Winemaker's Notes:

The dense, rich color indicates the power and intensity of fruit, with complexity and elegance the truly distinguishing characters of this wine. Bright blackberry, maraschino cherry and satsuma plum aromas are enriched with anise, liquorice and subtle roasted spice from ageing in French oak. Succulent texture and supple tannins extend throughout the palate, and red liquorice flavors provide a long, distinctive finish.

Fruit for the Victorian Shiraz is sourced from several cool climate regions including the Yarra Valley, Heathcote and Bendigo with each region providing complexity to the blend. Yarra Valley Shiraz grown on sedimentary soils around our own Green Point vineyard is typically fragrant and spicy. Heathcote Shiraz grown on the deep red soils of the Mt Camel Range is bright and deeply colored with fresh blackberry flavors. Bendigo Shiraz grown on alluvial soils contributes savory tannins with hints of eucalypt and the inland climate of the northern foothills of the Great Dividing Range provides Shiraz with rich structure and weight.

My Notes:

About Green Point:

In the 1840s, when the Yarra Valley in Victoria was first settled by Europeans, they observed that one particular spur of land leading down to the Yarra river always remained green longer as summer advanced. They called it "Green Point." It stayed green because the deep weathered siltstone soils on this spur retain moisture longer than other areas in the valley. These soils, in combination with the Yarra Valley's cool climate, proved to be an ideal "terroir" for grape growing and grapes have been grown on these slopes since the 1850s.

Moët & Chandon acquired the site in 1986 and today it is where they grow high quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for Green Point still wines. They have selected other sites in Victoria and the Yarra Valley that provide the ideal marriage of "terroir" with variety for the other Green Point varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz).

screw cap wine

PRICE ON 7/23/2014: $7.99

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2003 Adams Road Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is produced from the best parcels of fruit from our Adams Road vineyard in the warmer northern part of the Margaret River wine region.

The 2003 vintage was warmer and drier than average, resulting in a wine that shows ripe and plump blackberry fruits on the nose. There is a dusty savory earthiness typical of Margaret River and some hints of dried mint leaves.

The palate is juicy with sweet and savory components combining nicely with spritely acidity and fine grained tannins lengthening the finish. Flavors of blackcurrant and red currant combine well with the French oak providing complexity and structure to the wine.

This is wine that is ready to drink now or cellar for 3 – 4 years for maximum enjoyment.

My Notes:

Winemaker's Notes:

My goal with the Columbia Valley Chardonnay is to make it a pleasurable, food-friendly Chardonnay. This is a fresh, soft style of Chardonnay with bright sweet citrus fruit character and subtle spice and oak nuances. We blend Chardonnay grapes from vineyards all over Washington's Columbia Valley to make this a complex, interesting wine. The sur lie aging gives it an appealing softness.

Pair with crab, poultry, salmon and scallops.

My Notes:

Additional wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle:

About Chateau Ste. Michelle:

Founded in 1934, Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley. The winery combines Old World winemaking with New World innovation and is best known for its award-winning Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Ste. Michelle receives some of the highest accolades in the industry, including "American Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast for 2004 and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. In addition, the winery's Eroica Riesling, crafted from a partnership with German winemaker Ernst Loosen, has been named to Wine Spectator's prestigious "Top 100" wines list for five consecutive years.

Chateau Ste. Michelle is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and another to reds. This dedicated approach to winemaking allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to build winemaking programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle's vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bob Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, 15 miles northeast of Seattle. The winery's expansive, 87-acre estate hosts more than 250,000 visitors annually for tours, tastings, dinners and outdoor summer concerts.

Winemaker's Notes:

Pale straw in color with green hues, the aromas of this wine are fresh and appealing, with citrus spice and lovely floral notes. The palate is an alluring mouthful of flavors, combining citrus, spice and lychee characters balanced by a crisp, juicy acidity and lingering finish.

The 2008 Magnus Riesling displays all the hallmarks of fine Clare Valley Riesling; juicy acidity, lemon citrus and fullness of flavor. Drink now to enjoy its full fresh flavor or cellar in the medium term to enjoy some additional toasty complexity.

