Year, encouraging wine enthusiasts from around the globe to become familiar with some of Italy's finest wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Amador County yields a bold Old Vine Zinfandel with rich, bright raspberry and black cherry fruit complemented by hints of earth and spice that add to its complexity.

ZINFANDELIC is a tribute to the unique California wine varietal - Zinfandel. It is also a tribute the California movement & culture of the 1960s - Flower Power, Haight Ashbury, Summer of Love, Rock & Roll, etc. The label is reminiscent of rock posters of the sixties era.

About Zinfandelic:

ZINFANDELIC is a tribute to the unique California wine varietal, Zinfandel, and the California movement & culture of the 1960s.

Located in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in central California, Amador County is renowned for producing California's finest Zinfandels, some of them crafted from 19th-century vines. This sustainably farmed old vine vineyard is planted on hillsides with soils of sandy clay loam derived from decomposed granite. Amador's warm days and cool evening breezes from the Sierras promote full ripening of the grapes and a balanced acidity, leading to robust, intensely flavored wines.

It's Zinfandelic

Zinfandel has always been the quintessential California wine. Taking on the characteristics of the regions where it's grown, the flavor of a California Zin is like the flavor of California itself. It's free love in a bottle, with a vibe all its own - at times mellow, others bold or even spicy. But it's always, dare we say, groovy.

Winemaker's Notes:

This year's bottling is the second to come entirely from B-block, planted in 2001 to a Wente selection from the Hyde Vineyard, so the vines were eight years old this vintage and further developing their maturity. Hudson Vineyard wines tend to a more muscular, masculine character—broad-shouldered, if you will.

Winemaker's Notes:

The attractive, high-toned aromas are of citrus blossoms, pear, green apple, vanilla, lemon oil, anise, clove, graphite, and clean mineral. A bit tightly wound initially, the mouth-watering acidity belies the full body and concentrated, sweet lemony fruit. As the wine opens up, the inherent richness and flavor intensity rise to demonstrate the quality and longevity of the vintage. The unfolding flavors are of ripe apple, citrus, clove and caramel on a long, mineral-laden finish.
My Notes:

About Hanzell Vineyards:

Industrialist James D. Zellerbach acquired the 200 acre Hanzell estate on the Mayacamas slopes above the town of Sonoma in 1948, and in 1952 he planted 2 acres of Pinot Noir and 4 acres of Chardonnay on the site. The Ambassador's ambition was to create a small vineyard and winery dedicated to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Zellerbachs created the first vintage in 1957 and named their winery Hanzell, a contraction of Mrs. Hana Zellerbach's name.

Zellerbach hired Ralph Bradford Webb in 1956 to be his winemaker and Webb would be integral to the winemaking for the first two decades of Hanzell. Webb introduced four significant advances in enology that would subsequently be adopted by many other wineries, predicating consistency and quality for the entire industry -temperature-controlled fermentation, the use of French Oak barrels, the practice of "blanketing" young wines in tank with inert gas and the practice of induced malolactic fermentation.

The original 6 acre vineyard has grown to 42 acres today, allowing Hanzell to produce 6,000 cases annually: three-quarters Chardonnay and one-quarter Pinot Noir, retaining its identity as a very small winery dedicated to making the Burgundian varietals at the Grand Cru level. Through five decades, Hanzell has pursued empirical winemaking and established traditions on which great cellar-worthy winemaking is predicated.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2004 vintage of this wine was ranked #4 on the Wine Spectator's Top 10 Wines of 2007

The original Super Tuscan, Tignanello is produced exclusively from a 116-acre vineyard site at Antinori's Tignanello Estate.

Blend: 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc.

The 2007 Tignanello is intense ruby red in color with primary aromas of concentrated, ripe fruit and spice, which give way to milder notes of vanilla and toast. Generous, richly textured and intense on the palate, this wine possesses a complex structure and long persistent flavors with hints of chocolate, huckleberries and black plums on the finish. The well-managed tannin blends perfectly with the oak, for a complex and elegant wine.
