Winemaker's Notes:

Chateau Reynon has a deep color and subdued aromas with licorice black-currant and smoky nuances; the flavors are velvety, elegant and powerful. They have an exceptional style that privileges the freshness of the fruit concentrated by the "noble rot", strength, balance and subtlety of the flavors.

Winemaker's Notes:

A vermillion hue and an intense fragrance of blueberry and blackberry. Elegant in mouth, the wine has a fruity structure and mellow tannins. A complex wine that is nicely structured, and well balanced.

A perfect accompaniment for all meats and game and ripened cheese.

My Notes:

About Chateau Carignan:

The estate lies over 150 hectares, 65 of which are planted with vines. The vines lie on south facing clayey-limestone hillsides covered with stony gravel. 30% of the vineyard is over 40 years old and 70% between 8 and 25 years old. The grape varieties planted are 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Chateau Carignan is located at Carignan de Bordeaux, 10km to the east of Bordeaux. The dominant grape variety, as for the other right bank Appellations (Saint Emilion and Pomerol), is Merlot. This variety is in its element on the clayey limestone hillsides and offers supple, well-rounded and highly fruity wines. The Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux AOC (Appellation d'Origine Controlee) was defined by the French government in 1937 as an area of 3,400 hectares spread over 37 communes on the right bank of the river Garonne, forming a narrow strip of vineyards some 60km long and 5km wide from the north of Bordeaux to Langon. A great deal of technical progress has been made throughout the Côtes de Bordeaux and the wines' excellent value and quality have made them much sought after.

Vanilla and spice, ripe red apple and a touch of lees on the finish. Savory, complex and satisfying, a touch of minerality, tarragon and vanilla. Definitely a food wine. Pair this wine with roast chicken, crab cakes, salmon, halibut, lobster, grilled mushrooms, fava beans and buttered corn.

Additional wines from Iron Horse:

About Iron Horse:

A pioneer in the Green Valley appellation within the Russian River area of Sonoma County, the Iron Horse family is building a legacy of prestige sparkling wines and elegant estate-bottled Chardonnay and Pinot Noir within a "holistic" environment of natural balance, cultivation and love of the land.

Iron Horse is best known for its Sparkling Wines, which have been served at the White House since 1985, beginning with the historic U.S.-Russian Summit Meetings ending the Cold War, at the White House Millennium celebrations ushering in the new century, and at the White House dinner honoring the Pope.

Their Chardonnay is considered a signature wine for the cool, foggy Green Valley region. Pinot Noir is the winery's rising star wine.

Iron Horse has been named an American icon in a reference book published by Random House called "Icons of the American Market Place". Listed in alphabetical order, Iron Horse takes its place between iPod and Jack Daniel’s, validating Iron Horse’s reputation as a brand backed by pride, passion and quality.

The Iron Horse name came from a train that cut across the property in the 1890s. The logo, the rampant horse on a weather vane, came from a 19th century weathervane found while clearing away the rubble to build the winery.

Winemaker's Notes:

The Louis M. Martini 2010 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon was crafted from several of the county's most prestigious appellations in the Alexander Valley and the Dry Creek Valley. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were blended seamlessly to bring together the unique characteristics of each vineyard, creating a superbly balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine has fresh red plum and blackberry jam aromas and flavors that are supported by caramelized and toasted oak notes. The round, full mouthfeel has just enough structure to lead into a fruit-focused finish.

Additional wines from Mitolo:

About Mitolo:

In a short period of time Mitolo has become recognized as one of the finest producers in McLaren Vale. Mitolo is a family owned business, started by and led by the founder and owner Frank Mitolo's vision to create a range of wines of individuality, integrity and utmost quality. Whether it is in the vineyard, or in the winery, or the work of the different coopers who source and shape the diverse barrels which are used at Mitolo, each wine is nurtured and developed with a zealous passion that spares no effort to ensure that the best of everything is brought together to make wines of purity, elegance and power.

Italian family roots inspired Frank's early interest and enthusiasm for good food and great wine. With three earlier generations of his family working as agriculturists and entrepreneurs, it is not surprising that (while heading an international horticultural business), Frank found the energy and passion to pursue his dream of creating world-class wines. The business was established in 1999 and a year later the first Mitolo wine was launched. It was called G.A.M.; named after Frank’s three children and the next generation of Mitolo’s, Gemma, Alexander and Marco.

Acclaimed winemaker Ben Glaetzer is a partner in the business and the combination of his winemaking skills and Frank’s vision have led Mitolo to international recognition and acclaim. What started out as a dream is becoming an exciting reality, and Mitolo Wines has only just begun on its journey.

The 2009 Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon offers up-front aromas of ripe red fruit, followed by similar vibrant and rich berry flavors. Silky but firm tannins lend excellent structure, while maintaining a soft approachability reflective of Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has a ripe finish with good length. Its fruit-driven style lends ease to food-pairing.

Additional wines from Liberty School:

About Liberty School:

Varietally on target, reliable year after year, Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cuvee consistently over-deliver value wines of outstanding quality. The Hope family has been making Liberty School Cabernet Sauvignon since 1990. In 1996, when the Hopes established Treana Winery, the Liberty School brand officially became part of Hope Family Wines. Liberty School wines are made in a traditional style. Fruit driven, they are crafted to reflect true varietal character. The wines are barrel-aged, employing very little new oak. Ruby red with violet hues. The impact of the aromas is intense and fascinating. The bouquet is complex, initially characterized by intense notes of mature fruit, such as cherries, plums and small black berries, which then fade into hints of spices, mint, sweet tobacco and refined balsamic notes on the finish. On the palate it is full-bodied and harmonious and characterized by the finesse of its silky tannins. The taste is elevated by a remarkable pleasantness and freshness and a texture in which each varietal adds its own distinctive trait. The finish is incredibly persistent, with an aftertaste of black berry fruit and cocoa.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Ruffino:

About Ruffino:

In 1877, Illario and Leopoldo Ruffino laid the foundations of their dream to make the most known and loved Italian wines in the world from the heart of Tuscany. At their winery in Pontassieve, just outside of Florence, they began producing wines according to a strict quality standard and a rigorous technical research. Soon, Ruffino became an international symbol of the Chianti region, and won numerous awards, including the prestigious gold medal at the Bordeaux Wine Fair in 1895, affirming the quality of its wine.

In 1913, the Folonari family purchased Ruffino and brought new talent, energy and enthusiasm into the company. They started on a nearly century-long pursuit to develop a collection of estates in Tuscany, all of which matched the standard of quality and uniqueness which was the trademark of Ruffino wine.

Over the last sixty years, Ruffino has established seven prominent estates in Tuscany, all situated within the major DOCG production regions including Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Chianti and Chianti Classico. Today, Ruffino continues to meld century-long Tuscan traditions with new state-of-the-art cellar technology and modern winemaking for an ideal symbiosis with the energy of the contemporary Italian lifestyle.

Chateau du Gaby wines are known for their finesse, concentration and excellent balance of acidity and tannin. While the wines age beautifully over 5-20 years, for those without the patience to wait, they typically begin to show their great charm after 3-4 years.
My Notes:

About Chateau du Gaby:

Chateau du Gaby is a stunning, historic chateau perched on top of a sloping limestone plateau and facing south over the river Dordogne. The chateau is surrounded by its own park and 16 hectares of rolling vineyards where low wooded hills and the lazy meanderings of the Dordogne meet. Lovingly restored, the interior of the chateau reflects the beauty of Bordeaux's prettiest countryside in which it is located.
