Winemaker's Notes:

Made from 100% Brachetto.

Festive cranberry in color with a haunting, aromatic bouquet with hints of raspberries, strawberries and hints of rose petals. A fresh raspberry taste, with crisp acidity, enticing the palate with an initial softness, graduating to a round and luscious finish.

About Castello Banfi:

In 1978 John and Harry Mariani, owners of the U.S. wine importer Banfi Vintners, established the award winning vineyard estate and winery Castello Banfi in the Brunello region of Tuscany. A constellation of single vineyards located on ideal sites cover about one third of the 7,100 acre (2,830 hectares) estate. The remaining land consists of bucolic meadows, olive and plum groves, and woodland. Central to the property is a medieval castle that functions as a hospitality center, hosting visitors at a full service restaurant, enoteca and museum dedicated to the history of glass and its relation to wine.

The delightful and distinctive character of La Vieille Ferme Rose is the judicious blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah grapes.

Additional wines from La Vieille Ferme:

About La Vieille Ferme:

Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.

Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value.

Colombelle Cotes de Gascogne Blanc 2006
Colombelle Cotes de Gascogne Blanc 2006
(search item no. 95256)

PRICE ON 12/19/2014: $10.79

ratings pedigree (past vintages):
2007 Wine & Spirits rating: 88 points

Winemaker's Notes:

Nose: floral and fruity, with a dominance of citrus aromas. Grapefruit aromas are mixed with mango and peach fragrances.

Palate: Very fresh with roundness and suppleness in the entry. The mid-palate displays crispness from the citrus notes followed by rounder fruit and viscosity, with hints of pear and pineapple.

An everyday, easy to drink wine, it is an ideal aperitif to go along with cheese and crackers. It is also a spectacular match with seafood, lighter pastas, Asian cuisine (Thai, Chinese and Japanese), spicy dishes, white meat and desserts (such as apple pie and cheesecake).

My Notes:

About Colombelle:

The Vin de Pays de Côtes de Gascogne are regional wines produced in the Gers department. The appellation, created in 1982, was developed after most of the Armagnac vineyards were converted into table wine vineyards. With its oceanic climate tempered by the Landes forests to the west, the Pyrenees to the south and just the right mix of sunshine, rain and coolness the Gers provides ideal conditions to get the best from its vineyards. Our wines also draw their distinctive flavors from the great wealth of Gascony''s soil.
