Winemaker's Notes:

Perfumed plum aromas leading to slightly earthy and smoky notes as the wine develops in the glass. The palate is medium bodied with fleshy dark fruit flavors, well-structured tannins and lingering oak-spice laden length.

About Spice Route:

Five centuries ago the ancient mariners braved uncharted seas to round the Cape in search of exotic spices. Their nerve and dash inspired Charles Back to found the Spice Route Winery in 1997. Charles had bought the farm Klein Amoskuil, and this Malmesbury based farm is now home to Spice Route's Swartland terroir styled wines. The Spice Route Winery has found its signature wine style in the warm rolling hills along the Cape West Coast. Matching traditional practices in the vineyards with modern, minimalist approaches in the cellar, they produce exceptionally ripe and deep-flavoured wines. The deep red soils sustain unirrigated bush vine through the long warm summers. These harsh conditions are tempered by cool Atlantic breezes rolling in overnight. In its few years since inception had a stratospheric climb into the top echelons of the South African wine industry.

Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, fig, cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, dirt, milkshake, with earth and oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, very creamy nicely integrated cherry milkshake with earth and leather, and a nice tobacco finish for this moderately priced Tempranillo.

About Emilio Moro:

The winery is family-run and has links with the wine world going back three generations. It is located in Ribera del Duero, a land of dry summers and long, hard winters.

Emilio Moro, the founder of Bodegas Emilio Moro, was born in Pesquera de Duero, a wine area of time-honored traditions, where some of the flagship wines of the Ribera del Duero appellation are now produced. It was in this year that the winery's first vineyard, Finca Resalso, was planted.

One advantage that the Bodegas Emilio Moro winery has in its vineyards is that some of them have belonged to the family for many years and ahve the purest clone of the indigenous Tempranillo varietal, known in Spain as "Tinto Fino." This clone has been used to graft all the vine plants of the winery's vineyards, which have gradually grown in surface over time.
