My Notes:

About Casa Gran del Siurana:

The Casa Gran estate covers 10 hectares of deep flat land, mainly composed of sedimentary fluvial soils from the river Siurana. The vineyard houses the Casa Gran farmhouse, which lends its name to our bodega: a building with a history of three hundred years that was the former headquarters of the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei in ancient times. There’s a project to build a cellar and wine tasting facilities in this estate

Some years ago Castillo Perelada made a bid for the success of quality winemaking in the Empordà. This same passion for high expression wines has guided us to Priorat, one of the most highly regarded Designations of Origin in Spain and the world, and one of the few that are recognised as being a Qualified Designation of Origin.

Our venture with La Casa Gran del Siurana began with the main aim of creating modern, quality wines, through a winemaking process that would control all aspects from the moment the vine is planted onwards.

Winemaker's Notes:

Meiomi (May-oh-mee) is a Pinot Noir that gets its fruit from the most noteworthy coastal areas in California. The wine is crafted, lush, balanced and luxurious. Three of the California's most sought after coastal growing regions brilliantly meld together in this deeply flavored, stylish and truly balanced Pinot Noir; at its most fundamental core, it is an approachable, food friendly wine with a style and place all its own.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Meiomi:

About Meiomi:

The name Meiomi means "coast" in the language of the native, coastal dwelling Wappo and Yuki tribes, and best pays tribute to and symbolizes the origin of this Pinot Noir. Meiomi is a high style Pinot Noir that is shaped, more than anything else, by the fruit sources that lay the foundation of the blend. A pure bred enjoyment wine, built to accommodate any pairing from food to friends. Unifying California’s most noteworthy coastal areas opens the door for a dynamic and opulent wine that is ready to enjoy whenever you are.

Joseph J. Wagner is a fifth-generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since the 1880's. Then he began to focus his efforts on what was to become his passion and career in the wine business. He is the owner of Belle Glos and Meiomi wines and has been overseeing vineyard operations and winemaking since 2002. Joseph has a perpetual goal of crafting Pinot Noirs that exude their origins and represent the best of their class in any vintage. Along with his passion for Pinot Noir, he continues his role at Caymus in viticulture and winemaking alongside his father, Chuck. When not at work, he spends time with his wife and 5 children constantly grooming the next generation in farming philosophy and practices, winemaking and the enjoyment of nature's bounty and the outdoors.

Winemaker's Notes:

This blend is very dark red, with crimson highlights with balsamic oak aromas, as well as fig and black plum and hints of tobacco. The palate shows great structure and a full-bodied firmness, with mature, silky tannins. Mineral notes mix with the aforementioned fruit, leading to a very elegant, complex and persistent finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Quinta do Vallado:

About Quinta do Vallado:

In the heart of Portugal’s most famous wine region – the Douro Valley – near the historical center of Regua, the Quinta do Vallado vineyards, winery and guest house spread across both banks of the Corgo River at the very point where it meets the Douro. With winemaking references that date back to 1716, the Quinta belonged to the legendary Portuguese vintner D. Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, and has remained in the family through modern times.

The current owners, Joao Ferreria Alvares Ribeiro, Francisco Ferreira and Francisco Olazabal, are the sixth generation of this remarkable family, and the family’s mission to produce some of the best still wines of this fertile valley continues with the red blends and varietals that are exported worldwide. Of the 38-hectare Estate, 26 hectares are filled with vines 60 years and older. It is from these vines that Quinta do Vallado’s Red Reserve and Touriga Nacional wines are made, so it is no wonder that the wines are often found to be rated and reviewed among the best wines from the Douro.

Winemaker's Notes:

Straw yellow. Lychee and citrus with stone fruit and undertones of minerality. Citrus, stone fruits with a creamy, rich mouthfeel and long finish.
My Notes:

About Alderbrook Vineyards:

Situated on the outskirts of the city of Healdsburg in California's Sonoma County, the Alderbrook estate is located at the southernmost tip of the Dry Creek Valley, within a stone's throw of the Russian River. On a road map this might not seem significant, but in the world of fine wine, this location is considered one of the best in the region. While technically located in the Dry Creek Valley appellation, the official border of the Russian River Valley appellation begins close to Alderbrook's 65-acre estate, giving the winery a unique position at the confluence of these two valleys.

Not only does the estate vineyard receive the afternoon heat that is typical of Dry Creek Valley weather patterns, but the cool night air creeping up the Russian River Valley from the Pacific Ocean produces evening and early morning fog, cooling the vines. Alderbrook's vineyard enjoys the luxury of extended "hang time." This produces more mature fruit resulting in rich, full-bodied flavor characteristics: qualities which are ultimately apparent in the wines.

"The blend of climates is a gift, and our estate vines benefit tremendously from the unique weather conditions," says general manager, George Christie. Our incredible location at the junction of these two appellations gives us the perfect raw materials for wine making."

