Wine Enthusiast rating: 90 points
PRICE ON 4/19/2014: $21.99

Winemaker's Notes:

Lucien Albrecht, Jean's father, pioneered Crémant production in 1971 and helped gain an Appellation Contrôlêe for the wine and for Alsace. The wines vinified by the classic Champagne Method from 100% free run juice, are the best sparkling wines in France outside of Champagne itself. Recently Maison Lucien Albrecht was awarded four gold medals at a comprehensive National I.N.A.O. tasting of all sparkling wines in France, giving the firm more gold medals than any other Crémant producer in France.

This Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% Pinot Blanc. The Blanc de Blancs is distinguished by a fine and elegant bead, a beautiful straw color; a light, delicate palate. It is delicious at any time of the day and with many foods.

About Lucien Albrecht:

The history of the Albrecht family as winegrowers can be traced back to 1425 with Romanu Albrecht, who was established in the town of Thann.

The fifteenth century was golden era for the Alsace wines and it was during this period that the winegrowers guild of Alsace was founded. Each year, the most deserving vinegrower was elected by the guild of the winegrowers as Bangard, a highly respected positions. It was held by 8 generations of Albrecht's, between 1520 and 1698.

Domaine Albrecht experienced a major development under the guidance of Lucien Albrecht, the father of Jean, to become one of the most important in Alsace with holdings in 9 villages surounding Orschwihr. Lucien Albrecht, extended the winery with new cellars and expanded the sales of his wines in bottles. In 1972, Lucien Albrecht was also a pioneer of Cremand d'Alsace. Today the Cremant is one of their specialities and a major part of the business.

150 years were needed to make up the Domaine Albrecht located in the very best Alsace terroirs. Jean Albrecht is now the ninth generation settled in Orschwihr, leading the Domaine.

Winemaker's Notes:

Straw-colored with greenish tints, and with a steady effervescence and a formation of small bubbles which generate a gentle crown. Subtle and delicate, floral, with light toasty notes and recall of dry fruits. Touch of dried herbs. It is appetising, fruity, well structured, rich and mature in the mouth. A slightly toasted background flavor with pleasant traces of lees. Altogether elegant. Lingering and strong.

Grape Varieties: 45% Macabeo, 40% Xarello and 15% Parellada

Winemaker's Notes:

"Cooling citrus, pineapple, sweet corn, herbs, salted nuts and a Chablis-like chicken stock richness are all among the scents and flavors you will encounter in Dureuil's 2006 Bourgogne Aligote, a remarkably generous rendition of an occasionally ornery but too often overlooked grape. Creamy richness of texture reinforces the notes of nut oils of maize on the palate, and a truly gripping finish offers multi-layered suggestions of minerality by way of salts, chalk, shrimps, and scallops... nobody could deny that (it) represents outstanding value."
-Wine Advocate

Ripe and spicy, with a lacy, refreshing core of chopped lemons and limes and a touch of white pepper, this Aligoté is one of our favorite selections in terms of sheer drinkability. Laced with minerals from perfume to finish, with plenty of sweet white fruit to tantalize the palate.

The Wine Advocate rating: 90 points
PRICE ON 4/19/2014: $8.79

Winemaker's Notes:

"In its fascinating nose of pear, lemon, apple blossom, tangerine rind, nut oils, and white truffle, the 2005 Pinot Blanc Kritt reflects its generous component of ripe Auxerrois, and also somewhat suggests the character of a truffly 1996 Sancerre. Imposingly creamy in texture and palpably dense, this clings with juicy pear fruit, rich nuttiness, pungent citrus zest and subtly salty, stony mineral suggestions. Lovely though it is now, there is no need to rush to drink up a Kreydenweiss Kritt in anything less than five years from the vintage. Why aren't there more outstanding values like this out there, not even from less-prestigious growers? (Incidentally, Kreydenweiss has planted Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois in his Kastelberg, and these will in future inform a separate bottling.)"
