Winemaker's Notes:

Unlike some of its Borsao stablemates, this bottling isn't gushing with fruit in the nose, but it has something more: balance. Black cherries and blueberries coincide with gentle vanilla and toast, and mineral and rock elements finish the wine, along with a whisp of citrusy crispness. Drink now or in the next several years.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Borsao:

About Borsao:

Founded in 1958 in the town of Borja, called Borsao in the 4th century B.C., this winery represents what can be done with Garnacha, a grape that is not well appreciated by the Spanish press. Through meticulous selection, work in the fields and at reception time in the winery, modern winemaking produces this highly fruity wine. One of the best examples of the region known as "The Garnacha land of Spain", the lower part of the Ebro River.

Winemaker's Notes:

A sexy pink color with lively hues. The nose combines aromas of ripe blood-orange, cherry-drops and black currant cordial with fragrant sandalwood whiffs. The gorgeously weighted palate balances juicy fruit flavours with racy acidity and finishes on a pleasantly persistant, zesty note.

Serve well chilled. An excellent aperitif or picnic wine. The ideal summer salad wine. Serve with fresh, seared tuna steaks; veal limone; poached salmon; asparagus quiche; cold crayfish salad; vegetable spring rolls dipped in soy sauce; ideal with sushi and other Japanese delights.

Additional wines from Indaba:

About Indaba:

The Indaba brand was first launched in the US in 1996, shortly after South Africa transitioned to a democratic republic. "Indaba" is the Zulu word for "a meeting of the minds," or a traditional gathering of tribal leaders for sharing ideas. The brand was created as a celebration of the democratization process in South Africa, and from its inception the wines have conveyed the spirit of South Africa to American consumers.

The Indaba range is carefully selected from emerging regions of the Cape winelands such as Robertson, Wellington, and the Breede River Valley. Production is overseen by Bruwer Raats, celebrated winemaker of Raats Family Wines and long-term consultant for Indaba. All are bottled under user-friendly screwcap closures with environmentally friendly packaging. In addition to garnering regular "Best Buy" nods from Wine Enthusiast, Indaba has earned extensive praise in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, which described the wines as "truly mind-boggling values" for the past two consecutive vintages.

A commitment to social responsibility has always been a key part of the Indaba philosophy. A portion of the proceeds from the brand’s global sales funds a scholarship program that supports wine-related studies for students from formerly disenfranchised communities in South Africa. Through growth of the brand and via the affiliated scholarship, Indaba is proud to be a part of the positive changes that are altering the face of South Africa’s wine industry.

Tio Pepe Fino Sherry is a star bright, pale golden color. It is elegant and distinctive, with fresh bread and almond aromas. The palate is full bodied, crisp and very dry, with a complex, long finish.

Perfect with canapes and tapas, Asian food, seafood and all fish based dishes. Try it with caviar, oysters, anchovies or tuna carpaccio.

My Notes:

About Tio Pepe:

Tio Pepe. Spain’s iconic sherry. All Tio Pepe vineyards are situated in "Jerez Superior," recognized as the best area of the D.O. The area is known for its white albariza soil which contains up to 60% chalk and has a large capacity for retaining moisture. All grapes are hand harvested, carefully vinified and masterfully blended by Winemaker/Master Blender Antonio Flores who, like his father before him, personally checks every barrel at least once every three months.

Winemaker's Notes:

This unique and trailblazing marriage of two of our favorite white varietals was a happy blending trial accident that we deliberately refined over time. Multi-vintage. The Viognier gives a lift to the wine's fruit aromatics. Platinum gold color with concentrated aromas of honeysuckle and stone fruit. Nectarine flavors with citrus highlights, a hint of butterscotch, and candied fruit accent the palate of this mouthcoating wine.

This medium-bodied, approachable wine compliments salads, Chinese food, seafood, shellfish, and chicken dishes. Perfect for every occassion.

Blend: 86% Napa Sauvignon Blanc, 14% Sonoma Viognier, 100% Unique

My Notes:

About White Wedding:

Bravium translates from Latin as "reward, prize, or gift" and sums up Proprietor and Winemaker Derek Rohlffs’ feelings about wine – namely that it is a reward for their labors, a prized part of mealtime, and a gift to be shared. Derek's winemaking philosophy is an extension of his Environmental Studies background and belief that great wine begins in the vineyard. Bravium utilizes minimalist winemaking practices and its wines are balanced and food-friendly. One of Derek's music heroes, Jack White, has said: "Technology is the disease you have to fight in any creative field…ease of use [is the enemy]." And while winemaking is part art and part science, Bravium emphasizes traditional methods whenever possible. Bravium was created to give back to charitable organizations by way of its Sip&Give donation platform.

60% Pinot Nior, 40% Trepat

Beautiful scents of raspberry and cherry on the nose with fresh, clean strawberry and cherry flavors in the mouth and a consistent bead. The finish is clean and crisp and invites another sip.

Cristalino Brut Rose Cava is an excellent match for fried appetizers such as calamari or light desserts such as creme brulee. It is also excellent on its own or with fresh fruit.

Did you get a bottle with a gold label rather than this white label? No worries, it's still the same great Cava. Cristalino is undergoing a label change and released some bottles with the original packaging and some with the white label packaging.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Jaume Serra Cristalino:

About Jaume Serra Cristalino:

The winery behind Cristalino, Jaume Serra, was founded in 1943 by distinguished enologist Jaume Serra Guell. It is located in the Garraf subdivision of the Denominacion de Origen Penedés, the largest wine growing area in Catalonia. Jaume Serra lies within the “El Padruel” estate in the Mediterranean Coastal town of Vilanova y la Geltru, some 50 kilometers south of Barcelona,. Wine making began on this property in 1947. The winery underwent renovations in 1984 and then again in 1997, after the J. García Carrión family purchased the property.

