Winemaker's Notes:

This wine also available as part of the Trophy Reds

Our 2007 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a profound, fruit-driven wine from a great California vintage. It has a dark ruby color with a purple edge and an inviting nose of ripe black plum, blackberry, baking spices and soy sauce. On the palate, the wine is rich and full, reminiscent of the flavors of a berry cobbler. It has a long, fruity finish with fine grained tannins, and is a testament to exquisite ripeness at moderate alcohol. With proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure through 2031.

About Silver Oak Alexander Valley:

Great wine is meant to be savored with family and friends. This belief is at the heart of Silver Oak Cellars, where we have crafted extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon for over 35 years. Designed to be deliciously drinkable from the day it is released, Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon grows more supple and luxurious over time.

Silver Oak's Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is produced at our picturesque Geyserville estate, set amid the rolling hills of northern Sonoma County.

The Tudor-style estate features a massive flagstone arch that leads to a central courtyard with a fountain. High, arched glass doors open on the tasting room with its rustic stone fireplace. Designed to resemble the American oak barrels that are a signature of Silver Oak, the oak tasting bar is accented with steel barrel hoops. Beautifully etched glass doors highlight the stone-lined wine library next door, which contains an enormous oak barrel carved with the Silver Oak logo.

Winemaker's Notes:

#44 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2009

Only eight vintages of the Royal Tokaji Red Label have been produced since its premier release of the 1990 vintage. Since then, the Red Label has been made in 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2005. This wine is a blend of carefully selected grapes from several of Royal Tokaji's first and second growth vineyards.

The 2005 Red Label is imbued with a golden amber color. Its perfume resonates with ripe fruit, honey and orange peel. The palate offers lusciousness and complexity balanced by fine acidity, which leads to a clean and refreshing finish. It will age beautifully for several years.

Serve slightly chilled (50 to 54 degrees) in a small port glass or a glass of similar size (there are approximately eight two-ounce servings per 500ml bottle). Tokaji Aszú wines are wonderful on their own as an apéritif or as a digestif, with cigars and petits fours. These wines also pair well with a wide variety of foods, including foie gras, fruit tarts, chocolate desserts, and blue and soft cheeses.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Royal Tokaji:

About Royal Tokaji:

The first Tokaji Aszú (toh-KAY ah-SOO) wine was created in the 1600s, perhaps by accident - a harvest delayed by threat of enemy invasion. In 1700, Tokaj became the first European region to have its vineyards classified, its uniquely varied terroirs and climates rated Primae Classis, Secundae Classis, Tertius Classis ("1st Growth, 2nd Growth, 3rd Growth") by Prince Rakoczi of Transylvania. This classification system is still used in Hungary today. Louis XIV of France (1638 - 1715) declared Tokaji "the wine of Kings and the King of wines", while in the 18th century, Catherine the Great stationed soldiers in Tokaj to protect her vineyards.

Quality production ended with World Wars I and II and the Communist takeover of Hungarian winemaking. Aszú grapes were used for mass production in factories, with vineyard distinctions lost in giant tanks. Tokaji's renaissance began after the collapse of communism with the Royal Tokaji Wine Company (RTWC) in 1989, inspired by well-known wine author, Hugh Johnson, and others. RTWC's founders started the winery in an effort to preserve what they considered a dying art. "I couldn't resist bringing back to life a wine that had been so renowned centuries ago," says Johnson.

PRICE ON 10/24/2014: $26.99

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 vintage would be most aptly described as the coolest and most even keeled in the past three decades. Both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have now set new quality standards at Pessagno Winery as a result of the Vintage. Many of my colleagues agree that 2007 may be the Pinot Noir Vintage of our lifetimes! The fourth release of the Lucia Highlands Vineyard Pinot Noir has vastly exceeded our expectations. This wine is deeply colored, rich and elegant, offering deep concentrated layers of cherry, current, and violets and a hint of caramel from oak aging. Stylistically classic, it wine pairs well with Mediterranean cuisine, especially grilled vegetables, seafood, veal, and pork.
My Notes:

About Pessagno Winery:

Pessagno Winery is the culmination of a twenty-year vision of Stephen Pessagno, winemaker, to produce limited quantities of exclusive, prestigious single vineyard wines from Monterey and San Benito counties.

Established in 1999 with family and friends, Pessagno Winery is nestled in the scenic Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey county overlooking the Salinas River where cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes flourish.

All Pessagno wines are styled for elegance, balance, and finesse, with an emphasis on the maximum varietal character of the grape and respect for the unique expression of each vineyard's Terroir.

Each vineyard is carefully selected for the high quality of its fruit and meticulously overseen during the growing season to intensify the aromas and flavors of the grapes. The wines are handcrafted in separate lots using only the finest winemaking techniques and traditional French oak barrels.

