Winemaker's Notes:

Our most sophisticated Felino Malbec yet carries a deep magenta hue and aromas of dark berries and anise. On the palate, intense, pure flavors of just-picked raspberries, black plum and graphite unfold in velvety layers. Exotic notes of ginger and white pepper carry through the mid-palate to intermingle with firm tannins and notes of cedar on the finish.

screw cap wine

PRICE ON 8/28/2014: $7.99

Winemaker's Notes:

The nose of this rich Cabernet-Shiraz blend announces the presence of classic Barossa Shiraz, with notes of blackberry, blueberry and cassis and a hint of dried sage. Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly present in the structure and complexity of this dense, full-bodied wine. Moderate oak doesn't detract from, but rather complements, the intense fruit flavors. This Cabernet-Shiraz is enjoyable now but will continue to develop in the bottle for several years. Pair this wine with hearty fare such as charcoal-grilled steak, roast leg of lamb with white bean puree and pasta with rich red sauce.

Blend: 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Shiraz

My Notes:

About Archetype:

Archetype wines are made from exceptional vineyards in the Barossa – Australia's renowned winegrowing region. The wines are produced at Chateau Yaldara, a landmark winery in the heart of the Barossa that was originally founded in1867, then re-built in 1965, by the joint winemaking team of Napa Valley's Bob Masyczek and Australia's Thomas Jung.

Located just north of Adelaide in Sotheast Australia, the Barossa is a popular tourist destination. It was discovered a century and a half ago by German and English settlers as having excellent soil and climate conditions for growing wine grapes.

World-renowned for its big, blockbuster Shiraz wines, the Barossa is Australia's equivalent of the Napa Valley in terms of prestige and name recognition. It is also home to some of the highest-rated Australian wineries including Henshke, Penfolds, and Yalumba. A small area about the size of Napa Valley, its major towns are Lyndoch and Tanunda.

(search item no. 87662)

PRICE ON 8/28/2014: $12.99

Winemaker's Notes:

Attractive, relatively deep pink colour, almost rounded to red, but with some elegant blue tints. Long legs indicating good vinous structure.

On the nose, full, but refreshing rosé nose. Good clean intense, mature red fruit, with strawberries and raspberries combining with more tropical notes of pineapple, and an elegant citrus touch of grapefruit. There are also hints of fresh herbs and a final hint of mandarin peel. The palate is bright and lively, fruit balancing freshness and a pleasant fullness. It is a full bodied, warm rosé but with a fresh red summer fruit elegance creating a delicate, appealing wine of great character.

My Notes:

About Fra Guerau:

800 years ago, in a time of change and shadows, after the Crusades and pilgrim travels of the Mediterranean, the Orient, old Greece, Germany, Rome Metropolis, and the land of the Francs, the monk Guerau Miquel came to Montsant in the north east of Spain.

He was known to be a man with a Saints' gifts and that he healed Queen Sança from her illness by his sole presence in the room. As a gift from the king and queen he got a piece of land where he constructed two chapels in honor of Santa Maria and Sant Bartomeu. Fra Guerau was a good man, an anchorite who lived his quiet life in a cave in the Valley of Silence, and dedicated himself to spirituality.

The wine Fra Guerau is named after this monk Guerau Miquel, one of the most historically renowned persons from Montsant, in honor to the Cister monks, and then the Carthusians, who brought the vine cultivating culture to this region.

Winemaker's Notes:

Let's get down to brass tacks. This Riesling is about the purity of the varietal flavors and California terroir. Brass Tacks Riesling offers crisp clean notes of fresh peach, honey and apricot with mineral qualities and bright acidity with a brisk, dry finish. This Riesling is sourced from Monterey County, where the cooling influence from the Pacific Ocean and Monterey Bay leads to one of the longest growing seasons in California. The cool climate allows for a longer hang time that leads to full, concentrated flavors and ideal acidity.

Food Pairings: Refreshing and food-friendly, Brass Tacks Riesling pairs well with seafood, salads, spicy and Asian foods.

Additional wines from Kenwood Vineyards:

About Kenwood Vineyards:

Located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, Kenwood Vineyards is dedicated to producing premium wines truly representative of Sonoma County’s world-class vineyards.

Kenwood Vineyards was established in 1970 in the former Pagani Brothers Winery, a historic cellar dating back to 1906. Thoroughly refurbished and modernized, the facility now boasts more than 125 stainless steel fermenting tanks and large oak uprights, and 20,000 small French and American oak barrels, all devoted to Kenwood Vineyards’ “small lot” style of winemaking.

In addition to the 22-acre vineyard surrounding the winery, Kenwood Vineyards sources grapes from dozens of vineyards – many farmed sustainably, using natural soil amendments and pest controls whenever possible rather than chemicals - in Sonoma County’s best appellations, including Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley and Sonoma Mountain. Each lot from each vineyard is kept separate throughout the winemaking process, enabling the winemaker to bring it to its fullest potential. This “small lot” or “cuvee” style of winemaking also enables the winemaker to draw on an exceptionally broad “palette” to assemble wines that showcase classic character, subtle complexity and superb balance. As a result, every Kenwood Vineyards wine – whether Table Wine Series, Sonoma Series, Reserve, Jack London Vineyard or Artist Series – is consistent in quality and consistently delicious.
