The Shiraz offers dark plum fruits, mulberries and licorice with plenty of concentration, depth and velvety tannin.
The Grenache adds a lovely lusciousness to the wine with raspberry, blueberry and floral notes adding prettiness. Both of the afore mentioned varieties also give a little white pepper character which has been accentuated in the cooler vintage and really acts as a point of interest.
Finally, the Mourvedre provides a perception of elegance and restraint through its lovely line of lovely red fruits with a hint of dried herb and importantly, a fine chalky tannin that carries all these characters to a long and wonderfully moreish finish.

McLaren Vale is home to the oldest Australian vineyard, with grapes planted in 1838. It's a coastal area with the Indian Ocean bordering the west, which contributes a cooling factor that prevents the grapes from getting too hot. In all, the climate is a perfect one for the vines.
Notable FactsIn McLaren Vale, there are vines as far as the eye can see. As in other parts of Australia, Shiraz and Grenache are the most-planted grapes of the region. While red rules, whites are able to hold their own here too. With the warm yet reasonable Mediterranean climate, white grapes like Chardonnay, Semillon and even some Sauvignon Blanc grow well. The wines are round and smooth and the producers in the region are excellent.

Mine was served chilled--it was very refreshing as it was over 110 F in Phoenix that day. Earthy and spicy, quite refreshing. This is the first wine I have ordered on wine.com that I truly hated! Tasted of rancid pine needles, raw essential oils. Screwcap top, so how could it be corked ? Concentrated and tarry, just strange. Maybe I have a limited palate? Definitely "earthy" in the worst way. I thought maybe my palate was off, tried again after a few hours still undrinkable.
