 The 2010 Heritance Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley is an assemblage of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. This is a classic wine with a beautiful, spun-gold hue, highlighted with tinges of lime green. The nose features a refreshing fruity combination of fresh berry with a touch of tropical and fig fragrances. This is a well-centered wine, that is round across the palate, fleshy and attractive, yet elegant with a long finish.

About Heritance:

 Born in Cognac, France and mentored by his father, a régisseur (technical director) at Château Lafite, it would have been have been easy for Bernard Portet to continue his family’s wine tradition in France. Instead, the ninth generation French vintner studied viticulture and enology in Toulouse and Montpellier and then, upon graduation, set out to explore wine regions around the world.

Today, Bernard Portet brings us the wines of Heritance where he continues to make wine using his signature assemblage style. His goal is simple: blend wines from different varieties and terroirs to create finished wines greater than the sum of their parts. It is a style that creates uniquely distinctive wines, which showcase Bernard’s extensive Napa Valley experience.

Winemaker's Notes:

 In 2008, cool and dry conditions during berry ripening encouraged the development of excellent avours and crisp acidity. The unexpected heat wave in March caused the most condensed harvest in McLaren Vale's history. Our cooler weather in the northern foothills of Blewitt Springs offset much of the heat – resulting in tiny, intensely-flavored berries and concentrated wines with rm structure and vibrant aromatics.

This wine has feisty yet adult aromas of white pepper, and smells of red Australian earth in the summer. The blackberry and mulberry fruits taste as if they've been gently stewed to a conserve, with whole berries remaining in the pulp. The finish is teasing and appetizing with savory dark green tannins and an elegant, refined attitude.

 The fruit is hand picked determined by flavour, then is destemmed and crushed into 3t open fermenters.The Shiraz is inoculated with Lalvin Syrah yeast. Hand plunging takes place four times per day. The wine is fermented to dryness on skins, average twelve to fourteen days. It is then basket pressed, transferred to tank and left overnight to settle before being put into barrel. Barrels are a combination of Vicard, Cadus and Saury. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel; the wine is then racked three times over the seventeen months. The wine is then course filtered, sulphured and bottled. All process takes place on premise.

About Oliverhill:

 Oliverhill is a small boutique winery (McLaren Vale has been refined to as the spiritual home of the small winery in Australia) that specializes in premium quality limited production reds. Specifically, a single vineyard Shiraz, “Jimmy Section”, coming from a small 5-acre plot planted nearly 30 years ago an old vine Grenache, “Bradey Block”, made from vines up to 80 years old and a Cabernet Sauvignon produced from the “Jimmy Section” vineyard. The Grenache and the Shiraz represent the classic South Australian style, big and juicy with sweet black fruits, brood shouldered with substantial palate presence, yet maintaining balance and exceptional fruit intensity. The Cabernet Sauvignon although not as big and mouth filling texturally maintains noted fruit intensity with a long and persistent finish. All 3 reds are produced in an extremely limited format with total production hovering around 1000 cases total. The Millers, producing handcrafted wines that are truly artisan in style, will never produce a lot of wine but what they do produce will always be of the highest quality.

 Elegant and complex aromas of bing cherries, cranberries, red currants, raspberries and strawberries, a combination of wild flowers and fresh forest berries that epitomize Oregon Pinot Noir. The juicy red fruit flavors open the attack then evolve in the mouth to darker fruit flavors with spice and mineral overtones. The wine shows ripe tannins and a succulent texture that give definition and lift to the surprisingly long finish. Although the 2010 A to Z Pinot Noir is drinking well now, it has the focus, balance and intensity to age and will become more complex over the next 5-10 years.
