Red Truck Winery (3 Liter Mini-Barrel)
Red Truck Winery (3 Liter Mini-Barrel)
(search item no. 99416)

PRICE ON 9/2/2014: $31.99

Winemaker's Notes:

NEW! This little recyclable barrel is a great bargain because it contains 4 bottles of the top-selling Red Truck Red Wine! Same great wine, but in our new eco-friendly packaging. And yes, the wine is included!!!

Medium-bodied and complex, flavors of chocolate, berries, cherries and licorice abound. The black pepper finish settles with smooth tannins.

Our Syrah grapes come from the Central Coast areas of Paso Robles and Shandon, areas known for dark, rich wines. Our Cabernet Franc is from a hillside vineyard planted on rocky, red soil made of decomposed granite. This vineyard is managed using "deficit irrigation" to control vigorous growth and increase flavor and color intensity. The Petite Sirah vineyard is on its "sixth leaf" and grows at the base of the foothills in the southeast corner of Sacramento County. It's cooled by the Sacramento Delta breezes and the grapes are dark and flavorful.

Blend: Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Mourvedre.

The Mini-Barrel by Red Truck is far more environmentally friendly than glass. Less and lighter packaging means significantly less landfill waste and greenhouse gases in the production and transport.

My Notes:

About Red Truck Winery:

START YOUR ENGINES The idea for Red Truck Wines began when Fred and Nancy Cline of Sonoma, California's Cline Cellars fell in love with a painting of a classic, old red truck, purchasing it at an auction benefiting the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Created by internationally renowned Sonoma-based artist Dennis Ziemienski, the light-filled painting of a vintage truck set against a typical Sonoma landscape of soft, golden hills, bright blue sky and cotton ball clouds seemed destined to become a sensational new wine label with universal appeal.

About Vida Organica:

Vida Organica is an extension vineyard of the Zuccardi Family of Mendoza, Argentina. The Zuccardi family, have been living in Mendoza since the late 19th century. In 1963, Don Alberto purchased the site of what is now the family's Maipu vineyard to demonstrate his irrigation systems. The main varietals grown at this vineyard are Tempranillo, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Torrontés.

The Zuccardis have always believed that working with nature is the way to produce wines of quality, character and appeal. Vida Orgánica is a celebration of a healthy lifestyle and a vibrant environment. Santa Julia...think of a daring new direction for Argentine wines and you will find that our Santa Julia range is already leading the way. As a tribute to his only daughter, Julia, Jose Zuccardi named his wines after her.

My Notes:

About Bodegas Godeval:

In 1974 a group of viticulturists, in conjunction with the Agriculture Research Department of the Ministry of Agriculture in Spain, created the program Revival (Valdeorras Vineyards Restoration). Since the very first moment, Godello has been thought to be the best grape of the appellation. In 1985, two of the researchers, Horacio Fernandez and Jose Luis Bartolome, and other partners created Bodegas Godeval, releasing the first 100% Godello wine in Galicia . Bodegas Godeval is one of the first estate-bottled wineries in Galicia . This truly pioneering winery deserves respect for recovering this grape for Spanish winemaking, in an area in which wine has been made since the times of Roman occupation. The winery is located in the surroundings of the 13th-century monastery of San Miguel of Xagoaza, in the mountains next to El Barco de Valdeorras, in the province of Orense (Galicia), in the northwest of Spain . They own 38.4 acres (16 ha) of Godello grapes, in different parcels on the hills surrounding the winery, with good exposure to midday sun. The vines are trellistrained. Average production is 6000 kg/ha, or 44 hectoliters per hectare, half of the local maximum allowed. The vineyards are located on the mountain slopes, and are therefore in terraces. The composition of the soil is of metamorphic slate, although you could find granite in other vineyards of the appellation. Planted at 1,350-1,650 feet (450-550 m) above sea level. Bodegas Godeval was the first producer to plant on the mountain slopes in modern history. The climate is continental with a great Atlantic influence; approximately 40 inches of rain a year. The appellation is located on the banks of the Sil River, and in general, most of the vineyards have a north-to-south orientation.

