I received this Malbec in a Discovery Wine Club Selection for the month of January (Wines.com) Now on to the 4 S's - (see) dark opaque red color (sniff) faint fruit aromas, mostly cherry (sip) muted and dull fruit flavors of cherry and prunes with some spice box. Dry and alcoholic feel with a full body and a furry (dried out) mouth feel. (summarize) I didn't care for this Malbec. After first glass I wasn't looking forward to having a second. With so many good Malbec's available, I won't be re-ordering more of this one. Overall a bit disappointing.
1/19/2008 I rate this 90 points: Enjoyed this wine, we did a comparison between 3 Australia Shiraz and agreed that this was the best of the three. (the other two were MAK and Green Point) Serving Temp was 61 - Dark Red with Purple overtones, pronounced legs, medium aroma of blackberry and plum with some Oak. Wonderful fresh black fruit flavors, with some cinnamon, spice and black pepper. Long finish with oak, vanilla and earth flavors. Very Balanced with moderate complexity, strong structure, but has smooth tannins. Aged 12 months in French Oak. This wine has 14% alcohol, however I saw other references of 14.5 and 14.7, but our bottle said 14%. Have one more bottle and will buy some more. Listed as "smart buy" with WS. . . Cheers!
Interesting, unique and enjoyable are the first adjectives that come to mind. Tangerine, pear and citrus flavors upfront with a slight sweetness on the back side. Herbal element typical of the Sauvignon Blanc grape that makes up part of this white blend. Long finish, good acidity, dry, very enjoyable. Bought more
Great Wine - Loved it. A blast of fruit up front, great structure, minerals and some anise on the back-side. Powerful, but very drinkable and balanced. Long. . . Long finish - rich and lush in the mouth. Sorry I only bought two.
This Cab was good for the price paid - fresh fruit, but flavors never really expanded - med to short finish, firm tannins, slight (have to look for it) Chocolate in the finish. Wouldn't have paid release retail, but got six bottles at sale/reduction, and enjoyed the first bottle and will hold the remaining to revisit in another year.
Received the MAK as a Wine.com Discovery Wine Club Selection for December 2007. Deep Red Color with twinge of Purple. Fresh plum and blackberry aromas. Wonderful concentrated fruit flavors of plum and blackberry and black cherry with favorable spice and hint of pepper. Full bodied with tame tannins and very balanced and gentle acidity. Some Oak and enough complexity to make interesting. Reasonable finish and a great value - I liked it. Overall the vintage guide shows the 2003 was better than prior four years for this valley, but not as good as the 2005. Going to buy some more.
Received as a Wine.com Discovery Wine Club Selection for JAN 08. Up front fresh flavors of citrus and green apple with some stone in the background. No Oak or maloactic fermentation which makes for a very fresh taste and balanced acidity. Medium/light body, dry, and leaning on the delicate side for intensity. Limey on the finish - overall fresh and bright, but without any complexity.
I received this as a Wine.com Discovery Wine Club Selection for December 2007. Pale yellow color, delicate and dry with a light body and gentle acidity. Fresh grapefruit and lime predominate with a hint of nut. Refreshing, but average at best - won't buy anymore.
Tasted 12-14-07 at home - serving temp 53f - Light, fresh fruit with pronounced lemon and fresh apple flavors. Zesty and refreshing, background of vanilla and gardenia - medium finish, smooth and fresh, pale straw yellow color, clear and bright.
