Winemaker's Notes:

We strive to achieve a Malbec with a deep purple color, with a high intensity of blackberries, blueberries, plums and milk chocolate.
My Notes:

About Ksana:

The winery was founded and is owned by Marcela Gonzalez Riesgo and Héctor Durigutti. Marcela is a well-respected agronomical engineer and Héctor is one of the most famous winemakers in Argentina. Their families are best friends and they decided to work together on a small, ultra-premium project --using an amazing 90 year-old vineyard as the base-- that became Ksana.

The name Ksana comes from Sanscript and means instant. For the Buddhists it refers the moment in which infinity is experienced in an instant. Likewise, we believe at the moment of tasting a wine, one experiences its vineyard's history and winemaking process. The correct combination of these is what will make a wine last in your memory forever.

About Columbia Crest:

Founded in 1983, Columbia Crest has grown from a small winery in a relatively unknown wine region to one of the most significant wineries in the U.S. and a major force behind Washington state's emergence as a world-class wine region. Over the years, the winery has remained committed to delivery handcrafted, small-lot wines, as well as affordable, superior quality everyday wines. In 2009, the winery reached a milestone when Wine Spectator named their 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon "Wine of the Year," the first time a wine from Washington state has received the ranking. #42 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2011

Blend of Alfrocheiro (early ripening Dão grape with good color, rich tannin, and balance of strawberry-like fruit and acidity), Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo in Spain, an early ripening varietal which produces good yields and flavors reminiscent of red fruits, plums, strawberries and blackberries. It has firm tannins and responds well to oak aging) and Touriga Nacional (One of Portugal's signature grapes, indigenous to the Dão. It has firm, rich color and complex aromas of raspberries, ripe blackcurrants, savory herbs, violets and licorice.).

My Notes:

About Quinta de Cabriz:

In 1989, in the heart of the Dão wine region, in the village of Carregal do Sal, Dão Sul is born. Inspired in Quinta de Cabriz, a property with a magnificent manor house and chapel of the XVII Century, Dão Sul has become a reference of winemaking in the Dão.

Of the vineyards surrounded by pine trees, the grapes produced in integrated production give way to wines with balanced acidity and delicate aromas of the brand Cabriz. With a portfolio that ranges from Cabriz Colheita Seleccionada to Cabriz Four C, from Spirits to sparkling wines, the white and red grape varieties are vinified in a modern cellar with the support of a modern laboratory and a fully equipped tasting room.

Purplish dark and deep red with ruby red shades. Sweet, ample, elegant, and very intense aromas that are fruity with light tones of oak. The palate is soft, voluminous, and ample with sweet tannins of medium density in good balance with the acidity. A fruity, sweet, long lasting finish.

Blend: 70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Canaiolo

My Notes:

Additional wines from Capezzana:

About Capezzana:

Grapevines were already cultivated for wine production in the vicinity of Capezzana 3000 years ago. The present vineyard was named in Roman times, and written records of the present vineyard date to 932 A.D. During the Renaissance, the property was controlled by the Medici family. The estate passed by marriage through several noble Tuscan families, until it came under the control of the Contini Bonacossi family early in the 20th century. Today the property is run by the Bonacossi family – Filippo runs the vineyards, Bernadetta makes the wine, and Beatrice handles commercial matters.

All of the grapes for the wines of Capezzana are produced on their estate vineyards. Filippo supervises their production with the utmost in care, using the minimum possible amount of chemical inputs to ensure the health of the vines. Great attention is paid to the size and density of the canopy and to the fruit load borne by each vine.

A deep crimson color. The nose initially offers floral aromas (violets), which then open out on to fruity aromas (blackcurrant, raspberries, wild peach). On the palate, this Morgon reveals remarkable substance and a delightful fleshiness, while the fruity aromas are confirmed. This Morgon 2009 Domaine Jean Descombes has great finesse, distinction and elegance. Good persistence. A wine poised for a great future.

This wine pairs well with lamb, turkey and venison.

Additional wines from Georges Duboeuf:

About Georges Duboeuf:

For over 40 years Georges Duboeuf has been the Beaujolais region's most renowned négociant and is today regarded in the wine world as the "King of Beaujolais." Born in 1933 in Pouilly-Fuissé, the son of a winegrower, Georges began selling his family's wines from the back of his bicycle to now-legendary local chefs such as Paul Bocuse and Paul Blanc. In 1964, Georges realized his dream and founded his own company: Les Vins Georges Duboeuf.

Over the years, Georges has developed long-standing relationships with the region's top growers and winemakers. Georges is involved in every aspect of his enterprise and is known for his passion and his legendary palate. In 2003, the Duboeuf family opened a new, modern winery in Romanéche-Thorins. The following year, the Duboeuf and Deutsch families jointly purchased Château des Capitans in Juliénas. With annual sales of 30 million bottles, Georges Duboeuf is one of the world's best-known French brands.

The wine offers a brilliant ruby red color. As time passes, the hue is enriched with garnet tones that, as the years go by, lighten further toward orange with an ochre tint typical of Tuscan wines. The aroma is satisfyingly intense, fine and elegant, with light scents of ripe fruits and violets. As it evolves, the wine develops an appealing bouquet that is full and complex. It possesses a pleasant fullness and an outstanding balance of body and structure. Somewhat austere in its youth, the wine softens with age, becoming velvety and developing prolonged and appealing aromatic persistence.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Castello D'Albola:

About Castello D'Albola:

The Castello d'Albola estate is situated above the town of Radda, nearly 2,000 feet above sea level, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in the province of Siena, Tuscany. Over the centuries it was transferred to the Samminiati, Pazzi and Ginori-Conti families, and finally to the Zonin family.

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2009 growing season was in a word - perfect. The weather was dry, warm with lots of sunshine. We started the season a week late in blooming, but caught up as the perfect ripening weather lasted through September. The "tale of two vintages" has to do with the freeze that many vineyards experienced on the night of October 10th. The good news about this event is that most of our grapes were either already picked or had already reached a good level of maturity. It was at that point where we had to get in the rest of the fruit in short order, which we did.

The Indian Wells Cabernet is our warm climate, ripe, jammy "New World" style of Cabernet Sauvignon. Vineyards in the area are more than a decade old now and showing character and complexity. This lush wine reveals fruit-forward blackberry and cherry flavors and dark fruit aromas.

Pair with stuffed peppers, blue cheese, duck, beef, veal, lamb, dark chocolate.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle:

About Chateau Ste. Michelle:

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. In addition, the winery's Eroica Riesling, crafted from a partnership with German winemaker Ernst Loosen, has been named to Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" wines list for five consecutive years.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. This dedicated approach to winemaking allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.
