About  Pedroncelli Winery:

Pedroncelli Winery has come a long way since 1927, when John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased vineyards and a small winery in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley. Today, the vineyards are planted to premium grape varieties, the winery is filled with modern equipment, and wines bearing the Pedroncelli name grace tables from coast to coast. But two elements from 70 years ago remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family grows grapes, and the family's dedication to making fine wines.

Additional wines from Columbia Crest:

About Columbia Crest:

Founded in 1983, Columbia Crest has grown from a small winery in a relatively unknown wine region to one of the most significant wineries in the U.S. and a major force behind Washington state's emergence as a world-class wine region. Over the years, the winery has remained committed to delivery handcrafted, small-lot wines, as well as affordable, superior quality everyday wines. In 2009, the winery reached a milestone when Wine Spectator named their 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon "Wine of the Year," the first time a wine from Washington state has received the ranking. This accolade was not only a historic moment for Columbia Crest, but for all wineries in Washington and reinforced the belief that the region is among the best wine-producing areas in the world.

The Wine Advocate rating: 90 points
PRICE ON 7/10/2014: $22.99

Winemaker's Notes:

Intense ruby red in color and extremely concentrated, Carmione offers a powerful bouquet of sweet wild berries, cedar, licorice and spices. This is a full-bodied, rich, well structured wine with jammy fruit, fine tannins and a persistent finish.

Powerful and complex, Carmione is excellent with grilled steak, game, ribs and aged cheeses.

About Pratesi:

Situated on 12 acres of land, perched on the hills of Carmignano, near the town of Capezzano, Pratesi has been producing some of Tuscany’s finest wines since the early 1980’s. Carmignano and its glorious past has only recently been able to reestablish itself as a wine of great strength and character by receiving DOCG status. Pratesi, eagerly, has not missed a beat. During the first vintage of "Carmignano" D.O.C.G. in 1983, Pratesi yielded 3,000 to 4,000 bottles. In 1995 Pratesi earned their first gold medal for their 1991 "Carmignano" Riserve from Pramaggiore, an award reserved to Italian D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. only wines. Since 1997 changes have been taking place at the winery with the construction of a new wine cellar and the addition of new vines that will permit them to increase the production and finally bring the 2001 harvest to a total of 45,000 bottles including a third red wine. The company’s goal is to produce wines of the highest quality by maintaining its careful and strict selection and to continue to meet the criteria and expectations of excellence.

Winemaker's Notes:

This Antiguas Reservas' vintage shows an intense red color with hints of violet and burgundy. It has an expressive nose, with aromas of red berries and black cherries. In mouth, it is nice and fruity, with notes of ripe plum. Its rich acidity and soft tannins makes it a well structured and elegant wine.

It is an ideal wine to accompany red meats like steak with mushrooms, stewed lamb, doves, partridges and kidneys in sherry.

Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

About Cousino Macul:

In 2006, Cousiño-Macul celebrated its 150th anniversary. The Cousiño family's wine estate in Santiago was established in 1856. Five years ago, the Cousiños moved many of their vines to a new estate at Buin, and built a new winery there. Few wine producers have the opportunity to make a completely new start, incorporating the best of their age-old experience, their unique vines from their personal greenhouse and the most contemporary technology available.

As the technology continues to advance in the vineyards and in the wineries around the world, Cousiño Macul has seized this opportunity and taken a grand leap into the future. Although moving quickly into the future, they take with them the most important part of their long history - their genetic plant material that was originally brought into Chile in 1863. The Cousiño's vineyard and winery in Macul became the proudest achievement of the family. The new vineyard and winery in Buin are now in the hands of the sixth generation.
