Winemaker's Notes:

The darkly pigmented 2007 Insignia is a perfect example of the amazing color this vintage produced. Rich aromatics of mineral, baking spices, dark chocolate, graphite, and opulent plum and blackberry lead to the concentrated and balanced mouthfeel. Silky, well structured tannins, core black fruit and sweet oak notes from our estate vineyards create length and weight that will allow this beautiful wine to age, as well as remain approachable in its youth.

About Joseph Phelps Vineyards:

Joseph Phelps Vineyards is a family-owned winery committed to crafting world class, estate-grown wines. Founded in 1973 when Joe Phelps purchased a former cattle ranch near St. Helena in the Napa Valley, the winery now controls and farms nearly 375 acres of vines on eight estate vineyards in St. Helena, the Stags Leap District, Oakville, Rutherford, Oak Knoll District, Carneros and South Napa Valley. In 1999, the Phelps family added 100 acres of vineyard property near the town of Freestone on the Sonoma Coast, where Phelps now grows Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Phelps is best known for its flagship Napa Valley blend of red Bordeaux varietals, Insignia, first produced in 1974. Awarded Wine Spectator's "Wine of the Year" in 2005, Insignia is widely regarded as a qualitative benchmark for California winemaking.

Winemaker's Notes:

Lassègue is the essence of opulent ripe and very rich Cabernet Franc with a dense Merlot character plus a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine expresses a delicacy, elegance and a high complexity. With a voluptuous, layered and complex structure, this wine is already showing an accomplished character, which reflects the limestone and clay of the hillsides.

Additional wines from Chateau Lassegue:

About Chateau Lassegue:

Chateau Lassegue is located in Saint Emilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux, France. Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke have teamed up with Vigneron Winemaster Pierre Seillan to bring new life to this beautiful estate. With plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, a long sun exposure, limestone soils and Pierre's philosophy of "Micro-cru", exceptional wines are made from this estate. Two Saint Emilion Grand Crus are produced at Château Lassègue: Lassègue and Château Vignot.

Winemaker's Notes:

Le Carre is a single-vineyard of just over one and a half hectares that abuts Clos Fourtet near the centre of the town of Saint Emilion. The wine is a dense purple color. Abundant quantities of black fruits, crushed rocks and flowers nicely wrapped in new oak, where it receives it's malolactic fermentation and aging. Whilst the main part of the wine is made up by Merlot, there is also a Cabernet Franc compliment.

Winemaker's Notes:

After winemaking, strictly executed by Mr. Bernard Audoy himself, an œnologist who graduated from the Bordeaux Oenology Institute, the wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels, 30 to 50% of which are renewed each year. After fining with egg-white, the whole vintage is bottled at the château.

The wines produced show a lovely color, a rich, complex nose and a structure typical of Saint-Estèphe. Château Cos-Labory is a member of the Académie du Vin de Bordeaux, of the Commanderie du Bontemps du Médoc et des Graves, and also of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.

My Notes:

About Chateau Cos Labory:

The name of the estate comes from its geographical location on the Cos hill and the name of François Labory, who was the first owner until 1845. Chateau Cos Labory is a real family property, where the generations have genuinely labored already for nearly a century for the estate to blossom and grow. This family philosophy that is a gentle mix of wisdom and strength is what the Cos Labory signature stands for.
