Winemaker's Notes:

A Bordeaux blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, .5% Malbec and .5% Petit Verdot.

The symphony of aromas and flavors in our 2006 Beaulieu Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from vineyards located in diverse regions of the valley. With each swirl and sip, velvety layers of blackberry, ripe Santa Rosa plum, chocolate, violet and mineral are revealed. Each vineyard's clone, soil, mesoclimate, exposure and cultivation techniques contributed to the wine's complex fruit expression, while barrel aging added soft oak nuances.

About Beaulieu Vineyard:

The deep roots of Beaulieu Vineyard were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. Planting vineyards in Rutherford with grafted, phylloxera-resistent French vines, the Cabernet Sauvignon that de Latour crafted from these grapes gave the world a taste of California's promise as a world-class winemaking region. In 1938, de Latour hired the young Russian-French enologist, Andre Tchelistcheff. Today, Beaulieu continues to turn to innovative practices. Most recently, they completed a new state-of-the-art winery within one of their original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional wine.

Winemaker's Notes:

This brilliantly clear, light straw-colored wine smells of pineapple, passion fruit, guava and grapefruit, with a hint of minerality. The palate offers generous nectarine and grapefruit with some flinty notes and a clean, refreshing finish. Simi Sauvignon Blanc pairs wonderfully with gazpacho, raw oysters, and a beet, orange and goat cheese salad.

About Simi:

In 1876, brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi began making wine in San Francisco from Sonoma County grapes and eventually planted vineyards near Healdsburg. Simi's historic stone cellars were built in 1890 and are still used to age the wines. Today, Simi is recognized as a leader in innovation and experimentation with a history of over 125 years of cutting-edge winemaking.

Their Alexander Valley vineyards possess some of the most diverse soils of any wine-growing region. Years of geologic activity – from an ancient mudflow to the meandering Russian River and Mayacama Creek – has created numerous distinct soil types and a range of microclimates. Here they grow the red Bordeaux varietals for their Reserve Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc as well as Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon for their Sendal.

Their Russian River Goldfields vineyard is planted to field selections chosen from the oldest and best Chardonnay vineyards in California. The combination of diverse clones and the cool, Russian River Valley climate produce Simi’s distinct Reserve Chardonnay.

Simi's winemakers focus on site-specific winemaking and use the most modern advances in vineyard management, fermentation and blending to best express the personality and flavors of each vineyard site.

Winemaker's Notes:

A delicious example of a classic Bordeaux - 100% Estate bottled and aged in French oak barrels for six months - ripe flavors of sweet black cherries and chocolate.
My Notes:

About L'Abbaye de St. Ferme:

The property is located in the Bordeaux Supérieur region near the medieval town of St. Ferme, and was once owned by Benedictine monks. The Abbey itself – a monument dating from the 14th century - has been remodeled by current owner Arnaud de Raignac as a home for his wife and children. His family has been making wine and living in the region for five hundred years.

Arnaud de Raignac is a rebel of a Renaissance man - born from tradition, but forging a new path for Bordeaux with his affordable, well-structured, mouth-filling, elegantly rich wines wearing the non-traditional, imaginative label of a 14th century architectural floor-plan of the Abbey. There is an affordable, well-made, delicious Bordeaux!
