Winemaker's Notes:

Vivid color with an eyecatchingly subtle green hue. A bouquet of dried cut grass with herb and stoneflint compliment passionfruit and pungent citrusy aromas. The palate opens with a wonderfully vibrant freshness, developing floral and peachy aromas. Ripe zesty citrus flavours build through the succulent juicy acidity and signature minerality of the long finish.

Pair with roasted asparagus with goat's cheese and honey.

Additional wines from The Crossings:

About The Crossings:

We have arrived at The Crossings in 2002 after a seven year development journey. This began in 1995 when an exceptional site in the upper reaches of the Awatere Valley was identified. The site, with its massive clay cliffs acting to trap heat, its low frost incidence and the devigorating outwash gravel soils, was just perfect to produce classic Awatere wines of outstanding quality. The first vineyard development was made possible by the investment from a group of New Zealanders each sharing an interest in wine and the desire to invest in this unique opportunity. Interest was sufficient to allow for the development of a further two Awatere vineyards to compliment the initial vineyard in terms of terroir and flavour coming from the grapes grown on each site. By 2000 there were over 400 enthusiastic investors taking a keen interest in the vineyards and wine making developments, each calling The Crossings "our wine". From the beginning The Crossings had outstanding land, great vineyards, tremendous support and a dedicated team to bring together the crucial ingredients to produce wines of stand-out quality. The first wines made in 2001 show the character of the vineyards and The Crossings philosophy of wine and viticulture. See what we mean; open a bottle and quietly explore corners of this magnificent valley in your own time.

Winemaker's Notes:

In Vierlas, 10 miles upriver from Cascante and just into the region of Aragón, One hundred and thirty acres of vineyard located on a unique quaternary gravel deposit called La Lombana was acquired in its entirety through dozens of individual transactions during the late 1990s. Taking full advantage of La Lombana's complex vineyard composition. Spicy, refreshing, intense and long in finish - a seriously FUN red wine for frequent consumption. Unique, complex blend of 45% Merlot, 30% Syrah, 18% Tempranillo and 7% Graciano.
My Notes:

About Bodegas Guelbenzu:

In 1851, the Guelbenzu family of Cascante presented wine, olive oil and wheat at the First Universal Exposition in London's Prince Albert Pavilion (Paris 1855 being the second such world's fair). Don Miguel Guelbenzu had graduated in chemistry from the Sorbonne in Paris, and he returned home with the latest techniques in contemporary winemaking. Quality was the aim from the inception, and Gold Medals awarded the family's wines at the Exposition Universelle Bordeaux 1882, Navarra Exposition 1882 and Barcelona 1888. After Don Miguel, commercialization of wine under the family name declined. Don Miguel's great-grandchildren, eight siblings pooling their resources at that time, initiated renovation of the vineyards and winery in 1980. 1989 was the first vintage from the re-launched family vineyard estate.

98 acres of vines planted in 1980 to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 30% Tempranillo, dispersed in numerous small plots encircling Cascante in the Queiles River Valley. The 7,600-foot Sierra del Moncayo rises just 20 miles to the south, its late-melting snows providing adequate moisture in the sub soils to withstand summer droughts. The vineyards lie between 1200 and 1800 feet, ripening the grapes in stages for an unhurried and perfectly timed harvest.

The modern winery maintains Don Miguel's original gravity-flow design from 1851, and is a gem of space utilization. Stainless fermentation tanks were inserted through the roof of building formerly devoted to olive oil production, while custom-made 10,000-litre Aillers oak uprights (for assemblage) fill the original cellar. Barriques are of various French oak types in which Guelbenzu's aged reds spend one full year prior to bottling, racked four times. The enologist, Yoseba Altuna, is a French educated native of Navarra with experience in a top Bordeaux Chateaux.

Winemaker's Notes:

Packed with full red-berry flavours, touches of cinnamon and nutmeg spices, and soft tannins, this wine should pair well with most red meats or poultry. The sweet fruit flavours of Pinotage make it an ideal match for spicy curries. A modern-style of Pinotage. Serve at a cool room temperature.

Additional wines from MAN Vintners:

About MAN Vintners:

"This MAN thing all began with three friends and an idea: to make a wine that we ourselves would love to buy. Good quality, good value, good packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us into action. What do we name it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the first initials of our wives. (We each have one wife, that is.) So this is how we explained to Marie, Anette, and Nicky that we were going to be "busy" most weekends. It's for you! we told them. And it's mostly true. But MAN is not only about woMAN, it is about MANkind and huMANity as well. Remember, Africa is the cradle of MAN!

For those of you that have experienced South Africa, it won't be a surprise if we state (objectively) that this is the most heavenly spot on earth. The winelands are stunning, with dramatic mountains, lush rolling vineyards, and that African blue sky. Taste a bit of Africa!"

Winemaker's Notes:

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva Cava, created from a blend of reserve and non-vintage wines, is clean and delicate, yet rich in flavor.

Brut is a cuvée of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo grapes grown in the renowned Penedès region of Spain. The wine is vinified according to méthode champenoise technique and is aged in the bottle for up to 2 years.

This fine cuvée is fairly crisp with an interesting floral note and mouth-pleasing sensation of creaminess.

Additional wines from Finca Luzon:

About Finca Luzon:

The estate was founded by the Gil family in 1916. For almost a century now they have strived to create wines that not only reflect the terroir of Jumilla but have an intense expression of the fruit and represent a good value in the market. They have achieved this goal through meticulous vineyard management and by adopting the latest technologies of winemaking available. The winery is located west of the town of Jumilla.

The grapes are sourced from the family-owned estate of 216 acres. The estate is surrounded by small mountains, 60 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. The vineyards are at the altitude of 1,500-2,100 ft. The soils are a combination of sand and chalk covered with chalky gravel and stones. Jumilla has a continental climate due to the high altitude of the region, despite the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea; there are large fluctuations in temperature from day to night during the growing season and cold winters. Rainfall is scant.
