Winemaker's Notes:

This incredible Sauvignon Blanc displays the excellent cool climate characters of the vintage. At first swirl, vibrant lemon grass, citrus peel, and pineapple aromas leap from the glass. Several more minutes of airing display wonderful nuances of orange zest and delicate floral characters. On the palate, the wine is zesty and full of energy repeating the aromatic themes of lemon grass and lemon verbena along with underlying tropical fruit richness. The finish is full flavored and balanced ending with juicy, mouthwatering acidity.

Additional wines from Dry Creek Vineyard:

About Dry Creek Vineyard:

In 1972, when David S. Stare opened the doors to Dry Creek Vineyard, it was the first new winery to be built in the Valley since Prohibition. Dry Creek created the first Sonoma Fume Blanc, originated the Dry Creek Valley AVA, and was an early advocate for Bordeaux-style blending.

Today, Dry Creek Vineyard is committed to vineyard diversity, vinifying individual lots of fruit separately, and then blending carefully for each final cuvee. Dry Creek Vineyard is also a leader in the stewardship of pre-Prohibition Zinfandel vines and vineyards, and has isolated a clone, called the "Heritage Clone," which is bottled separately from their "Old Vines" Zinfandel (containing wine only from vines no younger than 50 years old), and which has made very promising wines.

Winemaker's Notes:

Pleasantly devious mischief abounds from the dry-farmed, head pruned, old vine vineyards in the Shenendoah Valley. This Sierra Foothill valley is renowned for its old vine Zin vineyards, where fiery red volcanic soils produce fruit with intense, earthy character. The 100-plus-year old vines of the original Grandpere Vineyard, along with the 40-year old vines of The Deaver and Linstead Vineyards produce a wine that is chewy and spicy, rich with blackberry fruit and a hint of velvet vanilla oak. Blended with a touch of Syrah from the Bailey Vineyard. Maverick... The Jam Bomb... mischievous fun!
My Notes:

Additional wines from Four Vines:

About Four Vines:

In 1994 Four Vines Winery kicked into gear featuring eclectic, appellation-specific Zins, and one kick-ass no-oak "Naked" Chardonnay. They named their Zins Biker, The Sophisticate and Maverick. Rich, succulent, fruit-generous wines that pair incredibly well with food. The winery relocated to Paso Robles where they began experimenting with Rhone varietals; bigger, headier wines that are positively explosive in flavor and form. No matter the wine, Four Vines has always brought a refreshing, irreverent attitude to the industry. Today, the winery sources fruit from all over the state of California and crushes mainly on the Central Coast and in Sonoma County. This allows grapes to arrive at their peak of cool morning temperatures to the crush pad. It all starts in the vineyard…don't let anyone tell you anything else. In late 2010, Derek Benham acquired Four Vines from its founders and moved the winery operations back up north to Sonoma County where it originally started. Four Vines is now in a position to reach its full potential as a category leader in Unoaked Chardonnay and Zinfandel. The story continues...

Winemaker's Notes:

Medium purple in color, the 2010 Zinfandel from McManis Family Vineyards, has an abundance of red berry fruit, on the nose, such as raspberry and strawberry. This classic Zinfandel has extreme flavors of red and black raspberry. The wine is round and full, vanilla, caramel and hazelnut are noticable in the elegant finish.

Zinfandelic Amador County Old Vine Zinfandel 2006
(search item no. 104672)

PRICE ON 7/26/2014: $9.97

Winemaker's Notes:

Amador County yields a bold Old Vine Zinfandel with rich, bright raspberry and black cherry fruit complemented by hints of earth and spice that add to its complexity.

ZINFANDELIC is a tribute to the unique California wine varietal - Zinfandel. It is also a tribute the California movement & culture of the 1960s - Flower Power, Haight Ashbury, Summer of Love, Rock & Roll, etc. The label is reminiscent of rock posters of the sixties era.

The zinfandel vineyards are situated at a higher altitude in Amador County in California at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains – also known as Gold Country. The vineyards were sustainably farmed from old vines of approximately 40 years old.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Zinfandelic:

About Zinfandelic:

ZINFANDELIC is a tribute to the unique California wine varietal, Zinfandel, and the California movement & culture of the 1960s.

Located in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in central California, Amador County is renowned for producing California's finest Zinfandels, some of them crafted from 19th-century vines. This sustainably farmed old vine vineyard is planted on hillsides with soils of sandy clay loam derived from decomposed granite. Amador's warm days and cool evening breezes from the Sierras promote full ripening of the grapes and a balanced acidity, leading to robust, intensely flavored wines.

