Winemaker's Notes:

A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 2% Syrah and 1% Petite Verdot.

The Louis M. Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a deep garnet color with intense aromas of ripe cherry, cassis, and pipe tobacco. Concentrated flavors of ripe plums, and dark bing cherries marry perfectly with the oak nuances. This is a well structured wine that is balanced with firm, velvety tannins which culminate in a long, elegant finish with hints of tobacco, dried herbs and fruit. This wine is ready to enjoy now or can be aged for 3-5 years.

My Notes:

PRICE ON 11/28/2014: $16.99

Winemaker's Notes:

This isn't the kind of Zin that explodes on the palate—instead, it makes a dynamic entrance and keeps on coming. After enticing the nose with aromas of dark chocolate, blueberry pie, licorice and coriander, the 2006 Dry Creek Zinfandel unfolds on the palate with flavors of dried dark cherry and plum. A soft, velvety mouth feel and balanced finish round out the picture. Enjoy through 2013.
My Notes:

About Bradford Mountain:

Bradford Mountain Winery was born out of owner George Hambrecht’s belief that there was something beguilingly distinct about the fruit from his family’s Bradford Mountain vineyards. Planted on a mountain plateau 1000 feet above the Dry Creek Valley floor, the vines produce a low-yielding crop of intensely-flavored grapes with an irresistible wild, brambly flair. Once sold to some of California’s most celebrated wineries, they deserved to be bottled independently, and given the opportunity to tell the story of this unusual and remarkable terroir.

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine is deep purpley red in color, displaying an aroma of sweet fragrant plums and bright red-berried fruits along with a fine cedar tone and just the subtle floral notes of Viognier. A medium to full bodied wine, showing red fruits, fine spices, cloves and peppers. The 2006 is rich, but not an overpowering Shiraz with the subtle sweet textures of Viognier.

Great now, but will also reward 5-7 years in the cellar. Match with butterfly pork chops with creamy mash potatoes.

Winemaker's Notes:

My goal with the Columbia Valley Chardonnay is to make it a pleasurable, food-friendly Chardonnay. This is a fresh, soft style of Chardonnay with bright sweet citrus fruit character and subtle spice and oak nuances. We blend Chardonnay grapes from vineyards all over Washington's Columbia Valley to make this a complex, interesting wine. The sur lie aging gives it an appealing softness.

Pair with crab, poultry, salmon and scallops.

Additional wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle:

About Chateau Ste. Michelle:

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. In addition, the winery's Eroica Riesling, crafted from a partnership with German winemaker Ernst Loosen, has been named to Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" wines list for five consecutive years.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. This dedicated approach to winemaking allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.

Winemaker's Notes:

The Malbec grapes are sourced from two mountain vineyards, both planted more than 50 years ago. The grapes are hand-harvested into small lugs, hand-sorted, crushed and cold-macerated at the winery for four days. The wine is then fermented at controlled temperatures with native yeasts in stainless steel for 15 days and inoculated with the winery's own malolactic organisms. After this it is aged for eight months, partly in French barriques and partly in stainless steel. The end result is a wine with a rich bouquet, lively mouth-feel, lingering flavors of red and black berries with undertones of black pepper and vanilla, and a velvety texture throughout.

The fruit profile opens with fresh blackberries and black cherry, followed by ripe raspberry jam. More subtle aromas of currants, licorice, black pepper and spice. Entry on the palate is a burst of berries, followed by spices and ripe fruit sweetness. The mid-palate is smooth and round with elegant tannins and a lush finish. This Dry Creek offering shows that Zinfandel can be sophisticated and elegant and gains complexity with pairing. As such, excellent food pairings include roasted duck, veal, and grilled salmon as well as pastas and subtle-flavored cheeses.

Winemaker's Notes:

The Genesis Syrah is selected from specific vineyards to emphasize luscious fruit and depth of color. The 2006 vintage was exceptional; resulting in a wine with bright red cherry and raspberry aromas augmented by oak notes of cedar and cinnamon toast. On the palate, it is very fruity and is reminiscent of currants with a strawberry essence that lingers, along with a bit of cinnamon spice, charred mesquite, and cherry wood. The structure is subtle yet firm. Pair with stuffed manicotti in marinara sauce or pasta dishes served with a sweet or spicy red sauce.

PRICE ON 11/28/2014: $7.99

Winemaker's Notes:

The nose of this rich Cabernet-Shiraz blend announces the presence of classic Barossa Shiraz, with notes of blackberry, blueberry and cassis and a hint of dried sage. Cabernet Sauvignon is clearly present in the structure and complexity of this dense, full-bodied wine. Moderate oak doesn't detract from, but rather complements, the intense fruit flavors. This Cabernet-Shiraz is enjoyable now but will continue to develop in the bottle for several years. Pair this wine with hearty fare such as charcoal-grilled steak, roast leg of lamb with white bean puree and pasta with rich red sauce.

Blend: 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Shiraz

My Notes:

About Archetype:

Archetype wines are made from exceptional vineyards in the Barossa – Australia's renowned winegrowing region. The wines are produced at Chateau Yaldara, a landmark winery in the heart of the Barossa that was originally founded in1867, then re-built in 1965, by the joint winemaking team of Napa Valley's Bob Masyczek and Australia's Thomas Jung.

Located just north of Adelaide in Sotheast Australia, the Barossa is a popular tourist destination. It was discovered a century and a half ago by German and English settlers as having excellent soil and climate conditions for growing wine grapes.

World-renowned for its big, blockbuster Shiraz wines, the Barossa is Australia's equivalent of the Napa Valley in terms of prestige and name recognition. It is also home to some of the highest-rated Australian wineries including Henshke, Penfolds, and Yalumba. A small area about the size of Napa Valley, its major towns are Lyndoch and Tanunda.