Winemaker's Notes:

This year's Albarino recalls its predecessors: floral scents of citrus blossom, early pear, and lychee fruit jump from the glass. High natural acidity accentuates the intense, lively mineral quality that is its hallmark. Chefs often notice that this minerality makes it among the very best wines to pair with food (seafood, yes, but also anything rich or spicy, foie gras to jambalaya). And while it opens with an elegant, even austere profile, its focused and persistent back-palate fruit lingers hauntingly. At only 12.5% alcohol, this wine stays refreshing, allowing you to continue enjoying it through the bottle.
My Notes:

About Havens Wine Cellars:

Founded in 1984 by winemaker Michael Havens, Havens Wine Cellars have earned distinction for its Merlot, Syrah and their Bordeaux-style red blend called Bouriquot.

Havens Wine Cellars is located just south of Yountville and a short quieting drive off Highway 29, Napa Valley’s main winery tour route. The pastoral 10-acre site located on the Mayacamas benchland includes a 7½ acre vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah grapes lovingly tended.

Our own estate vineyard on Hoffman Lane, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, is an interesting variation on the south Napa Valley vineyard characteristics we value so much. First, we are actually in a little warmer spot here than many of our other vineyards because we sit close to the Mayacamas foothills, slightly in their lee from the prevailing south wind. This means that our daily cooling from the marine airflow is a bit delayed, keeping us warmer for an hour or two longer than vineyards even a few miles east. On the other hand, since we sit on the east-facing slope, we don’t get the full heat of the afternoon sun like vineyards just across the Valley, five miles away in the Stags Leap District. All this combines to define what is called the “diurnal range,” or the daily swing of temperature and wind, and we think it is the single most important factor in a vineyard’s terroir. Our soils here on Hoffman Lane are deep, but include a lot of gravel in the clay loam, and thus they can dry out quickly without drip irrigation. We are still learning the subtleties of farming this site, but have found Syrah here especially well-adapted to the place.

Winemaker's Notes:

Nose: Asian spices accented by nutmeg, star anise, sweet plums with a hint of earth.

Palate: Medium body with a velvety mouth feel. The palate displays plums, white pepper, dark fruits and blueberries. A chewy but not tannic finish.

Food Pairings: Stuffed mushrooms with goat cheese, butternut squash risotto, wood-fired pizza with prosciutto, stir-fried Chinese noodles with roast pork.

"This may only be a medium-bodied red, but it crackles with the exciting flavors of the northern Rhône, marrying freshly cracked peppercorns with a hint of meatiness and bright blueberry fruit."

Additional wines from Innocent Bystander:

About Innocent Bystander:

The idea behind Innocent Bystander is to produce great value, food friendly wines that are not your run of the mill varietal blends. Taking fruit from various sources in Central Victoria (in particular Sangiovese, Shiraz, Pinot Gris and Viognier) the team at Innocent Bystander is inspired to utilize and showcase the natural qualities of each region in their unique blends.

As a group of winemakers and viticulturalists who eschew the bland direction and market dominance increasingly exerted by the large corporate winemaking groups, the folks behind these wines see themselves as innocent bystanders. They remain accountable to their craft, not shareholders.

Punchy, vibrant perfumes of ripe blackberries and raspberries show on the nose. The mouth is both rich and long, with bright red, powerful and palate-coating black cherry flavors. These older vines grow on chalky, clay-based soils right next to leading premier cru vineyards to the north of Givry proper. Expressive and concentrated with a delightful spicy finish.

About Bodegas Ateca:

Bodegas Ateca is a joint project between the Gil winery family and the well-known importer, Jorge Ordonez. The bodegas is located in the Calatayud region of northeastern Spain. The majority of the vineyards are grown in highly permeable and healthy soils with a high amount of limestone. The soils are rocky, loose and low in nutrients. The climate in this region varies vastly from day to night, allowing for more balance between acidity and alcohol.

