Winemaker's Notes:

This is a complex wine that reflects the heat of the afternoon sun, the cool, windy evenings, and the rustic soils of the McMinnville hills while retaining the dark beauty of its intense, ripe fruit. It is aromatically complex with layers of blue and black fruit, Indian spices, coffee hints, and pepper. In the mouth the blue/black fruit flavors and eastern spice notes are layered with a "sauvage" sense of wildness. Texturally layered, its flavors vary in intensity and quality over your tongue and palate. Ample ripe tannins balance with its acidity into a finish that integrates both its dark, wild fruit and nuanced spices.

Serve with braised meats, stews, sausages, or cassoulet. It can be enjoyed in its youth after decanting for two hours or more and will develop over a decade.

My Notes:

Additional wines from St. Innocent Winery:

About St. Innocent Winery:

St. Innocent Winery was founded in May 1988 by Mark Vlossak, the current winemaker and president, and eight investors. Ten tons of grapes were crushed the first fall, producing 396 cases of still and 176 cases of sparkling wine. Production increased to our full capacity of 6800 cases in 2004. The winery is located in Salem, Oregon, at the southeast corner of the Eola Hills, in the mid-Willamette valley.

St. Innocent produces small lot, handmade wines: seven single vineyard Pinot noirs and a blended Pinot noir called the Villages Cuvée, two Chardonnay from Dijon clone plantings, two Pinot gris, and a Pinot blanc.

The philosophy behind the winemaking at St Innocent is that the function of wine is to complement and extend the pleasure of a meal. The characteristics of a wine should enhance different food and flavor combinations - this interaction amplifies the pleasure of a meal. To this end, St. Innocent wines tend toward higher acid levels, and more diverse and balanced flavors.

Winemaker's Notes:

The Shiraz from this region is not one to deliver big sweet fruits; the style resembles a more European flavor, which can be attributed in part to the cool climate. This brings clarity of fruit and earthy characters to the wine. It shows bright fruit on the nose and palate, enhanced by natural spiciness and background oak
My Notes:

About Climbing:

The wines of Climbing are sourced from Orange, the Australian wine region in New South Wales, located approximately 125 miles west of Sydney on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range. Defined by altitude, as well as by soil type and other more common traits of terroir, Orange begins at 1,965 feet (600 meters) above sea level, and is one of Australia’s highest and coolest wine regions. Orange is noted for intense sunlight, which, coupled with the cool growing season, results in wines of great finesse and longevity.

The name Climbing is an active reference to our high vineyard and our continual quest for adventure. The passion of winemaker Philip Shaw has unleashed the potential of the vineyard and the region.

Winemaker's Notes:

#94 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010

The Louis Jadot Moulin à Vent is a full, robust Beaujolais, with a fleshy, almost fat texture and greater longevity than any other Cru of the Beaujolais. The exceptional quality of its structure preserves a fruitiness which becomes mellow with bottle age.

It may be enjoyed after cellaring for 10 years or more (in good conditions of temperature and humidity). Then it will be perfect with red meat or game.

Winemaker's Notes:

An intense crimson color. A fine expression of this lovely 'Capitans' terroir, with highly complex aromas on the nose and palate – hints of flowers (peony), roasting, mocha and vanilla, fruit (blackberry), spices (pepper) and licorices. Remarkably rich on the palate with powerful tannins and an opulent fleshiness. A wine to lay down for many years. Sommelier's tip: decant an hour before serving.

Additional wines from Georges Duboeuf:

About Georges Duboeuf:

For over 40 years Georges Duboeuf has been the Beaujolais region's most renowned négociant and is today regarded in the wine world as the "King of Beaujolais." Born in 1933 in Pouilly-Fuissé, the son of a winegrower, Georges began selling his family's wines from the back of his bicycle to now-legendary local chefs such as Paul Bocuse and Paul Blanc. In 1964, Georges realized his dream and founded his own company: Les Vins Georges Duboeuf.

