About Red Truck Winery:

START YOUR ENGINES The idea for Red Truck Wines began when Fred and Nancy Cline of Sonoma, California's Cline Cellars fell in love with a painting of a classic, old red truck, purchasing it at an auction benefiting the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Created by internationally renowned Sonoma-based artist Dennis Ziemienski, the light-filled painting of a vintage truck set against a typical Sonoma landscape of soft, golden hills, bright blue sky and cotton ball clouds seemed destined to become a sensational new wine label with universal appeal.

Winemaker's Notes:

Well, at least this year we weren't "burning down da House," but it was an unusually long and cool season that led to berries with low yields and great concentration again. This Big House Red lives up to that old Fruit Bomb moniker that you've come to expect. It starts with a nose full of blackberries and raspberries, with hints of leather and spices. The palate is clean, exhibiting flavors of cranberries, roses and a touch of rhubarb. This finish lingers, with flavors of vanilla and a touch of dark cherries in the finish. A true trump card, Big House Red pairs well with all grilled meats, lasagna Bolognese, grilled vegetables or even sashimi grade Ahi tuna.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Big House:

About Big House:

The Big House wines were born of the notion that the California climate is quite hospitable to the rollicking, sun loving grapes of Mediterranean France, Italy and Spain. Big House has found that by blending, rather than relying upon a single variety, they can create far more complex, rich wines that elegantly match a very wide variety of cuisine, from pizza, to BBQ ribs to roast chicken.

Antonio the Bull kissed this wine and he fell in love. Now he runs around the world and offers this wine to you. Beso de Vino, "Kiss of Wine."

What makes Beso de Vino special and unique is the magical time that happens from the moment you open the bottle right up until you drink the very last drop, on your own or in the company of someone you want to share the moment with. Winemaker's Notes:

Evodia is an exciting new project in the Denominacion de Origen Calatayud, hailed as one of Spain's most progressive and promising wine growing regions. It is here, in the vineyards of Atea, that Altovinum sources their Garnacha grapes for Evodia. In addition to the remarkable climate due to elevation, the property is comprised of pure schiste soils, known as pisara in the local area. Aficionados familiar with the wines of the Priorat and the Roussillon are well acquainted to this soil type and its extraordinary influence on the wines.

Blend: 100% Garnacha

About Evodia:

Altovinum is a new project - a joint partnership between Eric Solomon, Jean Marc Lafage and Yolanda Diaz. Sourcing fruit from high elevation vineyards in the village of Atea, the debut wine is EVODIA, from the Greek word for aroma.

A bold and juicy red wine with red-berry fruit aromas and a touch of oak spice. Classic cabernet cassis and red-currant fruit flavours with silky tannins and long finish. Should go nicely with a wide range of foods, particularly red meats and pasta. Serve at a cool room temperature.

Additional wines from MAN Vintners:

About MAN Vintners:

"This MAN thing all began with three friends and an idea: to make a wine that we ourselves would love to buy. Good quality, good value, good packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us into action. What do we name it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the first initials of our wives. (We each have one wife, that is.) So this is how we explained to Marie, Anette, and Nicky that we were going to be "busy" most weekends. It's for you! we told them. And it's mostly true. But MAN is not only about woMAN, it is about MANkind and huMANity as well. Remember, Africa is the cradle of MAN!

For those of you that have experienced South Africa, it won't be a surprise if we state (objectively) that this is the most heavenly spot on earth. The winelands are stunning, with dramatic mountains, lush rolling vineyards, and that African blue sky. Taste a bit of Africa!"

#57 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2011

Deep ruby red in color. The nose has full, sweet, ripe red fruit, plum jam and sweet wood notes. Flavors are vigorous, quite soft, warm, tannic, fresh and persistent.

Try with grilled red meat or seasoned cheeses.

My Notes:

About Fratelli Revello:

Revello Farms, run by the brothers Carlo and Lorenzo, is located in frazione Annunziata in the commune of La Morra. In the estate vineyards Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo and Barolo are produced. Winemaker's Notes:

Gnarly Head 2010 Old Vine Zinfandel is made from gnarled 35 to 80 year-old head trained vines. Fruit from these unruly branches is intense and powerful, and as some of the oldest in California, these brash old vines produce exceptional, full flavored grapes. The intrepid Old Vine Zinfandel has a gnarly core of rich, dark raspberry and black cherry flavors with layers of spice and chocolate balanced by complex French and American oak toast. Try pairing this wine with braised short ribs, chicken enchiladas, or dark chocolate.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Gnarly Head:

About Gnarly Head:

My first impression, as the truck pulled up to the eighty year old Zinfandel vineyards, was, "Wow, those vines sure have some gnarly heads!" Thus began a fifteen year love affair with the Old Vine Zinfandel.

The older Zin vineyards in California were planted before the use of modern trellising techniques and were "head pruned", meaning the shoots that eventually produce the grapes grow directly out of the head of the trunk. The resulting vines look more like a bush than the normally well-manicured rows of neatly trained along posts and wires – and they do have "Gnarly Heads".

Winemaker's Notes:

Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, cedar and forest floor get a boost of complexity from hints of rosemary, gentle fresh herbs, baking spice and vanilla caramel. The wine is deep, dark and intense, yet also signature Stag's Leap Wine Cellars: medium-full-bodied, firmly structured, powerful yet elegant, and with a long, succulent finish. Enjoy it with steak au poivre or grilled duck breast with braised escarole.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars:

About Stag's Leap Wine Cellars:

Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Founded in 1970, the winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famout 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgement of Paris." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V. and Fay - are among the most highly regarded and collected Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide. The wines are fashioned to express richness balanced by elegant restraint, an approach often described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove."

Additional wines from Falernia:

About Falernia:

Viña Falernia is located in the Elqui Valley between La Serena and Vicuña, 520 km (323 miles) to the north of Santiago and it is at present Chile's northernmost wine estate.

The soils in our vineyards are composed partly of rubble which has eroded from the Andes mountains and deposited by glaciers and wind, and partly of alluvial sand and silt deposited by the river. While stony, gravely soils are regarded as poor for most crops, their excellent drainage qualities make them perfect for wine growing. The climate is semi-arid (average annual rainfall is 80-100 mm) making drip irrigation indispensable during the spring and summer months.

Climatic factors have a crucial influence on the quality and flavour of wine. With the majestic Andes as a backdrop, their peaks gleaming white all through the summer, the vineyards benefit from currents of cold air which descend from the high mountains at night. They cool the vineyards, causing a dramatic contrast between day and night time temperatures during the ripening season, from 27-32°C (80.6-89.6°F) to 10-12°C (50-53.6°F). This has the result of reducing respiration via the leaches and thereby furthering the accumulation of sugar in the grapes as well as the synthesis of polyphenols (tannins and coloring matter) along with the aroma and flavour substance.

Winemaker's Notes:

The wines colour is crimson red. The nose offers an initial wave of savoury temptation -dried herbs, basil, cola, Chinese five-spice, malt, soy. Cold meats and red fruits entwined, with scents of stewing rhubarb shyly making an appearance. A suggestion of cedar and crushed black pepper- a reminder of analogous maturation and season.

On the palate it is medium-bodied and youthful. Bright, fresh raspberry & elderberry fruits.. perhaps more evident upon sitting. Unobtrusive oak, totally absorbed and unwilling to reveal country of origin! White chocolate, fruit pastille, fruit jube..wishful or real? Powdery/talc-coating tannins and refreshing lively acididty await on the finish.
