(search item no. 119814)

PRICE ON 11/27/2014: $15.99

Winemaker's Notes:

Yellow in color, with silver-plated reflections. The nose is delicate, with aromas of white flowers. On the palate, exotic fruit flavors mingle beautifully with vanilla. It is ample and supple, with a soft finish.

Pair with shrimp cocktail, sushi, salmon or other fish in a light sauce.

My Notes:

About Domaine du Clos Roussely:

Domaine du Clos Roussely welcomes you to Angé in the Loir-et-Cher. After returning from New World at age 25, Vincent created the domaine which was his childhood dream. On one side, 8 hectares of vineyard had been cultivated by his grandfather 20 years earlier, and another 15 hectares surrounding an old farmhouse. He works his vineyard by respecting the the natural biodiversity and harvests by hand. The wines are both festive and surprising. He can cite "Spirit of the Clos," a selection of Sauvignon vines 45 years, "Libertine" a delight from the over-ripe Sauvignon or "Anthology of the Clos," a subtle blend of Cabernet and Cot (Malbec).

Winemaker's Notes:

This brilliantly ruby tinted wine has classic aromas of cherries, red currants and raspberries with more subtle hints of baking spice and vanilla layered in. On the palate, it exhibits lithe fruitiness and lingering cherry and berry flavors. The wine shows extraordinary balance and finesse with fine grained tannins that provide a nice framework to the silky mid-palate.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Benton Lane:

About Benton Lane:

Steve and Carol Girard have been owners of Benton-Lane since 1988. Carol and Steve shared a passionate desire to produce great Pinot Noir but decided their native California was probably not the best place in which to make it. Instead, they headed to Oregon where the cooler climate offered the possibility of producing Pinot Noir with better balance and structure.

After countless months of looking at possible properties, Carol and Steve discovered an old sheep ranch called "Sunnymount" in the southern Willamette Valley. It was immediately apparent Sunnymount held great potential as a vineyard site. The property is in the foothills of the costal mountain range on the west side of the valley with hillsides sloping east by southeast, a perfect orientation for planting Pinot Noir.

Sunnymount straddled the border between Benton and Lane counties with some of the land being in each, and so the name Benton-Lane was born. Carol and Steve purchased the property in 1988 and planting of Pinot Noir commenced in 1989. Benton-Lane’s first vintage was 1992 which was custom produced at another local winery. This process continued until 1997 when the Benton-Lane winery was constructed.

Benton-Lane produced Pinot Noir exclusively until 2003. In 2004, the winery began full-scale commercial production of Pinot Gris from grapes purchased from carefully selected Willamette Valley growers.

On the nose, this vintage of Foggy Oaks Chardonnay offers lush, luxurious aromas of melon and honeysuckle. On the palate, the wine is rich and textured with excellent acidity to balance out the apricot, pineapple and vanilla notes. A wonderful flintiness holds the wine together with bright citrus characters and buttery richness. Balanced from start to finish this beautiful wine has wonderful structure and balance.

Additional wines from Dry Creek Vineyard:

About Dry Creek Vineyard:

In 1972, when David S. Stare opened the doors to Dry Creek Vineyard, it was the first new winery to be built in the Valley since Prohibition. Dry Creek created the first Sonoma Fume Blanc, originated the Dry Creek Valley AVA, and was an early advocate for Bordeaux-style blending.

Today, Dry Creek Vineyard is committed to vineyard diversity, vinifying individual lots of fruit separately, and then blending carefully for each final cuvee. Dry Creek Vineyard is also a leader in the stewardship of pre-Prohibition Zinfandel vines and vineyards, and has isolated a clone, called the "Heritage Clone," which is bottled separately from their "Old Vines" Zinfandel (containing wine only from vines no younger than 50 years old), and which has made very promising wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Pale golden color with oily, filling, yellow fruit. The palate is bone dry but the luscious roundness makes it appear much more mouth-watering and full. There is a lingering presence of lychee fruit, slate, Earl Gray tea, soft vanilla, sage, and balanced acid. Very powerful and beautiful at the same time.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Chehalem:

About Chehalem:

With two vineyards on either end of Chehalem Ridge and one in the Dundee Hills, Chehalem is dedicated to reflecting as purely as possible what the vineyard has produced. With minimal processing and without compromising great fruit, Chehalem wines promise good ageing but are very drinkable young. Production quantities of all Chehalem wines are limited, to assure ultimate winemaking control.

Garnet in color, with notes of tart cherry pie, complexed by earthy, forest floor on the nose. Soft silky tannins are complemented by flavors of cherries, raspberries and cherry gumdrops. This is a vintage that Pinot purists will love, exhibiting all the grace, earth and fruit that Pinot Noir shows when grown in the right place and handled with care by the right winemaking team.

About Dobbes Family Estate:

Dobbes Family Estate is the pinnacle of Joe Dobbes' winemaking efforts, hinting at the decades of experience behind it. The opulent and age-worthy wines are produced from premier vineyards in Oregon's Willamette and Rogue Valleys. Though a small-town boy raised in Willamette Valley, Joe Dobbes' wine calling originated far from his home country. Stints in the Nahe and Burgundy regions provided Joe with a solid foundation in the Old World of winemaking before returning to the U.S. and eventually beginning Joe Dobbes Wines in 2002. The estate vineyards cover some 214 acres in Willamette Valley and, in addition, Joe works closely with a number of elite Oregon vineyards to release single-vineyard wines and masterful cuvées under three labels - Dobbes Family Estate, Jovino and Wine By Joe.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wine was aged in Hungarian oak for 24 months giving it a toasty oak walnut and brown sugar nose, with definite blueberry and boysenberry fruit swirled in. On the palate it is rich and complex with well rounded integrated tannins, bright and intense dark blackberry and blueberry fruit and a long finish with a hint of anise and black pepper.

A big, rich, hearty wine that is meant for food. It will pair well with red meat, lamb and pasta dishes. It is ready to drink now through 2014.

My Notes:

About Shell Creek:

Since 1875 the Sinton (once Sinsheimer) family has been ranching the rolling, oak filled hills and cultivating the valleys of San Luis Obispo County. In 1972, nearly 75 years after acquiring the 5000+ acre Canyon Ranch, we planted our first grape vines and formally started Shell Creek Vineyards. The name of the vineyard comes from a seasonal creek that runs through the property, carrying small pieces of fossilized shells that are found farther upstream on the ranch. Jim started the vineyard with his nephew, Tom Sinton, in order to diversify from the cattle ranch

James and Norma Sinton built their home on the Canyon Ranch in 1940 and were joined by their son, Steve and his wife Jane in 1978. Jane has actively overseen the vineyard for over 30 years. Steve's sisters, Patricia and Gail and their husbands, Hayes and Don (respectively), are also actively involved in the family business. Steve and Jane’s son, Daniel, and his wife, Megan, plan to move to the ranch in 2012 to carry on the family tradtion, while their daughter, Julie and her husband, Brian Pruniski, help with marketing and financial advise from their home in Redwood City.

Winemaker's Notes:

The color is deep purplish red, with a nose of red fruits such as plums, blackberries, hints of vanilla, coffee and chocolate. The palate is intense, with good volume and prolonged persistence. The excellent balance of oak and the characteristics of this variety make this wine is powerful, complex and meaty.

Great with grilled meats, pasta with red sauce and red meats.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Fincas Don Martino:

About Fincas Don Martino:

Fincas Don Martino is a creation of famed agronomist Mauricio Parodi and Buenos Aires Businessman Hugo Martino. The project began in 2002 when Parodi fell in love with the quality of fruit from "Viña Violeta", a small 18.5 acre vineyard in Agrelo, a sub-district within the Luján de Cuyo appellation of Mendoza. The vines, planted in 1926, are ungrafted Malbec clones originally brought to Argentina from France. The vineyard's high elevation (3,850 feet) allows the grapes to develop tremendous complexity via an extended growing season and large daily temperature fluctuations.

In addition to the two Malbec wines they produce out of the "Vina Violeta" site, the winery has recently begun producing small quantities of old vine Semillon from a heritage vineyard in Perdriel. As production is limited by the small size of these two vineyards, each of these wines have become "cult" items in their native Mendoza. All are produced organically and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Chateau de Lancyre is arguably the best domaine in the Languedoc's top wine district, Pic St. Loup. The Lancyre Roussanne offers aromas of peaches and country hay on the nose, with just a touch of spearmint and honey. It is big, bold and crisp, with great freshness on the palate. Enjoy this unoaked wine on its own or with poultry, creamy pasta dishes, or seafood (especially sole or fried calamari). 90% Roussanne, 10% Viognier.

Winemaker's Notes:

Brilliant pale yellow with hints of green. Ripe sub-tropical fruits and citrus aromas. Very lively and enticing. Medium bodied and dry with elegant balance. The fruit and citrus aromas on the nose evolve on the palate in an array of fruit flavors. Enjoy with chicken and turkey entrées, fish and grilled vegetables.

MandraRossa is a premium range of estate-bottled wines from one of Sicily's most respected and progressive wine producers. Located in the historic town of Menfi in the southwest corner of this idyllic Mediterranean island.

My Notes:

About MandraRossa:

The perfect Mediterranean climate and terroir of Sicily are ideally suited for making wine. Of course, the best winemaking requires more than natural gifts. Enter Settesoli, one of Europe’s largest and most respected wineries.

Led by Diego Planeta, president of Settesoli, in the early ‘90s, with single-minded focus, Planeta made an all-out commitment to the creation of top quality wines. He began by planting the best international and local grape varieties and invested extensively in innovative winemaking technology and state-of-the-art equipment. In addition, he formed a distinguished team of winemakers, led by internationally-renowned oenologist Carlo Corino.

The making of these wines began by mapping every parcel of vineyard for aspect, gradient and altitude, so that the ideal terroir for each varietal could be selected for planting. The wines resulting from these intensive efforts were proudly introduced under the MandraRossa name.

The intense Sicilian sun, offset by cooling sea breezes, permits reliable and extended ripening of the grapes. MandraRossa wines are hand-picked, and every harvested parcel is crushed and fermented separately to retain the grapes’ characteristics. Wines from individual parcels are carefully blended for nuanced complexity, yielding delicate scents and harmonious, fresh flavors.