Over the years, Georges has developed long-standing relationships with the region's top growers and winemakers. Georges is involved in every aspect of his enterprise and is known for his passion and his legendary palate. In 2003, the Duboeuf family opened a new, modern winery in Romanéche-Thorins. The following year, the Duboeuf and Deutsch families jointly purchased Château des Capitans in Juliénas. With annual sales of 30 million bottles, Georges Duboeuf is one of the world's best-known French brands.

Deep garnet red in color with aromas of fragrant ripe cherry, spicy toast and violet highlights overlying rich plum and savory notes. This wine is just easy to drink. Whether with fresh grilled salmon or left-over roast chicken or just in a glass by itself, the pretty plum and spring strawberry flavors of ABC SB Pinot are simply delicious. There is nothing pretentious here, just well balanced, nicely textured, brightly fruity wine that seems to go with everything.

Winemaker's Notes:

Aromas of dark red fruits, black olive and beef stock open into notes of blueberries and licorice with a savory dried herb edge. The palate shows great balance with blueberry and mulberry fruits, spices and a hint of white pepper on the finish. As always The Footbolt is a very approachable wine in its youth but has the capacity to age for many years.

Additional wines from d'Arenberg:

About d'Arenberg:

One of the undisputed kings of Australian Shiraz and Rhone varietals, d'Arenberg has managed to turn individuality into an art form by doing a whole lot of little things differently. The original vineyards were established by Joseph Osborn in 1912 in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia. A century on, the estate has grown to 345 acres, and the mantle now rests with fourth-generation winemaker, Chester Osborn. By maintaining a focus on traditional winemaking and nurturing their old-vine material, the Osborn clan has successfully established themselves as one of the country's leading producers of concentrated wines that are full of character.

Winemaker's Notes:

Winemaker Allan Johnson aims for a "ripe, full and rich" Pinot Noir. In recent years the wines have won many accolades.

Deep red colour. Ripe concentrated red and dark berry fruits with ripe plum aromas, a touch of leather and toasty oak. Soft full and long flavour with intense sweet-ripe fruit and tannins in a focused structure. Soft lingering finish with long flavour length. A beautiful wine.

"Far and away the best Palliser Pinot Noir we've ever reviewed, the 2005 boasts complex, savory aromas and flavors that match ripe black cherry and plum fruit with peppery-herbal notes and hints of smoke, meat and brown sugar. The creamy, supple tannins are balanced by crisp acids and concentrated fruit on the long finish. Drink now–2015."
-Wine Enthusiast

A blend of 50% Cinsault, 40% Grenache and 10% Syrah.

The delightful and distinctive character of La Vieille Ferme Rose is the judicious blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah grapes.

Serve at 50-54 degrees F in a tulip glass. Serve with light cuisine or as a summer aperitif.

My Notes:

Additional wines from La Vieille Ferme:

About La Vieille Ferme:

Jean Pierre Perrin established La Vieille Ferme over 35 years ago, when he chose to produce an inexpensive, straightforward Rhône wine to sell by direct mail to French wine lovers. He used the same grape varieties in similar proportions to those planted at the family's Château de Beaucastel, in a similar vinification process. The result was an immediate success in France, a wine of character and style in keeping with its Beaucastel heritage.

Initially, Jean Pierre made only Côtes du Rhône, but steeply rising grape prices in 1976 caused him to switch to Côtes du Ventoux and eventually to produce a white wine from the mountainous Côtes du Luberon. La Vieille Ferme was introduced to the United States in 1970. The response was an immediate, overwhelming acceptance and an outpouring of critical acclaim from eminently knowledgeable critics who recognized La Vieille Ferme for its consistently fine quality and value.

This wine's structure and concentration make it an ideal match for a wide range of foods. It will match well with field mushroom pasta or risotto. It also lends itself to rare, grilled red meats or a variety of slow cooked casseroles including game meats, such as rabbit or fowl.
