Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The fruit was gently crushed in rubber-toothed Demoisy crushers then transferred to headed-down open fermenters, with a small amount of the Shiraz fruit undergoing carbonic maceration. The lifted nose emits floral notes of violet and lavender with savory meatiness and spicy red fruits. A velvety palate with raspberry and boysenberry fruits builds to a back palate of subtle spice and cracked black pepper. The silky tannins and a cinnamon notes provide for a long, refined finish.

Critical Acclaim

"A classic blend, showing the roots of its consistency, even in a challenging vintage; the bouquet straddles the line of fresh red fruits and savoury Provençal herbs beautifully; the palate is generous and soft, with an underlying structure providing freshness and contrast to the sweet fruit. Screwcap."
92 Points

"Ruby-red. A strikingly fresh and complex bouquet displays scents of raspberry, blackberry, fresh rose, lavender and Asian spices. Racy acidity gives a tangy quality to the black raspberry and floral pastille flavors, which are impressively pure and focused. Silky tannins add grip to the long, sweet, palate-staining finish. As in most vintages, this is an outstanding value."

Style: Smooth & Supple
On the nose, fruity and pleasant. On the palate, smooth and delicious. Even with 14.5% alcohol, it's not overpowering at all. Quite pleasant, very easy to sip, overall just a lovely glass of a medium-bodied, medium-rich wine.

Notable Facts In McLaren Vale, there are vines as far as the eye can see. As in other parts of...

Learn About Rhone Red Blends

Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