Winemaker's Notes:

The Terra d'Oro 2010 Deaver Zinfandel has a deep garnet color with lifted aromas of clove, allspice and cracked white pepper. The palate is focused with crisp and juicy layers of ripe blackberry, plum and cinnamon and a lingering baked cobbler flavor on the finish. The briary tannins and baked spice components add complexity to this bold wine and support a great balance of power and restraint.

For a zesty pairing, serve this wine with a roasted guinea hen or a juicy ribeye steak.

This white Rhone blend displays varietal characteristics of Marsanne and Viognier; vibrant floral aromas of citrus blossom and jasmine are followed by elegant flavors of ripe stone fruit, hints of pear, pineapple and honey overtones. A wine of excellent balance and complexity, the 2010 Treana White will age beautifully over the next decade.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Treana Winery:

About Treana Winery:

Treana symbolizes a trinity of natural elements - the sun, the soil, and the ocean - the elements that make Paso Robles and the rest of the Central Coast a prime area for premium wine grapes.

The Hope family began planting vineyards in the area in 1978. Two decades of experience has taught them not only how to grow the finest quality wine grapes, but has also shown them the tremendous potential of the region.

Formerly, the Hopes sold wine under the Hope Family label directly from the winery's tasting room. Beginning with the 1990 vintage, the Hope ranches became the sole source of fruit for Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1996, they founded Treana Winery after years of hands-on experience in viticulture and winemaking. Today, the Hopes cultivate mature vineyards of the varietals best suited to their area; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Petit Verdot, Mourvedre and Merlot.

(search item no. 110808)

Winemaker's Notes:

2009 was a good vintage with plenty of season to reach peak ripeness. We cold-fermented our Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Blanc juice in stainless tanks and then stopped the fermentation to achieve a lower alcohol level with balanced residual sweetness.

Soft White is finished sweet but with enough acid to keep it in balance. The 2009 Soft White shows tropical notes, a hint of citrus and floral notes in leading to a clean and crisp finish.

Our Soft White is delightful on its own or serve well-chilled with fruit, cheese, and light desserts. The wine is also a perfect complement to marinated fish and poultry dishes.

My Notes:

About Ste. Chapelle Winery:

From high atop "Winery Hill", Ste. Chapelle Winery overlooks thousands of acres of fertile orchards and farmland in Southwestern Idaho. Ste. Chapelle was founded in 1976 and named after La Sainte-Chapelle Church in Paris, France. The winery has grown to produce over 120,000 cases and by adhering to a quality focus, their wines have eraned national and international recognition since the beginning.

My Notes:

About Nativa:

Nativa wines capture the very essence of Chile's superior and unique terroir with organically grown grapes nurtured only by the warmth of the sun and the nutrients in the soil. This producer’s naturally distinctive wines are, as a result, full of the flavors and aromas that are helping to make the country one of the most exciting wine producing regions in the world.

Nativa wines were the first in Chile to be made with grapes certified as organically grown. The country, indeed, offers excellent growing conditions for organic agriculture, with its four natural barriers – the Atacama Desert to the north, the Andes Mountains to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Antarctic glaciers to the south –providing natural isolation and protection of the vineyards.

Led by Chief Winemaker, Felipe Ramírez, the Nativa team is passionate about embracing the natural environment and has implemented sustainable winemaking practices. The winery uses recycled materials for labels and packaging, produces grapes free of chemical residue, strives to improve soil fertility, and utilizes the maximum amount of renewable resources, all while maintaining the genetic diversity of the ecosystem.

Pale golden color with oily, filling, yellow fruit. The palate is bone dry but the luscious roundness makes it appear much more mouth-watering and full. There is a lingering presence of lychee fruit, slate, Earl Gray tea, soft vanilla, sage, and balanced acid. Very powerful and beautiful at the same time.

About Chehalem:

With two vineyards on either end of Chehalem Ridge and one in the Dundee Hills, Chehalem is dedicated to reflecting as purely as possible what the vineyard has produced. My Notes:

About Marquis de la Tour:

The Loire Valley has often been called the "garden of France." This pastoral landscape, with its gently rolling hills and majestic châteaux, also happens to be the largest sparkling wine region in France, outside of Champagne.

One of the best known names in fine Loire Valley sparkling wines is Marquis de la Tour from Rémy Pannier. Rémy Pannier, which has been identified with premium quality Loire Valley wines since 1885, is the Loire Valley's single largest wine producer, with markets in over 40 countries worldwide.

Approximately one third of production at Rémy Pannier is devoted to the internationally popular Marquis de la Tour, an dry, youthful and appealing sparkling wine blend comprising 50% Chenin Blanc, 25% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Chardonnay grapes, all grown exclusively in the vineyards of the Loire Valley. Each variety is fermented independently in stainless steel. The individual wines are then tasted and blended to achieve a desired consistency of style. The resulting blend is fermented a second time, with the addition of selected yeasts and sugar, after which it rests under pressure on the lees for six months before bottling and release.