About Red Truck Winery:

START YOUR ENGINES The idea for Red Truck Wines began when Fred and Nancy Cline of Sonoma, California's Cline Cellars fell in love with a painting of a classic, old red truck, purchasing it at an auction benefiting the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Created by internationally renowned Sonoma-based artist Dennis Ziemienski, the light-filled painting of a vintage truck set against a typical Sonoma landscape of soft, golden hills, bright blue sky and cotton ball clouds seemed destined to become a sensational new wine label with universal appeal.

Winemaker's Notes:

Pinot Gris is revered in Alsace as a super-rich wine that can be partnered with many different foods. These grapes come from the Couronne d'Or (Golden Crown), an association of local vineyards and winemakers that run through the middle of Alsace. The vineyards are sloped with a South / South East exposure, while the soil is mostly calcareous and thin. The vines are dry farmed and trained upwards for maximum exposure to the sun.

Our Alsatian Pinot Gris is very true to its style and terroir. Starting rich and full, its mouthfeel is quite opulent and round. One can detect a slightly smoky flavor with a touch of grass. It has a pleasant and long finish.

My Notes:

About Helfrich:

The Helfrich family, which has been crafting wines in Alsace for six generations, is committed to promoting the reputation of Alsace as a region which produces world class wines of great flavor and complexity. The Helfrich family is leading the Alsatian Renaissance with grapes from centuries old vineyards and employ modern wine making methods with a minimalist touch to allow the terroir to accentuate these fine wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Enters with sweet black cherry, cassis, black currant jam, and red raspberry with a hint of anise. Honeysuckle, tobacco and the suggestion of forest floor add dimension, along with cedar and spicy nutmeg from the French Oak.

Intense at entry with bright, sweet currant, blackberry and cassis. Hints of dark chocolate and licorice add complexity to the dark fruits. The flavors build into a rich, full-bodied mid palate with a mouth feel that is both substantial and harmonious. Round, polished tannins linger on the finish.

Equally at home with a New York strip or an artisan cheese course, this is assuredly a food-lover's cabernet.

Winemaker's Notes:

Ancestors of father and daughter team Paul and Laurence Féraud farmed olives, cherries and grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape dating back to the 17th century. The methods established centuries ago carry on in the current vintages, creating robust, concentrated, traditional red and white wines.

Prior to Laurence joining her father in the business in 1987, Paul sold much of the wine to négociants. Paul himself learned the trade from his mother, a self-taught vigneron of local repute, who bottled wines under the family's previous label, Domaine Féraud et fils.

Comprised of mostly old vine Grenache (80%), the Féraud's Châteauneuf-du-Pape includes all 13 of the regionally allowed grape varieties.

My Notes:

About Domaine du Pegau:

Ancestors of father and daughter team Paul and Laurence Féraud farmed olives, cherries and grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape dating back to the 17th century. The methods established centuries ago carry on in the current vintages, creating robust, concentrated, traditional red and white wines. For many years the winery was known as Domaine Feraud fils. and they made traditional Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

In 1987 Domaine du Pegau was formed as we know it today, when Laurence Feraud returned from her winemaking studies and she teamed up with her father Paul to create the winery. Complementing each other they have conserved the authenticity and quality of their Chateauneuf-du-Pape whilst bringing it to the attention of wine lovers around the world.

Winemaker's Notes:

2007 was characterized by mild temperatures during maturation, leading ripening of the grapes and resulting in very balanced and elegant wines.

Very profound and intense deep purple color. Rich and complex floral aromas of violets and eucalyptus from the Malvedos and Lages Touriga Franca give a very special elegance to this wine. Very attractive rich blackberry flavored fruit with excellent texture. The sheer power, weight, complexity and balance of this wine guarantee its longevity.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Graham's:

About Graham's:

The firm of W & J Graham & Co has its roots in a Glasgow-based textile concern. In 1820 the brothers William and John Graham, who were then managing the company office in Oporto, accepted 27 pipes of Port wine in settlement of a bad debt. This Port was shipped to the parent company in Glasgow which initially reprimanded the brothers for not sending cash. Fortunately however, after it was sold the Port turned out to be very popular and soon William and John were being urged by their parent company to acquire and ship more of this finest of fortified wines. Within the next few years Graham's reputation grew as a shipper of fine Port, first to Scotland and gradually all over the Port-drinking world. In 1882 Andrew James Symington, a young Scot whose family was well known to the Grahams, took up a position with Graham's in Oporto. The firm of W & J Graham was acquired by the Symington family, his descendants, in 1970. Today James Symington, grandson of Andrew James, and other members of the family draw on their century of experience in the Port trade to ensure that the quality and reputation of Graham's is maintained.

About Maximin Grunhauser:

First documented in 966 A.D. the von Schubert estate is not only one of the oldest but also one of the best. They are sole owners (Monopole) of the 3 vineyards (Abtsberg, Bruderberg and Herrenberg) that the estates wines are coming from. Since 1982, Dr. Carl von Schubert manages the estate according to the motto: "As much handling as necessary, but as little as possible", putting him and his wines worldwide in the top class.
