About 3 Stones:

The story of 3 stones begins in 2002, when our vineyards in Marlborough, New Zealand produced their first crop. Just before harvest, over a couple of glasses of wine, we talked about the pioneering heritage of our forefathers and the true spirit of New Zealand. Our stunning land was discovered by incredibly skilled Polynesian sailors and later shaped by brave settlers, who had travelled halfway across the planet to farm and to raise children.

The conversation turned to the time when the world was torn apart by war. Though we were far from the front lines, our young men went to fight for freedom. Upon their return, the world had changed, and some were unable to find permanent work. They travelled from farm to farm, seeking what work they could. As a signal to those who might follow, when they left a farm where the food was good and the pay fair, they would make a small stack of stones on a fencepost at the farm gate.

We celebrate that tradition with our name, 3 stones and we salute all of those who have gone before, who made it possible for us to work the soil under clear skies.

Winemaker's Notes:

Made with full extraction and long skin contact, this wine is made to maximize body and weight while having long silky tannins. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of ripe dark cherry and blackberry notes with mocha, clove and a hint of vanilla. This wine offers lush, juicy cherry and blueberry flavors. On the palate, sweet vanilla, clove, and a hint of cinnamon are brought forth by the nuances of French oak aging. Seamless with a nice long finish, this wine is very elegant with a fine structure.

Atlas Peak was established in 1987. Over time it became clear that Atlas Peak's most valuable hidden resource was literally underfoot: the elevation of its vineyards. The grapes growing at high elevation, and above the natural fog line, experience much lower daytime temperatures than those on the valley floor, allowing the grapes to stay cool while gaining maximum sun exposure. As a result, growers up on the mountain can afford to harvest later and pick for flavor with less worry about over ripening and excessive alcohol. No grape develops as well in mountain conditions as Cabernet Sauvignon.

Roederer Estate Brut, the first California sparkling wine produced by Champagne Louis Roederer, builds upon a 200-year tradition of fine winemaking that has made Roederer champagne among the most sought-after in the world.

Roederer's winemaking style is based on two elements: ownership of its own vineyards and the addition of oak-aged reserve wines to each year's blend or cuvee. All the grapes for the Anderson Valley wines are grown on the Estate.

Each year, the winemaker selects a portion of the best wines for aging in Center of France oak casks. Aged from one to three years, wines from this reserve cellar are added to the blend, creating a multi-vintage cuvee in the traditional Roederer style, known for its body, finesse and depth of flavor.

The Roederer Estate Brut debuted in October 1988, and has since established its reputation as one of California's premier sparklers, remaining true to the heritage of excellence and style of its French forebears.

Winemaker's Notes:

The mostly old vines that make up our Teldeschi are Zinfandel, Carignane, and Petite Sirah, a mélange typical of older vineyard plantings in California. The three varieties are fermented separately and blended to taste. Native yeast fermentation, small open-top fermenters, manual punching down of the cap, minimal processing, and aging in small French oak cooperage all contribute to a style that brings out the best of the vineyard—power and big flavors. Teldeschi Vineyard is always the highest quality of the Zinfandel vineyards that Ravenswood crushes from the Dry Creek Valley.

The 2007 Teldeschi Zinfandel is richly perfumed with scents of black raspberry, apricot, and aromatic spices. Subtle tobacco flavors mingle with flavors of plum and cherry. Red and dark berries dominate the flavor, where they are joined by the typical Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel characters of vanilla, cherry, and sweet plum-like fruit.
