About Canard-Duchene:

1860 in Ludes, Victor Canard, A cooper, and Léonie Duchêne, from a family of "vignerons" met and fell in love. They got married, and started to make their own champagne.

Success came quickly, so they then decided to set up their own Champagne house. They joined their names together, in the true Champagne tradition, and Canard-Duchêne was born. The year was 1868.

In 1890, their son, Edmond Canard took over. He was young, bold, loved champagne, and really understood the new world which was coming up. Under his guidance, Canard-Duchêne became international champagne, especially as one of the Champagnes supplied to the court of Tsar Nicholas II.

The relationship has left its mark: from then on, the Canard Duchêne coat of arms has borne the two-headed eagle, emblem of the Russian Imperial Family. Another symbol was added later. The sabre, in memory of a tradition which is intimately linked with champagne, celebration and reward. For the last hundred years, the eagle and the sabre have been our coat of arms.

The Third generation continues on the same tracks. Since 1930, Victor Canard, the founder's grandson, gives a new life of the son. After the recent integration of Canard-Duchêne in the privately-owned group Alain Thiénot, it now occupies a strong position on the French market. At the same time, the House is developing its international markets. Long a Symbol of enjoyment and elegance, Champagne is a gift from nature. From the 300 "crus" in the Champagne region, Canard-Duchêne has chosen 60 of them, blending Pinots and Chardonnay, in order to create year after year fruity, balanced and rounded wines.

ZINFANDELIC is a tribute to the unique California wine varietal - Zinfandel. It is also a tribute the California movement & culture of the 1960s - Flower Power, Haight Ashbury, Summer of Love, Rock & Roll, etc. The label is reminiscent of rock posters of the sixties era.

About Zinfandelic:

ZINFANDELIC is a tribute to the unique California wine varietal, Zinfandel, and the California movement & culture of the 1960s.

Located in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in central California, Amador County is renowned for producing California's finest Zinfandels, some of them crafted from 19th-century vines. This sustainably farmed old vine vineyard is planted on hillsides with soils of sandy clay loam derived from decomposed granite. Amador's warm days and cool evening breezes from the Sierras promote full ripening of the grapes and a balanced acidity, leading to robust, intensely flavored wines.

It's Zinfandelic

Zinfandel has always been the quintessential California wine. Taking on the characteristics of the regions where it's grown, the flavor of a California Zin is like the flavor of California itself. It's free love in a bottle, with a vibe all its own - at times mellow, others bold or even spicy. But it's always, dare we say, groovy.

Winemaker's Notes:

Fine, abundant bubbles define the Cuvée Jean-Louis Brut; its bubbles are smaller than any of our other sparkling wines. Bright and fruity on the nose, this wine exudes aromas typical of Chenin Blanc – apples, apricots and a hint of honey. The palate holds an explosion of fine bubbles followed by a smooth, fruity finish.

A blend of all white grapes from the Loire Valley, Charentes, and PACA region (Provence-Alps-Côte d'Azur): Chenin Blanc (40%), Ugni Blanc (20%) and various other grapes that change each year to ensure that our style remains consistent.

My Notes:

About Charles de Fere:

Charles de Fère came to life in 1980 when an innovative sixth generation winemaker from Champagne, Jean-Louis, decided to start his own sparkling winery in a town called Fère-en-Tardois, just outside Champagne. Named in his honor, Cuvée Jean-Louis embodies his audacious vision of crafting high-quality sparkling wines from grapes grown throughout France, strongly believing that a more diverse sourcing strategy would allow him access to the best possible grapes each year. Northern vineyards brought freshness and elegance, while southern vineyards provided beautifully ripe fruit, body and smoothness to the wines. In honor of his son Charles, he named his winery Charles de Fère, meaning "Charles from Fère."

Today, Charles de Fère wines are crafted in Burgundy at the Boisset family's state-of-the-art sparkling wine facility. True to its roots, Charles de Fère’s grapes continue to come from diverse terroirs throughout France, ensuring the best possible fruit for consistently excellent sparkling wines at a great value.

Very attractive deep ruby red in color. Aromas of blackcurrant and raspberries explode on the nose. The attack is extremely round and smooth. The wine is full-bodied on the palate, showing ample fruit, abundant freshness and silky, yet noticeable tannins, all held within a firm structure. Delicate hints of oak intermingle with this harmonious ensemble. The lengthy and weighty finish evolves towards more spicy notes. The power and balance in this wine indicate the very good cellaring potential of the Chateau de Serame Minervois 2006.

About Wine Spots:

Wine Spots Wines was inspired by Daniel LeFrancois’s travels throughout the world. While backpacking through France, Daniel was enjoying a glass of wine at a café near Montmartre in Paris, contemplating his next adventure, when he spilled a drop of wine onto his map, landing next to Saint-Émilion. This inspired him to continue his journey to Bordeaux and ignited his love of wine. That "spot" on the map became a treasured souvenir, one that would remind him of all the great moments he experienced on that trip. As Daniel became more involved in the world of wine, he reflected upon his years of traveling and found himself remembering the wines he enjoyed on his adventures. When his dream of crafting his own wines became a reality, Daniel knew that he wanted his wines to combine his passion for wine and travel.

Thus was born Wine Spots, a collection of wines that explores the finest wine regions around the world. Daniel works with some of the best vineyards and top winemakers to produce wines that capture the distinctive qualities and terroir that define these regions. The California Central Coast's high winds, dry days and cool ocean fogs create a long growing season, leading to full, forward fruit flavors and ideal acidity.

Food Pairings: Smooth and versatile, Brass Tacks Merlot is a very food friendly wine that pairs well with red meats, grilled salmon, poultry and heavy meat sauces.

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Spots Carneros Pinot Noir, sourced from mature hillside vineyards, offers aromas of cherry, strawberry and cola. On the palate, fine-grained tannins blend with an intense fruit core of black cherry and strawberry, providing complexity and balance. Integrated vanilla tones from French oak aging reveal subtle spice notes that lead to a long finish.

The grapes for this Pinot Noir were hand picked in September at ideal Brix. After destemming, the grapes were wholeberry fermented in open-top fermenters, which were punched down manually to provide maximum flavor and minimum harsh tannins. Following fermentation, the wine was transferred to a mix of new and matured small French oak barrels for eight months. Prior to bottling, the wine received minimal filtration and fining to preserve the fresh berry flavors.

Food Pairings: Enjoy this Pinot Noir with chicken, salmon, tuna, pork and mushroom dishes.