My Notes:

About Leasingham:

Originally there were four pioneers : J.H. (Joseph) Knappstein, a merchant, Dr O. Wein-Smith, a medical practitioner of Clare, Magnus Badger, a solicitor, and John Cristion, who was a brewer of note. Alfred Basedow was employed as a General Manager and Winemaker, having learned the craft of winemaking in Europe. The name Stanley was chosen to identify the company with the local electoral district of Stanley. By 1912, Joseph Knappstein, one of the most enterprising men of his time in South Australia, had bought out the interests of the other three founders and gained control of the company.

The Leasingham winery was acquired by The Hardy Wine Company in January 1988, when a major upgrade of vineyards, winery, tourism and promotional facilities was begun. Subsequently that year the Clarevale Co-operative was integrated giving access to further premium fruit. Today the name Leasingham is reserved for premium wines only. The Stanley name continues on a range of wine casks produced at the Buronga winery

Winemaker's Notes:

Head-trained and dry farmed vines continue to be the source for Bogle's Old Vine Zinfandel. These gnarly old vines produce concentrated fruit of unsurpassed quality and intensity. This full-bodied vintage shows itself with rich black raspberry notes that round out in the mouth, accompanied by the scents of summer fruit jam bubbling on the stove. Juniper berry and cinnamon stick join the spiciness of red and black peppercorns as they integrate with the supple fruit and lead toward the finish. Toasty oak and cloves are the perfect finishing touch.
My Notes:

Additional wines from Bogle Vineyards:

About Bogle Vineyards:

Although the Bogle family has been farming since the 1800's, it wasn't until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, California. Clarksburg is a small farming community nestled in the Sacramento Delta. Today Bogle Vineyards farms over 1,000 acres of wine grapes in the Delta region. While the winery was established ten years after the first grapes were planted, it has grown tremendously along with the vineyards. Bogle Winery is currently producing 100,000 cases of wine. Winemaker Christopher Smith joined the winery in 1992. He sources fruit from some of the best vineyards throughout the State of California and blends that fruit with the best grapes from our Estate Vineyards in Clarksburg.

A beautifully pure and lively wine overflowing with aromas of ripe gooseberry and passionfruit with hints of grapefruit, lime and nettle. The wine is concentrated and juicy with vibrant fruit and fantastic mid-palate weight, finishing with crisp acidity. Enjoy now and until 2013.

Additional wines from Villa Maria:

About Villa Maria:

In 1960, George Fistonich, the son of a Croatian immigrant, founded Villa Maria in Mangere, Auckland. Voted New Zealand's Winemaker of the Year in 1993, George is today the managing director of the Villa Maria Group, which also includes Vidal and Esk Valley Wineries, together forming the third largest wine company in New Zealand.

Winemaker Michelle Richardson has been with Villa Maria since 1992. She has travelled extensively throughout Europe and Australia and in 1991 assisted flying winemaker Hugh Ryman with the French vintage. In 1997, Michelle, like George Fistonich, was voted New Zealand's Winemaker of the Year. Her 1996 wines have taken Villa Maria to new peaks in quality. Michelle is a graduate of the highly regarded Roseworthy College in Australia. She heads the Villa Maria winemaking team.

This team of dedicated vintners has placed its emphasis on high quality and good value. Grapes are either estate-grown or carefully sourced, and the winery was the first in New Zealand to initiate payment for grapes by quality. Villa Maria has won awards for its wines in competitions across New Zealand and Australia and has been honored for its high standards of customer service and environmental responsibility.

Winemaker's Notes:

Koonunga Hill is very much a reflection of the Penfolds winemaking style and philosophy. Since the first vintage of 1976 of Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet, the brands reputation has been built on widespread acclaim.

Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet, a multi-district blend based on Barossa, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra fruit, has become a Penfolds classic with a reputation for over-delivery of quality at its pricepoint.

Additional wines from Penfolds Wines:
