My Notes:

About Chateau Barde Haut:

CHATEAU BARDE-HAUT is a 17 hectare estate located at the extreme east of the village of Saint-Emilion. The vineyard forms an natural amphitheatre and is particularly well exposed to the south. The soil is very typical of Saint Emilion being mainly composed of clay which is found on a layer of chalk.

There has been significant investment in renovating the cellar so that all work is completely done by gravity to ensure that the precious grapes of the Château are well respected. The cellar is equiped with wooden vats, stainless steel tanks and concrete vats of 50 to 70 hl. A strict policy of selection to ensure the quality is undertaken and individual steps including pigeage are all carried out by hand. It is the combination of exceptional soil and the introduction of natural wine producing and winegrowing technologies combining tradition and modernity that have made CHATEAU BARDE-HAUT one of the rising stars of Saint Emilion.

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2007 Napa Cabernet is very dark red in color with aromas of currents, black cherry, violets, and cedar along with vanilla and toasty oak. The mouthfeel is generous with fine tannins and a long finish.

We recommend pairing this wine with a seared NY strip steak.

Typical of the 2007 vintage, this cabernet will drink very well in its youth, but will age gracefully for the next 10 years and beyond.

Winemaker's Notes:

Chateau Hyot is a deep ruby color, with a clear shine, revealing a structured nose of ripe fruit with hints of pepper. Remarkable balance and soft silky tannins sustain a long and memorable finish.
My Notes:

About Chateau Hyot:

Chateau Hyot showcases the masterful skill of winemaker Amelie Aubert and consultant Michel Rolland. The wine is a Merlot-based blend, from 40 year-old vines, with Cabernet Franc bringing sophisticated aromas and silky tannins, and a dose of Cabernet Sauvignon for a structural backbone.

A deep respect for the vine is the driving force behind Amelie Aubert's philosophy and approach to making wine. "Quality is not possible with quantity," she explains, "and I want my wine to capture the essence of this fantastic terroir."

Winemaker's Notes:

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 1.5% Merlot and 1.5% Malbec.

The mountain fruit in our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon contributes to the wine's structure. The addition of Petit Verdot gives this wine its depth, while Merlot adds sweetness and Malbec contributes a hint of soft blueberry fruit. This wine exhibits flavors of blackberry, black cherry, bay and thyme with an oak profile of vanilla and toasted nuts. Its soft, rich tannins make it a very approachable wine that is ready to drink now but equally suitable for hanging onto for years.

Additional wines from Murphy-Goode:

About Murphy-Goode:

Twenty years ago, Tim Murphy, Dale Goode and Dave Ready shared a vision: grow distinctive grapes, produce delicious wine, have fun and make friends in the process. They founded their three-family partnership in 1985 and launched the brand with two wines: estate grown Fumé Blanc and Chardonnay.

In the beginning, only the Murphy family's ranch and the Murphy-Goode Vineyard provided the grapes. Over the years, Murphy-Goode Winery steadily increased production, expanding the winery capacity and augmenting the harvest with fruit from the winery's "grower partners," local farmers and neighbors who shared the Murphy-Goode vision.

Initially the partners custom-crushed their grapes at a neighboring winery; consultant Merry Edwards guided the winemaking. After constructing a modest production facility on Tim Murphy's Alexander Valley ranch in 1987, they hired Winemaker Christina Benz. Chris made fifteen vintages of Murphy-Goode wine before turning the winemaking over to David Ready Jr. in 2001.

In recent years, the winery's focus has shifted from primarily white wine to distinctive red wines, particularly Bordeaux blends. Today, Murphy's three sons oversee the vineyards. Dave Ready's two sons make the wine. With exceptional grapes, inspired winemaking and the guiding values of the founding partners, the Murphy-Goode team is entering a fresh, new era of excellence.