The main varietal here is Garnacha grown from old-vines up to 80-100 years old.

Winemaker's Notes:

Mostly Merlot, with quite a bit of Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Newton's Claret is a clear, deep red color with touches of black cherry. On the nose, the balance is harmonized between coffee, pepper and fresh blueberries. Fruits, like blackcurrant, cranberry and cherry, evolve on the palate and linger with a spring-like freshness.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Newton Vineyard:

About Newton Vineyard:

Peter and Su Hua Newton purchased one square mile of tumbling slopes high up on Spring Mountain overlooking St. Helena in 1977. The Estate was planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Merlot thrives in a land which is rocky mixed with clay beneath the surface, while Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot like an impoverished soil, and Cabernet Sauvignon is happy in stony loam. The mountainous slopes of the vineyards not only have these soils, but also a full range of exposures. Spring Mountain provides the vines get all the sunlight they need without any baking heat stress.

Chardonnay needs chalky or loamy soil in a cooler region. Newton owns an old vineyard in Carneros and also has long-term grape contracts for several hillside vineyards verging on that region. Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay, introduced in 1990, is said to be the first unfiltered wine produced and sold in California, and is now regarded as an industry benchmark.

Su Hua insists on picking only ripe grapes from the vine. Her method of quality control is to be involved in every aspect of the harvest, during which time she can be found every day among the pickers. To ensure that only ripe grapes are harvested, there can be up to four separate pickings in a single vineyard - very difficult to do but, she believes, there is no other way to produce a great wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

Tropical aromas along with notes of Meyer lemons, white peaches, and honeydew melons. On the palate, this wine offers bright acidity and a mouthwatering finish highlighted by notes of mandarin orange, stone fruit, crisp apples, and Asian pears.

This perfectly off-dry Riesling will pair well with rich, salty or spicy foods.

My Notes:

About Anne Amie:

When Dr. Robert Pamplin, one of Oregon's most forward-thinking philanthropists and businessmen, purchased the historic Chateau Benoit Winery in 1999, his vision was to create wines of the highest quality to reflect his passion for excellence. To this end Dr. Pamplin has charged General Manager Craig Camp, winemaker Thomas Houseman and winegrower Jason Tosch with the task of developing extraordinary pinot noir. Craig, Thomas and Jason are absolutely passionate about producing wines of the finest quality and have dedicated their lives to this quest.

Pinot reigns supreme at Anne Amie Vineyards with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc forming the heart of our production. Complimenting the Pinot family, we also produce small selections of Riesling from our Willamette Valley estate vineyard on the hillside directly in front of the winery. As with all great wines, ours start in the vineyards and we are fortunate to have some of Oregons best sites, both those farmed by us and those we contract with to purchase. Our vineyards (as do the ones we purchae from) receive only the minimal required treatments and yields are severely reduced to yield fruit with great depth and complexity.

Winemaker's Notes:

This varietal comes from the Northern Rhône Valley in France. Presumed to have arrived from Dalmatia and transported to the Rhone 1,700 years ago by Romans. There are only 2,000 acres of this variety in California at this time. Viognier is known for its perfumed aromas and ripe fruit flavors.

Cline Viognier shows big pineapple, peach and apricot flavors mixed with citrus and floral notes. This full-bodied flavorful wine is an excellent match for Mediterranean stews, Thai curry and spicy Mexican dishes.

About Cline:

Fred Cline founded Cline Cellars in 1982, in Oakley, California. In 1991, the winery facilities relocated to the Sonoma Valley on a 350 acre estate in the Carneros District. The Cline Brothers, Fred and Matt, are Zinfandel and Rhone varietal specialists. Their holdings include some of the oldest and rarest vines in California. They are best known for the one hundred year old plantings of Carignane, Mourvedre and Zinfandel grapes they farm in Oakley, California. The Mourvedre represent approximately 85% of the state's total supply of this fascinating and versatile varietal. This treasure is the inspiration for Cline Cellars many "Rhone style" bottlings.
