PRICE ON 9/19/2014: $10.95

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2007 Undone Pinot Noir is very smooth, with berry and plum notes on the palate. It was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, so it has no oak influence – the pure flavors of Pinot Noir show through. A perfect match with salmon, red meat, and pasta.
My Notes:

About Undone:

The Undone estate is located in Germany's Rheinhessen region. Rheinhessen is Germany’s largest wine region by area. It has gently rolling hills and is situated in the climatically favored large elbow formed by the Rhein river as it flows from Worms to its sweeping bend around Mainz then back north at Bingen.

Undone produces a Dry Riesling and Pinot Noir.

Winemaker's Notes:

Enticing aromas of strawberry and raspberry with barrel notes of caramel, vanilla and baking spices. Oak aging rounds out the palate and gives the wine its body. The wine drinks of deep, concentrated raspberry, cherry pie with a touch of cola berry. The wine shows juicy fruit texture and subtle oak.
My Notes:

About Mark West:

At Mark West Winery our goal is to craft wines that consistently deliver enticing aromatics, a rich supple mouth feel, and classical varietal characteristics. The wines pair easily with food or for drinking alone. Our goal is to combine outstanding value and style in every wine we produce.

Deep garnet, this Merlot has black cherry and earthy notes. Medium bodied with excellent balance and structure, it displays fresh herb, cherry, and tobacco leaf flavors. This Merlot is a perfect accompaniment for pasta, roasted turkey, chicken and pork loin. It's especially good with creamy cheeses, like Brie and Camembert.

About Cousino Macul:

In 2006, Cousiño-Macul celebrated its 150th anniversary. The Cousiño family's wine estate in Santiago was established in 1856. Five years ago, the Cousiños moved many of their vines to a new estate at Buin, and built a new winery there. Few wine producers have the opportunity to make a completely new start, incorporating the best of their age-old experience, their unique vines from their personal greenhouse and the most contemporary technology available.

As the technology continues to advance in the vineyards and in the wineries around the world, Cousiño Macul has seized this opportunity and taken a grand leap into the future. Although moving quickly into the future, they take with them the most important part of their long history - their genetic plant material that was originally brought into Chile in 1863. The Cousiño's vineyard and winery in Macul became the proudest achievement of the family. The new vineyard and winery in Buin are now in the hands of the sixth generation.

Winemaker's Notes:

This crisp, crowd-pleasing white from Mulderbosch's sister winery displays fresh peach, melon, citrus, and tropical fruit flavors, with hints of almond and delicate floral and spice notes. A versatile and refreshing alternative to boring Pinot Grigio, it works wonders with grilled vegetables, salads, pan-seared fish, smoked chicken, and light pasta dishes.

My Notes:

About Kanu:

The vineyards and cellar of Kanu wines are located on the Goedgeloof (HOOT-ha-loof) farm, nestled in the Polkadraai Hills of Stellenbosch. The property once formed a part of the original Spier Wine Estate, granted to a German soldier by Cape governor Simon van der Stel in 1692. According to a veteran farm hand on Goedgeloof, Kanu was a mythical bird of promise. The creature’s appearance in the African skies signaled the blessings of a bountiful harvest for all those who fell under its shadow. The wines of Kanu celebrate this traditional African legend.

Recognized globally as a producer of world class Chenin Blanc, Kanu was one of only three estates to be awarded inaugural "Super Chenin" status by the South African Chenin Blanc Association, an honor granted to producers who have demonstrated a track record of consistently outstanding bottlings. Kanu’s Chenins are crafted from the fruit of bush vines with an average age of 30 years, planted predominantly on decomposed Malmesbury shale soils.

Today the Kanu tradition of excellence continues under Cellarmaster Richard Kershaw. A proponent of minimal intervention winemaking, Kershaw employs natural "wild" fermentations. He seeks to craft balanced and approachable wines with moderate alcohol levels and minimal oak influence, allowing the true flavors of the wine to shine through. This winning formula has resulted in consistent critical praise and "Best Buy"/"Best Value" accolades.

The Colchagua Valley experienced an optimum growing season with excellent ripening. Extended hang time resulted in deep concentration of flavors framed by structured yet elegant tannins. On the nose you'll find concentrated blackberry and black cherry aromas with well integrated oak. The taste is dense, red and black fruit highlighted with earthy notes and a touch of oak. Plush with soft, elegant tannins leading to a long finish.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Veramonte:

About Veramonte:

Veramonte represents a return to Agustin Huneeus' Chilean roots. When he spearheaded development of the Veramonte Estate in 1990, there were less than 100 acres of grapevines planted in the Casablanca Valley.

The coastal mountain ranges surrounding the Casablanca estate create a unique terroir with a diversity of microclimates. The valley floor's cool climate is reminiscent of Carneros and ideal for growing premium Chardonnay. The foothills are warmer, akin to the more Northern reaches of the Napa Valley. Here, the climate is more suited to varieties like Carmenëre, the lost Bordeaux grape that has become Chile's citizen and the basis of Primus, our racy, exotic Chilean blend.

Using the latest viticultural technology developed in California, rootstock has been matched to each vineyard block and clone. Vertical trellising and dense vine spacing balance growth and fruit production. Veramonte's Casablanca vineyard produces significantly lower yields than other grape growing regions in Chile, resulting in grapes with more intensity and concentration.

Recognizing that the region also had potential as a tourist destination for its proximity to Santiago, Huneeus began to plant the estate and in 1995, constructed the first Napa Valley style hospitality center in Chile. The first wines were released in 1996.

Winemaker's Notes:

Dressed in fresh purple red color, this is a voluptuous Pinot Noir with rich fruit notes of cherry, raspberry, plum and strawberry – a red fruit party! – enhanced by subtle smoked hints. In mouth sweet fruit notes stand out, and its fine tannins give it a great texture and a mouth filling structure. Balanced and New World styled, this is a wine of personality and elegance. Sexy, pure and simple, it's a young and refreshing Pinot.

Our Cono Sur Pinot Noir is a great choice for all sorts of pasta, grilled poultry, seafood and mild fish. It's also excellent when accompanying dishes served with pesto sauces. If ordering in, mushroom pizza and sushi go great with this wine.

About Cono Sur:

Cono Sur Vineyards and Winery was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing premium, expressive and innovative wines conveying the spirit of the new world. Their name refers to the company's geographic position; it represents wines proudly made in South America's Southern Cone, on whose western edge lays Chile and its gifted wine valleys. Their logo is a freehand drawing of the silhouette of South America. Right from the start, Cono Sur applied new ideas and technology to winemaking traditional methods. Nowadays, Cono Sur's original claim, "No family trees, no dusty bottles, just quality wine," continues to inspire them towards quality, innovation, style and creativity.