It's Zinfandelic

Zinfandel has always been the quintessential California wine. Taking on the characteristics of the regions where it's grown, the flavor of a California Zin is like the flavor of California itself. It's free love in a bottle, with a vibe all its own - at times mellow, others bold or even spicy. But it's always, dare we say, groovy.

Raymond Field Blend R Collection 2009
Raymond Field Blend R Collection 2009
(search item no. 109167)

PRICE ON 7/26/2014: $8.97

Winemaker's Notes:

The R Collection Field Blend harkens back to the early days in California viticulture when vineyards had several different varietals planted together, and an entire vineyard would be harvested and vinified together, often producing remarkably unique wines from multiple different varietals. Our winemaking team has revived this tradition of blending multiple varietals together to produce a standout wine. The 2009 R Collection Field Blend brings together 7 varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Red fruits of raspberry and bing cherry come forward on the nose, followed by aromas of anise, exotic spices of cardamom, and plum pudding. Very soft and supple on the mouth, with ripe, juicy tannins. Strawberry notes are vivid on the palate, and are intermingled with hints of cedar and a subtle tobacco finish.

Additional wines from Raymond Vineyard:

About Raymond Vineyard:

For generations, Raymond Vineyards has been an integral part of the Napa Valley, with now five generations of viticultural and winemaking expertise. Our new winemaking team captures the essence of the past while infusing the energy of the future and the vibrancy of the next generation into each and every wine. “It is important to retain the core foundation that made this brand legendary in Napa Valley, while keeping the style fresh and relevant to today’s wine drinkers” says Stephanie Putnam.

In addition to our top-notch winemakers and viticulturalists, Raymond has also tapped into a world-renowned winemaker, Phillipe Melka, to assist on our high-end Cabernets and complement the inherent strengths of the team.

As for a specific style, the team aims for the three B’s – Big, Bold, Balanced – yet with refinement and elegance. This philosophy lends itself well to the underlying principal of terroir that dates back thousands of years where the interrelationship between soil, climate, and plant are enhanced by the passion of people to convey an authentic sense of place. Our winemaking team allows the purest expression of the fruit to reign, with aromas and flavors that fill your glass and your palate with wines that are unmistakably powerful, intriguingly complex, and beautifully integrated.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2009 vintage was predominately fermented in stainless steel to retain the citrus and tropical fruit aromatics while the balance was barrel fermented in French and American oak to increase the mouthfeel and develop flavors of white peach and honeydew melon. We also use a clone of Sauvignon Blanc called Sauvignon Musqué to add a hint of orange blossom and tangerine and, for the first time ever, we blended in some estate Semillon. The Semillon adds wonderful floral notes and nice texture.

This Sauvignon Blanc ("The Fumé") pairs great with lots of food, such as thai grilled chicken and pasta with shrimp, but it also pairs just as well with you relaxing poolside.

Additional wines from Murphy-Goode:

About Murphy-Goode:

Twenty years ago, Tim Murphy, Dale Goode and Dave Ready shared a vision: grow distinctive grapes, produce delicious wine, have fun and make friends in the process. They founded their three-family partnership in 1985 and launched the brand with two wines: estate grown Fumé Blanc and Chardonnay.

In the beginning, only the Murphy family's ranch and the Murphy-Goode Vineyard provided the grapes. Over the years, Murphy-Goode Winery steadily increased production, expanding the winery capacity and augmenting the harvest with fruit from the winery's "grower partners," local farmers and neighbors who shared the Murphy-Goode vision.

Initially the partners custom-crushed their grapes at a neighboring winery; consultant Merry Edwards guided the winemaking. After constructing a modest production facility on Tim Murphy's Alexander Valley ranch in 1987, they hired Winemaker Christina Benz. Chris made fifteen vintages of Murphy-Goode wine before turning the winemaking over to David Ready Jr. in 2001.

In recent years, the winery's focus has shifted from primarily white wine to distinctive red wines, particularly Bordeaux blends. Today, Murphy's three sons oversee the vineyards. Dave Ready's two sons make the wine. With exceptional grapes, inspired winemaking and the guiding values of the founding partners, the Murphy-Goode team is entering a fresh, new era of excellence.

Winemaker's Notes:

Terra d'Oro 2006 Zinfandel is a shining example of Amador Zinfandel. We don't have to coerce character and spice from the fruit, nor do we beat it back. Dark berry fruit is generously seasoned with characteristic Shenandoah Spice. The different oak styles lend molasses, vanilla and cinnamon to a balanced lingering finish. Sweet and spicy are two classic culinary combinations.

Our chefs match many of our favorite dishes with this classic zinfandel, ranging from barbeque short ribs in chipotle dipping sauce to pan-seared filet mignon or just an old fashioned juicy cheeseburger.
