Winemaker's Notes:

As the deep color indicates this wine has beautiful, rich and brooding aromas of leather, plums, coffee and sweet oak. The palate follows with a lovely rich, smooth texture full of ripe red fruits and spicy oak. Although still very youthful it is beautifully balanced and will develop even further in the bottle. A very impressive Martinborough Pinot noir.

About Domaine de Saint Cosme:

Louis Barruol is the 14th generation Barruol to make wine at Saint Cosme. The Chateau was built in the late 16th Century on the site of a former Roman villa, and the remains of a Roman wine cellar, carved into the stone of the hillside, still exist in the chateau's caves. There are 37 acres of vineyards and the vines average 60 years of age. The old plots (pictured on the Gigondas label) and stitch across the escarpment of the ragged Dentelles de Montmirail, an oft-painted mountain range.

The Saint-Esprit's deep color has a dark, plum-like hue. The nose is classical Syrah, with berry fruit, violet, licorice and spices. It has a full, rounded palate with delicate tannins. Saint-Esprit is a unique wine in the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation and can be paired with Provençale-style cuisine, game, stuffings and mixed grills.

Winemaker's Notes:

With beautifully married flavors and tannins, our Oberon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a lovely, seamless texture. Malolactic fermentation in barrel, combined with 18 months oak aging, further concentrated the wine's vibrant red cherry, candied blackberry, licorice and spice flavors, adding a hint of cocoa powder and a lingering toffee note on the finish.

Additional wines from Oberon:

About Oberon:

As a third-generation winemaker and Napa Valley native, Rob Mondavi, Jr. has always understood that the region is uniquely suited for growing classic Bordeaux varieties. With the Oberon label - originally named for the eponymous king in Shakespeare's winsome comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream — he has created high-quality Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc to be enjoyed every day.

Rob and fellow winemaker, Tony Coltrin, select Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from some of Napa Valley's finest vineyards in Oakville, Rutherford, Stags Leap and other emerging sub-appellations. The climate of these regions — warm days and cool evenings — yields grapes with the perfect balance of ripe fruit flavors and natural acidity.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine has a deep garnet-red hue with purple tinges. The nose, as with all good Hermitages, is both intense and complex. Domaine des Tourettes 2009 also shows concentrated aromas of fruit, with hints of blackberries and dark cherry. Oak underscores these with notes of toast and chocolate. On the palate the wine is well-built and its ample volume reveals the fine qualities of its granite terroir, finishing with a refreshing mineral-like edge.

Pair this wine with rare or well-cooked red meat, roasted game, marinated meat dishes and game stews. We recommend opening this bottle between one and three hours before drinking.

About Rocca delle Macie:

When the late Italo Zingarelli, a former boxer and film producer, bought Rocca delle Macìe in Tuscany's Chianti Classico district back in 1973, he embarked on a new career as one of Tuscany's more unlikely wine producers.

It was certainly not intended to be a hobby... it was a vocation, a desire to return to the soil." Zingarelli, who passed away in the spring of 2000, was always quick to point out.

Working closely with his son Sergio, Zingarelli set about restoring the property that Sergio together with his wife Daniela, who plays an active role in the day-to-day management of the estate, and their two children now call home. Then a tumbled down 14th-century farmstead near the village of Castellina in Chianti, it was surrounded by acres of neglected vines. Vineyards were replanted from scratch; further property, was acquired, and a state-of-the-art cellar built and installed with the latest winemaking equipment. The Zingarellis left nothing to chance in their quest to create a stellar Tuscan wine estate.

Organic fertilization, careful pruning, the introduction of small oak barrels for aging and harvesting by hand are just some of the practices Sergio and his father instituted at the estate. Rocca is an active member of the Chianti Classico growers' consortium, which takes the black rooster as its symbol.

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2007 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon combines elegance and depth in a balanced expression of this classic California vintage. It has a dark ruby color with a garnet edge and a complex nose of sandalwood, cedar, cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate and roasted coffee. On the palate, it is extremely rich and mouth-coating and has a long finish of concentrated fruit and spice with a slight tannic grip. This wine is remarkable in how it continues to evolve in the glass over the course of a meal. It has great maturity of aromas and tannins at moderate alcohol. With proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2033.
My Notes:

About Silver Oak Napa Valley:

Silver Oak Cellars was started in 1972 with a simple driving philosphy - to focus production on only one varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon. What's more, they resolved to create a wine with a style all its own: not another hard, tannic red wine requiring years of aging to enjoy, but a wine of fully developed flavors and a velvety soft texture on the day it is released for sale.

Silver Oak Cellars produces Cabernet Sauvignon from two appellations. Their Napa Valley derives its fruit from both owned and contracted vineyards, and is produced entirely at their Oakville winery. Beginning in 1994, small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot have been included in their Napa blend to add complexity and softness.

Silver Oak also produces stellar Cabernet from their Alexander Valley vineyards. A critical reason for the success of this wine, and every wine they make, has always been that they create the final blend before aging it in American oak barrels and then bottles. Over the course of four-and-a-half years, the wine’s flavors, aromas, and textures have an opportunity to meld with one another and the wood’s delicate qualities to create the kind of graceful cohesion found only in the world's most elegant wines.

Dark ruby red. Spices, red berries and delicate oak aromas. Round soft tannins. Aromas of rasberry, blackberry and vanilla. Balance between scarcely perceptible acidity and tannins which add ageing potential and softened by long ageing in oak.
My Notes:

Additional wines from E. Guigal:

About E. Guigal:

The Guigal domain was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, home of the wines of the Côte-Rôtie. In these vineyards that are over 2400 years old, you can still see the small terraced walls characteristic of the Roman period. Etienne Guigal arrived in this region in 1923 at the age of 14. He made wine for over 67 vintages and, at the beginning of his career, participated in the development of the Vidal-Fleury establishment.

Despite his young age, Marcel Guigal took over from his father in 1961 when the latter was victim to a brutal illness rendering him blind. Marcel's hard work and perseverance enabled the Guigals to buy out Vidal-Fleury in 1984, although the establishment retains its own identity and commercial autonomy. In 2000, the Guigals purchased the Jean-Louis Grippat estate in Saint-Joseph and Hermitage, as well as the Domaine de Vallouit in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage.

In the cellars of the Guigal estate in Ampuis, the northern appellations of the Rhône Valley are produced and aged. These are the appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. The great appellations of the Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône, are also aged in the Ampuis cellars.
