Winemaker's Notes:

Our Monterey Chardonnay is rich, bold and beautifully balanced. It possesses an intriguing combination of grapefruit, pear and vanilla imparted by traditional barrel fermentation. The flavors are luscious, fruit forward and distinctly mineral thanks to our unique inner-coastal soils. As with all of our wines, the finish is crisp, structured and long.

Additional wines from Carmel Road:

About Carmel Road:

Founded in 1996, Carmel Road's mission is to produce wine showcasing the unique nature of Monterey County terrior. Our debut release, the 1997 Chardonnay, demonstrates the potential of the Monterey County appellation to produce world-class wines.

Located just a few miles over the ridges from the Pacific Ocean, Carmel Road produces wines from vineyards set against the Santa Lucia range and in the Gabilan foothills. Winemaker Kris Kato grew up in Portland, Oregon, where he developed "the beer bug." But the fermentation science program at Oregon State University led him down the path of winemaking. He's worked at Central Coast wineries large and small, and notes both experiences prepared him for his role at Carmel Road, where he focuses on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

"Pinot expresses itself more than any other variety, in terms of being nuanced-driven," Kris says. He's excited to be working with Monterey fruit, including from the winery's Panorama Vineyard. "I love to make small lots of wine from different parcels. It’s incredible to be able to choose the most distinct wines from the vineyard, and showcase them in different bottlings."

Winemaker's Notes:

We crafted this Chardonnay from select vineyards located in the Sonoma Coast appellation, including the microclimates of western Carneros, southern Sonoma Valley and the Petaluma Gap. Produced in a lively, crisp style that emphasizes varietal character without the use of new oak, it has a spicy citrus bouquet that leads to juicy flavors of white peach and nectarine, followed by a sleek, juicy finish. Try it as an elegant aperitif paired with hors d'oeuvres, or with lighter dishes such as soups, salads, seafood and pasta dishes.

Additional wines from Schug Estate Winery:

About Schug Estate Winery:

Founded in 1980, Schug Carneros Estate Winery is the showcase and life-long dream of one of California's most celebrated winemakers. Walter Schug's reputation blossomed during his tenure as Founding Winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the 1970s, where he made California’s first proprietary Bordeaux-Style blend (Insignia) and legendary vineyard designated Cabernets (Backus and Eisele Vineyards).

Drawing on his long experience in the production of fine wines in both Europe and California, Walter set up his own winery with his wife Gertrud in the cool, marine climate of the Carneros Appellation. Here he could focus on the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals that had always been close to his heart.

Schug Carneros Estate Winery combines old world understanding and tradition with modern winemaking techniques. By using only the finest grapes available, and maintaining the best winemaking values, these wines have gained acceptance worldwide as true contemporary classics.

Pale straw gold in color, with ripe pear and bright honeydew melon aromas, and just a touch of vanilla. In the mouth it is full and round, with baked apple, fresh pineapple, and hints of rich lemon pie. The long clean finish begs for another sip.

Additional wines from Macrostie:

About Macrostie:

MacRostie Winery and Vineyards was founded by winemaker Steve MacRostie in 1987. As a believer in the unique character of Carneros fruit, and an innovative winemaker pioneering a more fresh and sophisticated style of Chardonnay, Steve dedicated himself to crafting wines embodying an authentic sense of place. In 1992, realizing the vast potential for producing stunning, age-worthy Pinot Noirs from Carneros fruit, Steve made MacRostie's first Carneros Pinot Noir.

In the 1990s, Steve discovered an amazing mountainside ranch possessing spartan volcanic soils over fractured andesite, located in the western borderlands of Carneros. This ranch enjoyed a unique microclimate that Steve believed would be ideally suited to producing profound Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. In 1997, inspired by a desire to cultivate his own great piece of land, Steve's adventurous spirit led him to enter into a partnership with Nancy and Tony Lilly to develop Wildcat Mountain Vineyard from this unplanted pastureland.

Steve handpicked Kevin Holt as his successor to take over winemaking responsibilities for MacRostie Winery and Vineyards in 2004. A gifted winemaker who has worked at such wineries as Quivira and Testarossa Vineyards, Kevin continues Steve's 20-year legacy for producing outstanding wines from the finest Carneros and Sonoma Coast fruit.

Winemaker's Notes:

This characteristic Chardonnay starts off with aromas of freshly picked apricots and sweet honey. The fruit theme continues with scents of crisp green apples and just peeled lemon zest followed by hints of vanilla and crème brûlée. Full bodied, with beautiful balance, this Napa Valley Chardonnay with flavors of ripe peach, pear, vanilla and crisp Meyer lemon are perfectly balanced leaving your palate with a clean, crisp finish.