The white varietals of Parellada, Chardonnay, Macabeo and Xarel-lo are grown in Jaume Serra's vineyards situated in the Alt Penedés, a sub region of the Penedés, and are used to produce the area's famous sparkling wines, called "Cava". By law, Cava must be made in the Methode Champenois or Champagne Method. Due to European regulations prohibiting use of that term, Cava is now labeled as Methode Tradicional, which has the same requirements with an added stipulation that cava must age for a minimum of nine months on the lees before release. After researching local yeasts, the Jaume Serra winery has taken the extraordinary step of importing their yeast from Champagne, France in order to impart the finest quality to their Cavas.

Brut is a cuvée of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo grapes grown in the renowned Penedès region of Spain. The wine is vinified according to méthode champenoise technique and is aged in the bottle for up to 2 years.

This fine cuvée is fairly crisp with an interesting floral note and mouth-pleasing sensation of creaminess.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Segura Viudas:

About Segura Viudas:

Segura Viudas was established in 1954 in the heart of Spain's Penedes region, one of the world's best sites for growing and producing grapes for production of sparkling wine. My Notes:

Additional wines from Pierre Sparr:

About Pierre Sparr:

The Pierre Sparr estate was created by one of the oldest and most prestigious wine producing families in France's Alsace region, established since 1680. It produces an award-winning and diverse range of 32 different red, white, still, sparkling, dry and sweet wines and owns 80 acres of vineyards spread across five different Grand Crus – Brand, Mambourg, Schlossberg, Schoenenbourg and Sporen. Any additional grapes are purchased under strict quality control with other growers, for which Sparr pays a premium. In July 2007, passionate Alsatian winemaker Vincent Laillier was brought in to revolutionize winemaking at Sparr from vineyard practices through to bottling processes. Typical of the region, Sparr wines are rich in fruit and firmly structured. With a belief that mature wines are more exciting, the winery will regularly hold back top wines from the market until they are at their optimal drinking window.

Additional wines from Big House:

About Big House:

The Big House wines were born of the notion that the California climate is quite hospitable to the rollicking, sun loving grapes of Mediterranean France, Italy and Spain. Big House has found that by blending, rather than relying upon a single variety, they can create far more complex, rich wines that elegantly match a very wide variety of cuisine, from pizza, to BBQ ribs to roast chicken.

Winemaker's Notes:

Hungary's wine regions tend to be in cooler climates, therefore it's a perfect place for Pinot. Its best growing regions are situated with southern exposures to maximize ripening potential. Our inaugural Octavin Pinot Noir is crafted from grapes grown in Sopron, in the foothills of the Alps, next to Austria's Burgenland wine region, and from Balatonboglari, a popular local wine region also referred to as Hungary's "Riviera". These up-and-coming wine regions have a long viticulture heritage that is still being rediscovered following Hugary's emergence from Communist rule in the late 1980s. Utilizing traditional techniques like cold fermentation that maximize color and and barrel aging in Hungary's unique Aszok Hungarian oak barrels to optimize fruit intensity, the wines present with earthy red current and black cherry aromas. It's a medium-bodied red wine with notes of cranberry and rhubarb, with a lingering, creamy finish.

About the Octavin
Octavin Home Wine Bar's patent-pending package design prevents oxidation. Every glass tastes as fresh and flavorful as if the wine was just opened, even up to six weeks after your first sip. It's the perfect choice for those interested in just one glass with dinner.

Octavin Home Wine Bar's innovative design allows us to invest in making great wine, not expensive packaging. By eliminating heavy glass and expensive cork and closures, we reduce the cost of packaging and shipping, and pass on those savings to you. While each Octavin contains the equivalent of four standard bottles of distinctive artisan wine, you often end up paying the price of just three bottles.

So go ahead and break the glass habit--and mother nature just might thank you for it. By choosing Octavin Home Wine Bar over four carbon-inefficient heavy glass bottles, you reduce packaging waste by at least 85% and carbon emissions by 55%.

My Notes:

About Pinot Evil:

Pinot Evil's artisan winemaking team shares a passion for Pinot in all forms. Julian Halasz has a distinctive advantage in making these Hungarian wines having been born and raised in Budapest, a descendent of a Hungarian winemaking family. He officially came to California to study enology after working at his uncle's and other smaller Hungarian wineries learning all about Hungary's microclimates and the old world winemaking practices still widely employed there. He interned at several Livermore, CA wineries as well to learn the best of New World techniques. Heis now one of the lead winemakers for Concannon, and he also partners with Mario to craft Pinot Evil. Now a veteran California winemaker, Mario Pulido, was first inspired to become a winemaker after an extended trip throughout Europe in the 1970s. Inspired by its old world wine and food culture, Mario loves to craft both Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir given their food-friendly natures. "I enjoy Pinot Grigio's versatility and the challenges that Pinot Noir present a winemaker, especially with finding the balance between the wine's texture and fruit components." Julian shares this sentiment about his two favorite Pinots. He feels fortunate that with Pinot Evil's Hungarian ties, he can return so closely to his roots, "Winemaking is in my blood. I have grown up around wine, and one day I just realized how much I loved the artistic aspects of it."
